My name is Mike Hopkins. I am a retired school teacher, contractor, tour operator and zoo director.
Yes, zoo director. I built the zoo in my home town of Bakersfield, California. When I traveled the world looking for a perfect place to live that combined the best of a healthy lifestyle and a dedication to preserving nature, Costa Rica topped the list!
My wife, Irma is Costa Rican and we enjoy sharing this wonderful country with others, especially new-comers to the tropics. We invite you to come stay with us, and promise to do our best to make your vacation to Costa Rica a great one.
Actually I built the six condominiums here on Potrero Beach, called Twin Dolphins. We live in one of the the two Penthouses that occupy the third and fourth floors. We have two bedrooms on the third floor that we rent, with Breakfast included.
I actually drove from California to Costa Rica, visiting many of the beautiful cities and beaches in Mexico and all the Central American countries. When I got to Potrero Beach, Costa Rica I realized that I found the perfect spot, with beautiful beaches all around, jungle and mountains behind, parrots and monkeys everywhere, schools, restaurants, shopping and amenities close by.
Poterero is a safe and secure beach. It is ideal for swimming, snorkeling and taking fabulous beach walks in a quiet community setting.
If you want a loud, disco, late-night partying atmosphere, you are in the wrong place. Our guests like to relax and rejuvenate....with peaceful walks and beautiful sunsets. Our days come complete with laying in a hammock with gentle ocean breezes or taking a dip in our sparkling pool, or hiking and reconnecting with nature. I feel like I have added a year to my life for every year I have lived in Costa Rica. I moved permanently in 2001 and my only regret is that I did not do it sooner.

Very welcoming hospitality at a beautiful place
We loved to have breakfast on the beautiful balcony. Mike designed great treats, every morning we had something different, totally delicious. (If you stay there, ask Mike for French toast a la Lehmann).
Mike shared advice on where to eat and where to go and supported us planning excursions.
Potrero beach is a beautiful and relaxing setting.
We also recommend the gelato place and the coco loco restaurant. Ask Mike for directions.
