Sarah's Haven
Review Submitted: October 16, 2009

We woke on our first morning to beautiful blue skies, peaceful wooded landscape and the approaching sound of tinkling bells as a neighbouring shepherd guided his goats through the forest. Sarah greeted us as she brought our sumptuous breakfast to the poolside table. Each day brought new variations on breakfast - griddle scones, Welsh cakes, Spanish omelette, fresh fruit fool, fresh laid eggs - to supplement the fresh fruit salad, breads, home made jams.
Sarah was the perfect hostess - a gentle prescence - who was always sensitive to our needs, introducing us to the local community, taking us to visit places of interest and generally immersing us in the local culture (some of it quite colourful).
Speaking of immersion, we made good use of the lovely pool. I swam for the first time in years. My sister swam every day - good therapy for her arthritis.
There was lots of birdlife; we saw eagles, hoopoes, vultures, cattle egrets, as well as the small songbirds in the olive trees round the pool.
We walked in the forest with the heady smell of eucalyptus all around.
Best of all was getting to know Sarah, her partner Vladimir and lovely baby girl. The dog, Jem, the chickens and the pigs came a close second.
We are already planning our next visit.
