Murs Estate Rental Photos and Description
Estate, 8 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 7 Baths, (Sleeps 16)

This extraordinary home located between the villages of Gordes and Murs was built on the foundations of a building that belonged to the 12th century Abbaye of Senanque, and is surrounded by 70 acres of unspoiled forest, fruit and almond trees, truffle oaks and fields of lavender. The magnificent views are uninterrupted across national forests to Cezanne's beloved Mount Saint Victoire.

As you drive off the main road onto a private gravel drive, you descend into a small valley, past a 500 year old oak tree that guards the approach to this stunning home. The first impression is truly breathtaking. The exterior walls are made from the irregular honey colored stones of Provence. From the central round tower, two large wings open to welcome you into an atmosphere of elegant serenity.

The large living room with its massive beams and comfortable furniture opens onto a covered terrace and a view of the infinity pool, beyond which unfold the rolling landscape of lavender and fruit trees, with the distant mountains and vivid Provence sky as background.

The dining room easily seats 16 guests and includes a huge wood burning stone fireplace.

The main floor also offers two very large bedrooms with en suite marble bathrooms, one with a large steam room/shower, the other with separate tub and shower. Both of these bedrooms have private exterior doors to a walled garden. There is a large library/sitting room, a media room with a 60 inch flat screen TV, a huge kitchen with top end appliances, a laundry room, an exercise room with state-of -the-art equipment, and two large covered terraces, one overlooking the pool and the other off the kitchen for dining al fresco.

The second floor has a large central hall, six more bedrooms and five more spacious marble bathrooms.

Our stay here was a luxurious and perfect escape from life in Salt Lake City. We arrived to discover this gorgeous house surrounded by lavender fields, oak groves and fruit orchards. The smells were incredible. The views from the house and pool are spectacular, sweeping down into a valley with mountains in the background. You definitely need a car to get around and the narrow, winding roads took some getting used to. The region is so beautiful that you easily get distracted while driving. We took trips to the various local markets, ate in lovely little restaurants, visited Roman ruins etc... But the best part was coming back to the house with its lovely bedrooms, fantastic kitchen, big airy sitting rooms and friendly staff. We saw deer around the house in the evenings and sometimes heard local wild boar foraging at night for truffles in the fields below the house. I could have spent all day sipping wine on the back terrace, reading my books, smelling the rosemary and lavender while the breeze offset the warm sun. This house was the best rental we've ever had and made it so hard to go back home at the end of our vacation.

With a magnificent view facing the Luberon and reaching as far as the Montagne St Victoire and the Alpilles, this beautiful home is for lovers of privacy. There is nothing more peaceful than to have breakfast on the terrace, facing such an horizon and with the infinity pool in the foreground. Tastefully and simply decorated, this large house offers all the amenities you would wish, from the elegant marble bathrooms to the simple Provencal furniture and comfortable beds. Living rooms, dining room, terraces offer many possibilities to share time together or to have enjoy calm and solitude. It is ideally located to discover the towns and villages of Provence and only a quick drive to the caves of Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Chateauneuf du Pape. An ideal vacation.

It'a a very beautifull and caractheristic building, located in a exceptional position, in the middle of an isolated saddle with a superb view on a great "Provencal" panorama.

Francophiles as we are, I can honestly say that this is the most beautiful house that we have stayed in; in any region of France. The Luberon itself has always attracted us. Murs and the Cistercian abbey of Senanque are absolutely the pinnacle of the region and this house sits in between them; far enough from the town to go un-noticed and poised on the hillside so that it has fabulous views and fresh air to breathe. The terrain is populated with fruit trees and heather bushes so the aroma is fantastic!

The house itself is extensive, calm, cool and luxurious. The beds are comfortable and the staff are wonderful. The swimming pool is refreshing and has a panoramic view West down the valley.

We enjoyed every moment of our holiday and will return as frequently as we possibly can. Thank you so much.
