Photos and Description of the Ancram vacation house rental
House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

This lovely 3 bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bath home sits high on 26 acres, with distant views of the Berkshires and Litchfield Hills. The house, located in the heart of New York's Hudson Valley, is the perfect place to get away from it all. Tranquil, serene beauty greets you everywhere you look. The living room has great light with sliding glass doors that open onto a spacious, sun-drenched teak deck. A small stream runs through the property.

Stroll the grounds or take long, leisurely walks on quiet country roads. Take meals on a cool, screened porch overlooking towering oaks and maples. On chilly nights, curl up with a good book in front of the fireplace. From spring through autumn, there is an herb garden just off the kitchen. Five minutes away, pick organic blueberries, raspberries and strawberries at the renowned Thompson-Finch Farm. Or shop for organic produce and grass-fed beef, pork and poultry at the acclaimed Herondale Farm, five miles from your door.

If you would like to venture farther afield, enjoy the shops, restaurants and galleries in Hudson and Great Barrington. You are close to the performing arts as well, with Tanglewood, Bard Summerscape and Music Festival with the American Symphony Orchestra all within 30 to 40 minutes away. In Hudson, Club Helsinki is the new destination for cutting edge modern music and performance art. If you enjoy dance, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival is about an hour's drive. There are other nearby destinations and activities too numerous to mention. The house is equipped with satellite TV (with HBO) and Wi-Fi.

The most unique feature of this home, however, is the peace and serenity you will experience from the moment you arrive. Its location near the end of a magical, sparsely settled country lane guarantees that the only sounds you will hear are those of nature.

Why Jon and Maureen chose Ancram

We love the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley and the artistic and cultural amenities it has to offer. We also found the seclusion and serenity of this property unique among the many properties we visited before choosing to make this our home.

I don't even know where to begin. Not only was the home set in the most tranquil surroundings, it was well appointed and sophisticated. Jon, the owner welcomed us upon our arrival, gave us keys and had the house set perfectly. It was so nice to arrive at dusk to a house with lights and heat on and a wonderful bottle of wine. He gave us plenty of information about the nearby towns and restaurants and then said goodbye. He was also available all week by phone if we had any questions about the area or house.

The home had very comfortable bedrooms, and nice large bathrooms. The master bath felt like the 4 seasons. We had our thanksgiving dinner there and although the kitchen is small, it had everything we needed, including a dishwasher! The size of the home was perfect for me, my husband, and three teenagers. The tv was located in the upstairs den and was perfect for us to watch a movie together, but I was happy that it was not in the main room. We played board games, took walks outside, and went sightseeing in local towns. One night we went to Millerton, about 20 minutes away, had a great dinner at a Tapas restaurant and went to se the new James Bond movie. (what I am trying to say is that we had the best of both worlds, country/civilization).

This week was exactly what my family needed. I am so grateful for this time together and having such a gracious host made it even better!
