LE PARADIS

Le Paradis is a beautiful maison de maître in the village of Lavardens. The village is nice, but not very lively, there is even no proper bakery for fresh croissants. (only a "dépôt de pain").
The house is super well kept and very clean and really sleeps 8.
The kitchen in the house is separated from the terrace with a small table where only two people can eat. A larger party of people will be obliged to eat inside.
The swimming pool is seperated from the house by a litlle road on the back side and can be reached by leaving the house (in the street on the frontside) and going down the little hill (20m). A semi outdoor kitchen with barbecue and fridge is installed at the swimming pool and includes a table for 8. Dishes can however not be washed there, because only cold water available, so when eating there, one has to take the dishes "upstairs up the hill". Moreover, the swimming pool and its adjacent kitchen facility are only available from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. Forget about breakfast before 10 and dinner with pleasant talks afterwards outside. Our general opinion is that the house is beautiful and pleasant but too expensive taking into account the practical disavantages described.
Owner's Response: Lavardens is a small, medieval, hilltop village of 114 inhabitants. It has a range of amenities including a shop, Post Office, restaurant and bar/brasserie. The local shop (épicerie) sells a variety of local products including wines, fruit and vegetables, a selection of dried goods and fresh bread. Guests are advised on arrival that fresh bread, croissants and pains au chocolat can be ordered and collected from the shop daily with the exception of Mondays. There is also a 12th century church and château which has numerous exhibitions throughout the year, and a small museum of the history of telephones. During July and August four night markets are held in the village. These are pleasant evenings where you can sample and buy local products including wines, cheeses, patisseries; you can also dine in the street whilst listening to live music by various artists.Le Paradis is a well appointed 12th century house with a private pool. The large entrance hall opens into the living room, which adjoins the less formal sitting room or sun lounge with double doors opening onto a large balcony with views over the garden and countryside. The balcony has a drinks table and chairs for evening aperitifs. In the summer months excessive heat precludes dining on the balcony; guests prefer to make use of the covered terrace by the pool where they can be seen enjoying each other’s company well into the night. Guests also take advantage of the cooler mornings having breakfast on the balcony. The open plan kitchen dining room is well equipped and has a dining table which seats 8-10 people. The garden is reached either by exiting the rear door or by the cellar door which opens 10 metres from the garden gate. There is a heated salt water pool set in an enclosed garden. The swimming pool and changing room are available from 10h00-22h00 to allow for maintenance but may be opened earlier and/or closed later by agreement. The garden can be accessed at all times by the client. The area has a solar heated shower and eight sun loungers with towels. There is also a changing room, dining area and an outdoor kitchen, including fridge, cupboard with glasses, plates, bowls, cutlery and food preparation equipment, sink with cold water supply and barbecue incorporating a separate gas burner for heating water for dishes. For floor plans of the house and garden please visit our websiteTime Out in Gascony.
