About Richard Becker

My family absolutely loves the outdoors and we also live on the Boardman River down stream. We enjoy kayaking, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. We take our two dogs for long hikes on the state land while looking for new exciting finds that the woods have to offer. We are also excited to share this with others who share our passion for the outdoors. This cottage is a unique place!

Richard Becker purchased this cottage in 2012
Why Richard Becker chose Traverse City

I purchased this property quite honestly because I have been here most of my life and I have found it to be in one of the best locations in the area. I love the outdoors but like the fact that I can be in Traverse City quickly with a beautiful drive to get there. The wildlife, fresh air, and of course the Boardman river being steps away, well you just can't beat it. I see all types of birds , deer, fox, partridge, well it goes on and on. Truly it has all the flavor of the now well known 'Pure Michigan.' And how about the Fall Colors

What makes this cottage unique

Wildlife including: deer, turkeys, partridge, rabbits, bobcats, and ducks. Birdwatching: Piliated woodpeckers, eagles, hawks, owls, hummingbirds, and orioles. Hiking, fourwheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. Beautiful view of river. Kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming. And lets not forget the fall colors! Also we have the Chery festival in July, the Horse show in July, and the Film festival after that!

This place is amazing! I only wish we could have stay for the whole week. Very private, peaceful, quiet. Spent most of our time there down by the river and by the fire. Close enough for a quick 20 min drive to downtown TC, but we ended up just making dinner since we didnt want to leave the cottage! We couldnt ask for anything better!

This is a hidden gem in the Traverse City area! Having vacationed there many times, this cottage made our trip one of the most memorable. It is a very clean, well-maintained cottage with the feel of home and the owner makes himself available for whatever you need, but leaves you to yourselves if you don't need anything. The river and area are beautiful, and sitting in the hot tub at night listening to the sounds of the woods is extremely relaxing. We will definitely return for another stay.

Vintage Cottage in the Woods!

We had an absolutely wonderful week end in the woods overlooking the river. If it's been awhile since you sat in front of a real wood burning fireplace, it's a must for relaxation. The hearth was set so all we had to do was light a match and enjoy the snacks that were already on the kitchen counter! We slept like logs in the dark quiet of the woods, in the oh sooo comfortable beds, under big fluffy comforters. What a treat. The whole place was imaculate and we can't recommeded it more highly!

Secluded, outdoorsy cottage

We enjoyed our girl's two night away stay in Traverse City here at the Boardman River cottage. We loved the real wood fireplace as well as the outdoor fire pit by the river. The beds were all very comfortable & clean. Enjoyed the deck off the bedroom looking over the river as well as sitting with our coffee in the morning on the front door deck. Obviously, a lot of steps up to the cottage since it does sit above the river but something to consider. Close to Mission Peninsula and Traverse City and not so bad getting to things farther west in the area. Pretty well located. Places we visited that we recommend: Gill's Pier Vineyard, the drive between Glen Arbor & Empire on M~22, Pierce Stocking Drive, Apache Trout Grille for lunch.
The only improvement this comfortable cottage needs is a dishwasher esp for those who intend to eat in. Perhaps Richard has this addition in mind for 2013.

Owner's Response: Hi Jeanne and the Girls that spent the week-end at the cottage. I really want to thank you for all the input you gave for the cottage. The stairs are many, yet it really adds to the setting and if ever anyone needs help with bags or supplies being brought in, all they need to do is call and I will help right away. Some new addittions to the cottage next year do include, a dishwasher, central air, and a screened in sitting area. So that along with a perfect location should top this location off as one of the best in the area! I want to thank all that spent time here this year and hope to see some of you if not all back next! Again, many thanks, Richard

What a treasure!

Spent the most wonderfully relaxing weekend here. It was my first time back to the Traverse City area in quite some time. This cottage is a hidden treasure--exactly as advertised, completely comfortable, cozy, and clean. I love to cook and found the kitchen to be very well equipped. The outdoor grill was really nice too. Richard is just great, giving just as much help as needed. The fresh eggs were yummy! An easy drive into Traverse from there (if you want restaurants, shopping, etc) as well as a hop, skip and a jump over to Interlochen (for concerts, culture, etc). For the outdoorsy types, this cottage would be ideal (kayaking, hiking, etc). Richard can help facilitate all that stuff. I brought my dog along on the trip--perfect setting for long walks in the woods and meadows to play frisbee. I would highly recommend this property and hope to go back again next year!

Getaway Weekend

Beautiful place, my wife and I were looking forward to our weekend away. There are beautiful views from the cabin. The closeness to Traverse City was a big plus. Even thought it rained all weekend we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The owner Richard was tremendous, because of the bad weather he offered us an additional night for free. We would have loved to take him up but we had to get back home.

Outstanding Property!

We would highly recommend this property for anyone who desires a quiet, peaceful retreat. We thoroughly enjoyed this unique cottage on the river. Richard, the property owner, was amazing with how helpful and welcoming he was upon our arrival. We were greeted with a supply of fresh eggs and a tour of the house. The property was more impressive than the listing on VRBO and pictures cannot do it justice. The house was very well maintained and extremely clean when we arrived. While in the Traverse City area, we took the time to visit numerous wineries, breweries and restaurants and return each evening for wine by the fireplace and soak in the hot tub. We will definitely return for another vacation to this property.

We arrived on September 20th and was greeted by the property owner. He welcomed us and showed us a few of the amenities and then left us to explore the wonders of the area. This cottage was so much more than we had imagined! The sweet tranquility, peacefulness for the soul, and serene enviorment was perfect. The feeling was that of all worries being lifted and total relaxation at its finest. There was brochures with maps for the local areas, which we used to find some neat little shops. We had fresh eggs every morning and a camp fire each night. We are now planing our next trip to this very cottage, as we will only be staying in this cottage when we come to Treverse City.. A very special thank you to Richard, for this serene home away from home, that is filled with all the nature and love a soul can hold. God Bless You.
