Ascot Gardens - home from home in Cape Town

Many returns Newark, Nottinghamshire, UK
Review Submitted: April 9, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
What a wonderful place! Excellent accommodation within easy reach of the city, the Cape Peninsula and the Boland and Overberg.
The self-catering units are equipped to the highest standards - including satellite TV and CD and DVD players, a private outdoor are with garden furniture and braai (barbeque) and in our unit (Royal) a dishwasher, coffee maker etc.The whole complex comprises 4 adjacent houses now converted into about 12 units surrounded by beautiful, well-tended indigenous gardens. The is an outdoor swimming pool, and a small library with books to borrow and tourist information leaflets plus a PC with broadband internet connection. For those with laptops, the site is covered by Ascot's own wireless network. Parking is off-road, and the whole complex is very secure. Barry & Lesley, the proprietors, live on site and are very friendly and always ready to quickly solve any minor difficulties or offer advice or help.

We were on a very short break of one week and had to pack in a lot of sightseeing. Ascot Gardens is perfectly located for Cape Town and all the other beautiful areas surrounding it. The accomodation was very comfortable and secure. The local restaurant, the Bistro was a great bonus for us and is highly recommended! Thanks to another Irishman, Peter, owner and chef.
Thanks Barry and Lesley and I suspect we will see you again.

Week of a lifetime

Review Submitted: February 24, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Having spent five weeks in China, New Zealand and Australia it was hard to see how anything could better this experience but Cape Town, and in particular Ascot Gardens, won hands down. Its location is ideal for first time visitors to this vibrant and beautiful city - it is within 30 minutes motorway drive from most attractions including the city, Waterfront and beaches and our hosts, Barry and Lesley, could not have been more accommodating during our stay, organising a hire car, recommending local restaurants and nightlife and wonderful excursions. Information and brochures were readily available in the information book in each unit and the leaflets in the computer room (free wireless internet, pre-paid telephone) The cottage was equipped with everything that we needed for our stay. The service was friendly and the cottage was clean and the complex was perfectly safe. The standard of the food in the restaurants nearby was amazing and the value for money simply can't be beaten. Louis on the Block just 150 yards away was certainly a favourite and comes highly recommended.
A particular mention must go to our private tour guide John Dougall - particularly knowledgeable, excellent company, luxury vehicle. Wine tasting in Boschendal, visiting Cape Point, the penguins, Table Mountain at sunset, Newlands Cricket Ground, a round of golf and shark diving - it was a packed week and my only regret is that it wasn't a fortnight.

Quite nice

Review Submitted: January 26, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Ascot Gardens was a nice surprise. Location was perfect for us, we felt safe while staying there. The pool was nice, and most of the time I could swim there all by myself. The cottage was clean, and the patio excellent for afternoon sunbathing. The only negative thing was the sheets, as being made of synthetic fabric made them quite sweaty during some warm nights. Toilet paper could have been more. All in all, a nice place, which I could easily recommend for my friends :-)
Owner's Response: All the bedrooms at ASCOT GARDENS have ceiling fans above the beds and there are ceiling fans as well in all lounges.

These fans can be used to bring the temperature of the rooms down ,especially at night.

The summer duvets we supply are made of light weight polycotton with a polyester filling and have been approved as being quite acceptable for our 3 Star Self Catering Grading as awarded by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.

Should guests find the duvets too hot to sleep under ,we also provide in each suite, 2 additional polycotton top sheets.

In winter, a similar heavier polycotton duvet plus blanket is provided .

We do supply and re stock toilet rolls when required.

Ascott - King Suite

Review Submitted: January 15, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
The facilities were great, the property was clean and well maintained. The dishwasher was a major plus as well full dstv. the suite was well stocked and had all the necessary equipment to cook meals etc.
Owner's Response: KING SUITE is one of the 3 deluxe 1 bedroom suites ( 90 sq metres in size) on the ASCOT GARDENS property that have sleeper couches in their lounges, full satellite TV, DVD ,music centres as well as dishwasher and stove and fully equipped kitchen with microwave.

These deluxe suites are ideal for sleeping 2 persons in the bedroom and for up to 2 additional children /persons in the lounge ,using the sleeper couch or a double bunk if preferred.

As the ASCOT GARDENS prices are per night, per suite , NO extra charges are made for these additional persons .

ASCOT GARDENS has also a 2 Bedroom House sleeping 4 to 6 and a 3 Bedroom House sleeping 6 to 8 persons available , if required for larger families .

Complete Houses/Villas sleeping 8 to 12 persons are also available at ASCOT GARDENS .

