East Maui Escape in Paradise
We started our Hawaiian vacation in Kihei and were very pleased with the change found in Haiku. It was considerably cooler and had more sense of community. Amy and Eric were very welcoming and we were very appreciative of them for making accommodations for us to check out late, as our flight didn’t depart until past 10pm. It made the last day so much more enjoyable, especially since we were able to get our little one to nap. The property we were staying at before had a lot of road noise, so the sleep here was so peaceful. It was quiet and the crickets helped put us to sleep. We ate at Colleen’s several times, which was wonderful. The burgers are terrific. We also had a nice meal at Hana Hou. We really liked the atmosphere there. We went to the local grocery store several times and many people have complained about the prices, but coming from Alaska, it wasn’t a shock to us at all. We found the prices quite reasonable, except for maybe the milk, but the selections are limited. Kahalui is a short drive if you need to stock up on groceries. We really enjoyed Hookipa Beach and at high tide, my daughter loved playing in the tide pools. We were even able to watch the turtles here. The apartment was tastefully decorated and we felt a little cramped at first coming from a large condo but we quickly became quite comfortable here. It was a sad day to return home. We are already planning on returning to Haiku.
