Photos and Description of the Galatina vacation house rental
Sleeps 2 to 8, prices according, near Ionian and Adriatic white beaches

Comfortably accomodating two to nine people, this spacious 5-bedroom art-deco styled town house was originally part of a 16th Century library and has since been renovated to an extremely high standard by award winning 'Puglia Estates' as seen on Grand Designs. The apartment spans back from a grand entrance and stair-case to reveal room upon room of living space. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with 5-burner gas stove, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer However, the real heart of the cooking/eating area is the original kitchen where once wood burning stoves were located and which leads out onto a beautiful dining terrace for enjoying breakfast or an evening bottle of wine al-fresco. The townhouse consists of a large lounge, 4 double bedrooms (two en-suite) mean you don't have to struggle with sofa-beds and a large spectacular roof terrace combined with two further private terraces allow a variety of sunbathing options. The apartment has aircon in smaller rooms.

Additional information: As with many old properties in Italy, there are lots of steep marble stairs between floors (the ceilings are very high and the house spans over 3 floors), and very high roof terraces with waist high walls. As a result, the apartment may be unsuitable for people of reduced/impaired mobility or young children (under 10). It is the guests' responsibility to ensure the safety of their children. Having said this, the apartment is full of character and original features, and the high terraces afford spectacular views of Galatina and the surrounding area. Smokers are welcome, but we do request that guests only smoke outdoors on the roof terraces.

Foodpacks and local knowledge: You will be met at the house with the keys and shown around by someone who has lived in the area for a few years. This allows us to impart some very local knowledge such as the best places to eat, or the nicest beach to get your suntan. We are also able to provide you with a food pack should you arrive late and just want to settle in without having to find supermarkets open. If you would like a little something special, such as a nice fizzy prosecco, we can accommodate any request.

A very nice surprise

A beautiful, quirky house. It really was just like home. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Cristiano was very charming and helpful.
Given the date of our visit, parking was never a problem. Galatina has some excellent restaurants and we found the people so very friendly and helpful. It is perfect for exploring the many other towns and villages where the architecture and history is so fascinating.
We would return to this house in order to discover more about this part of Italy.
Owner's Response: Thank you very much! You will be always welcome back, and there is so much to discover!

Stunning, Spacious House

We were really bowled over when we first looked around the apartment which exceeded expectations. It is extremely spacious - we only had 4 people in it but could have comfortably had 5 more.

It is well furnished and decorated and we had a really comfortable stay in Galetina. One of the perks was the projector which we used to watch a couple of old movies on the terrace during the warm evenings.

The apartment is well located in the town with easy access to the surrounding restaurants and shops . Galetina itself offered a choice of coastlines although we favoured the Adriatic side where the beaches were a little more rugged.

All in all the apartment was the perfect location to explore the surrounding area and was cool and comfortable when we opted to stay nearby. Thank you!

Beautiful appartment in a superb place

Appartment is very confortable and the deco is creating a very good atmospher. Very well equiped. If you have kids below 3 years old, close the doors because there are some stairs. The appartment is very well situated in Galatina. We spend some time in Otranto, Lecce, Gallipoli, Santa Maria del Bagna, Porto Cesaro, ... never more than 30'-40' time to reach these places (of course, a car is needed). Lot of good restaurant in Galatina. We will go back I hope.

Perfect holiday

We spent 10 days at the lovely villa in Galatina, and didn't want to leave!
The house is beautiful, and in a great central location. Although there are a number of good restaurants in the town, and surrounding villages, we really enjoyed eating in on one of the two lovely terraces.
There is so much to do and see in Puglia, and every beach we visited was different, and charming. There is something for everyone wether it be flat sandy beaches, or rugged natural rock pools.
It's by far the best place for food that we have ever visited.

The house is very tastefully done, and a few days into your holiday, you really feel like you live there.
We will be definitely be coming back again next year!

Although it is now a couple of weeks since we left Galatina, I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay, even though the weather was a bit mixed, resulting in us perhaps not seeing this part of Puglia at its best.

The apartment is wonderful. Our only problem was that it took a little while for us each to decide which bedrooms to occupy! I see that you have refreshed the photographs on the website - they certainly go some way (but not all of the way) to presenting it in its full glory. I would be interested sometime to learn a bit more about the history of the building and how the restoration scheme came about. Anyway, I trust we left the place in good order.

By the way, Cristiano deserves a special mention. Our demands on him were not great but he met us on time, gave us a comprehensive guided tour, and responded quickly when we asked for a bit of heating (and an iron). We were extremely lucky every day in finding a parking space in the piazza outside the apartment (it all seems to be down to timing!)

Galatina itself had everything we needed (and little of what we didn't need - hoards of tourists!). The top experiences for eating out were 'Lupo' and Borgo Antico. The absence of menus certainly stretched our Italian language skills to the absolute limit - perhaps more so at Borgo Antico because we had first to understand and then make choices! Zona Franca does great pizzas, but as my wife pointed out to me, I seemed to be the oldest customer (by a margin!). My son has an internet-based business, so it was great that he was only a couple of minutes away from the internet cafe, where he was treated as a regular by the end of the week.

Best wishes,

Bryan

Beautiful property which was well maintained and clean. Ideal for a group of friends although the mezzanine bedroom may not be to everyone's taste. David, the owner, though was up front about this so we knew what to expect.
Perfect location in the town and ideal for a getaway for those that like to get in the car and explore the local towns and beaches.
Large roof terrace equipped with a projector to create your own open-air cinema. Terrace would have benefitted from a few flowers though!
Excellent value.

my week in galatina

The property is newly restored to the highest standard The main bedroom and the guest room is with ensuite bathrooms. There are other showerrooms and toilet.
There is a wonderful terrace off the kitchen for drinks and meals and a wonderful patio where one can sunbathe play games or show films.
The property was clean and with daily help available
It is near enough to the sea. I visited various beaches of different types, one reminded me of the coast of cornwall.
There are restaurants on the beaches of a high standard especially the fish restaurants. In galatina itself there are various restaurants to suit all tastes, would suit families or adults.
There is a magificent church with original frescoes from the medaeval period of the town
The vegetable van comes round to the door and there is a supermarket quite close by..This is perfect for a family with guests who want separation from the rest of the group and it has lots of space. It is 40 minutes drive from Bari airport, I went by Ryan air but BA flies to Brindisi. You need to hire car at the airport or bring your own in order to explore the country side and the beaches. The nearest big town is Lecce but the nearbye towns are full of historical mementows like Otranto. I was an area very involved in the 2nd world war when the allies came up Itlay.I thouroughly enjoyed my week there but in August it is quite hot.