December stay at Ascot

Lisa & Greg Johannesburg
Review Submitted: January 8, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Accommodation was excellent. Family unit was very spacious and clean with a large fully equipped kitchen. Having the extra toilet was a big advantage as we were a family of 5. Gardens were immaculate and pool area and braai facilities were well situated to the unit. Barry and Lesley were excellent hosts. The property is also situated close to shopping centre and restaurants (all walking distance).
Only a short drive to sightseeing areas.
Owner's Response: This family of 5 stayed in in the KING SUITE ,one of the 3 ASCOT GARDENS Deluxe suites, which we advertise to sleep 2 or 3/4 persons
These Deluxe suites are approximately 90 square metres in size , and consist of a bedroom and large open plan kitchen (with stove and dish washer ) dining table and lounge .
The bathroom is free standing ( this means you do not enter the bathroom via the bedroom) and includes toilet ,bath and shower , plus there is also an additional separate toilet.
ASCOT GARDENS prices are per suite per night so there was no additional charge made for the 3 children who slept on a double bunk and bed, which we provided in the spacous lounge .
These Deluxe suites at ASCOT GARDENS therefore offer excellent value for money, especially when accommodation for additional persons or extended families is required .

two week stay

ex capetonians Auckland, New Zealand
Review Submitted: January 2, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
Both David and I found our two week stay well worth it. As ex-Capetonians, we knew the area well. The choice was spot on on all levels. Convenience, vacinity, own space, secure parking - and the bonus on arrival - the magnificently kept gardens - quite spectacular.

Would we recommend Ascot to friends. Sure will. Already have. No hesitation in recommending your fine estabishment.

Keep up the good work.
Owner's Response: All the accommodation suites are situated over looking a section of the beautiful one acre garden (which has appeared on BBC TV's Gardeners World Program).
The garden has magnificent plants and trees, stunning water features and is home to a variety of bird species, fish, frogs and squirrels.
On the ASCOT GARDENS property there is a swimming pool with a water fall rock feature .
Other water features ,statues , ornaments , signage and concrete animals are to be discovered scattered around the Engish, Indigenous, and Jungle gardens .
The gardens have been nurtured and cared for by owner Lesley and gardener Michael for the past 15 years , and there is always colour through out the year .
If you require self catering accommodation and enjoy viewing well maintained and attractive gardens, offering peace and tranquility , then you will not be disapointed with Ascot Gardens .

Home From Home

Review Submitted: December 9, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This establishment is ideal for holiday makers or business travelling. It has facilities for family re-unions or couples. I really like the extensive library and computer room. Broadband internet and fax facilities are available in the computer room. Brochures of tours and car-hire services are also available in the library. There are two supermarkets as well as several restaurants within 10 minutes' easy walking distance. Although the main road is close by there is no traffic noise. The directions to and from the airport are excellent. The gardens are beautifully maintained and most imaginative. Each apartment has a private patio and braai area. The service is excellent but un-obtrusive. There is a large, well equipped laundry room. A large grassy children's playground is across the road. I have recommended this establishment to friends and business colleagues.
Owner's Response: Joan Helen is a single lady who often visits her daughter and her grand children as they live near to Ascot Gardens in the quiet suburb of BERGVLIET IN THE CONSTANTIA VALLEY

Joan does not hire a car during her stay at ASCOT GARDENS and feels that the BERGVLIET area is safe from crime .
She walks alone to her daughters house and back as well as to the nearby shopping centre and local restauarants .

ASCOT GARDENS has secure off street parking , remote controlled entance gates , CCTV cameras operating in strategic areas, and emergency panic buttons positioned in every suite .

This button if activated ,sets off a loud siren alarm in the owners house as well as to a connected local security company and help and assistance for distressed guests will arrive within minutes . ( NB. Thankfully up to date ,no security problems have ever occured at ASCOT GARDENS )

The property is well lit at night.

Lesley and Barry, the owners of ASCOT GARDENS ,live in their own private house on the property .

One of us above is nearly always on site and available to answer guest queries or provide assurance and information if required.

Review Submitted: December 8, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
Dear Lesley & Barry,
Just a quick note to thank you for your hospitality and for making my time with you so comfortable. Your accommodations are great. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending Ascot Gardens to anyone.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Keith
Canada.
Owner's Response: Keith initially only booked for a 2 weeks stay at ASCOT GARDENS .

After arrival he extended his stay to 7 weeks in total as the ASCOT GARDENS suite he was occupying and the price charged was most acceptable to him .

ASCOT GARDENS welcomes longer stays and offers a discount of 10 % for stays of 21 nights or more, 15% discounts for stays of 42 nights or longer and less 20 % for stays of more than 56 nights.

Stays of 3 months and longer are subject to special long stay quotes and are dependant on suite availability and season.
