Cute Comfortable House

"Cute comfortable house"
The Hale Pikake met our needs perfectly. It was cute and comfortable. Having a fireplace was great, especially on those cold Volcano evenings. The porch with table was a favorite hang out for our crew of 4 after a hard day in the field. Liked the funky shower/sink out in the backyard. Took us a while to find it.

We enjoyed our time in this cute house. It was cold and rainy for most of our visit, so we were grateful for the gas stove heater. The beds were very comfortable, and we appreciated the laundry facilities onsite.

old-style stay at Volcano Village

"old-style stay at Volcano village"
Place was comfortable enough for a couple nights stay. Reminded us of Hawaii in the 1950s---even has rotary phone in the hallway (but that's just decoration now). Does have wi-fi. Kitchen was fine and beds were comfortable enough for a couple nights stay.

"Interesting and relaxing"
We rented Hali Pikaki and it was ideal for 5 of us.We hiked the crater rim of Kiluea iki and crossed the crater surface and up to the car park 2.5 hrs and also examined the lava tube. We drove down both sides of the chain of craters to roads end. The Thai restaurant was good and one night we cooked at home. The rain water was a joy to drink.

Nice Older Hawaiian House

"Nice older Hawaiian house"
I work and stay in Volcano Village frequently and have tried many rentals. I had always wanted to stay in an older Hawaiian house and Hale Pikake was a nice opportunity. It is a nice clean house with plenty of space for two families and is close to Cooper Center and the main street in Volcano Village. The gas fireplace was very welcome because, as with typical Hawaiian houses, it is a bit drafty. It was still difficult to get the fireplace heat back into the bedrooms, though, so we were still quite chilly at night (which would have been fine if it had been just us adults, but the babies ended up in bed with us every night). The kitchen had all the necessities for cooking, which I find essential since Volcano Village has limited dining options (all very tasty, but since I visit so frequently, I've grown tired of all the restaurants except Thai Thai which is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere). Hale Pikake's half bath outside is only a shower, no second toilet ... that is listed in the description, but it's worth repeating.
