Sonoma House Rental Photos and Description

Step into the spirit of Early California Sonoma by staying at Casa la Paloma – one of Sonoma’s historic homes from the mid 1800s. It has been carefully renovated for comfort, convenience, the maintenance of its historic character and has received awards from the Historic Society. Filled with old world charm of Spanish/Mexican California, it is located right downtown only a block from the Plaza. It’s unique location provides you with the comfortable feeling of being in a neighborhood and the fun of being only a short stroll from the life of the Plaza – walk to the Farmer’s Market, the best restaurants, the historic Sebastiani theater and endless wine tastings. You’ll be pleased you don’t have to drive home!

Casa La Paloma has a lovely spacious backyard with old fruit trees, flowers & a pond with a fountain. Here, you can bar-be-que, have a family party, entertain friends for supper or just relax.

The large Great Room, with it’s original Salt Box architecture, creates a wonderful space with antique Spanish furnishings and charmingly combines the kitchen, dining area with a table for 8 and the living room.

The kitchen has everything you could need for quick meals or a gourmet dinner party.

In the old Parlor/Library you can quietly read, watch TV, check your email or send the kids there to play board games.

Off the Great Room you’ll find the Master Bedroom with it’s beautiful eclectic antique furnishings including a queen wrought iron canopied bed, European armoire and French doors which open to the patio. The adjoining spacious Master Bath has been completely remodeled for comfort.

The seconded downstairs Bedroom is in the heart of the older part of the house. It has a queen brass bed and is romantic, cozy and charming. Here, the spirit of the building welcomes you warmly.

Upstairs, in the older part of the house, there are 2 more bedrooms.

Sunny and sweet, the room on the right has a touch of French antique décor, a full size bed and lots of closet space.

The bedroom on the left, also sunny and warm, has a full brass bed and a wrought iron single. Perhaps this is the best room for the children or a couple with a child.

There is no bathroom upstairs in this part of the old historic house.

Just downstairs off the kitchen, there is a second small newly remodeled bathroom with a corner shower which is shared with the downstairs bedroom.

The spaciousness, lovely garden and great location make Casa La Paloma a perfect location for special events – a place for the wedding friends and family to stay or even host the rehearsal dinner, host out of town guests who have come for a conference or workshop and would like to stay longer to tour the area etc.

Believe me, Casa La Paloma’s few historic eccentricities are well offset by it’s great location, charm, and it’s feeling of old Sonoma.

On returning to the U.S. after living in Europe for 5 years on a dime and teaching English, I found the small town of Sonoma and settled here while going to Sonoma State University to get my master’s degree and raise my daughters. Sonoma had all the feeling of being in Europe, especially Italy, with the climate and vineyards. My daughters could ride their ponies to town and tie them up in the Plaza in those days. While still teaching English as a Second language, I decided to open a Mexican import store in order to indulge my love of Mexico and traveling. Casa La Paloma had all the local history and Early California feeling I am so fond of. Recently, I have renovated the building with modern amenities and returned it into being a home with Colonial Spanish décor and Early California Sonoma ambiance.

Moona O'Toole purchased this house in 1985

The beauty of this property is in it's history. It was built as a home in the 1870s although it's adobe insulation in walls goes back to earlier times. It was the Bates family home in the 1800s.I have always maintained it's historic character and appreciated it's beautiful large yard. It is close to the Plaza but just enough away not to be too noisy and to have a neighborhood feeling. The best of both worlds.

It is a short walk 1 block to the Plaza but just enough away not to be too noisy and to have a neighborhood feeling. The best of both worlds. It is located on the East side of town with close access to the local original wineries and picnic areas. You can even ride your bikes. If you plan to go to the Napa Valley, just a couple of blocks more to the East and you are on your way without going through town traffic.

First off, Moona is an excellent hostess & decorater. Unlike may rentals you find, this home is filled with lovely furnishings. Second, the home is in an amazing location, right off the main square.
Our family had a wonderful time and couldn't have been more comfortable.

Charming comfy cozy house perfect for large groups

I rented this house for my sisters bachelorette party in early November. There were 7 adult women staying in the house and it was comfortable, cozy, and slept everyone quite well. We didn't rent a car, and the house was walking distance from everything in the town square. The backyard, hot tub, and kitchen were everything we could ask for, and the house was filled with charming character.
Moona was an absolute pleasure to work with, and checked in on us a few times throughout the weekend to ensure we were well taken care of. I will definitely be renting this place again when I return to Sonoma.

Anyone who is fortunate enough to stay at Casa la Paloma will come away with a deep appreciation for everything lovely that Moona tried to convey, to the smallest detail. Everything from linens, fresh flowers, completely stocked tuscan kitchen, and antiques rivals a 5* property. This historic home is perfect for a family reunion including children, couples or a girls getaway, This is a beautifully restored, pedigreed, restored home with attention to detail that is unparalleld in vacation homes.

The wedding party

My husband and I (along with three of our children, their others and three small grandchildren) rented this beautiful home for a week over the Fourth of July to celebrate the wedding of our son. It couldn't have been more perfect for us _ a fabulous great room and kitchen (plus a washer and dryer) and a gorgeous backyard with patio, fountains and even a "creek" for the grandkids to play in. The owner was lovely and very accommodating, and the location was absolutely terrific, a quick walk to the square, restaurants, shopping and the fireworks display on the Fourth! We recommend it highly, found it to be even better than described, and only hope we can come back soon!

Walk to Plaza yet still country

This charming home, away-from-home, is so warm and comfortable we settled in immediately. I loved having my morning coffee and danish (great bakery just a block away and open early) on the patio listening to the birds in the trees and surrounded by the spring flowers. We enjoyed being tourists to wine country with the boutique shops and outdoor wine tasting around the plaza and visiting nearby wineries. We even invited a few friends who live nearby to share an evening with us in the charming living room off the patio, and sipped wine together into the wee hours. During our 4 day stay we had a BBQ one night with some newly met friends also visiting wine country. I love this place and will come back with some friends next time.
