Luxurious, stately, quite, comfortable, accommodating, conveniently located, and in a word "fabulous!". All those characteristics and more apply to this great apartment in Edinburgh's "NewTown" district. Our taxi driver let us off on Queen Street and Weymss Place and as we walked away he called to us saying, "You should know that you are a short distance from everything, including the birthplace of birth Robert Louis Stevenson and Alexander Graham Bell". we didn't know it then but he was correct. Because of its location we didn't see another taxi again until the sad day we left for the airport.
When we walked in we were immediately struck by just how beautiful the rooms were. Well appointed and inviting. A clearly written binder was on the dining room table explaining everything we needed to know about the apartment and how to use the many utilities and devices meant to make our stay worry free as well as a rack by the front door containing brochures for just about any activity imaginable.
As we looked around we were very pleasantly surprised by all the little touches of elegance in evidence. Fresh cut flowers and fruit in a bowl as well as a small selection of chocolates on the dinning room table. The fridge contained water, a small container of milk , some butter and margarine as well. There was also a loaf of bread as well as a selection of Teas. We almost always rent apartments when we travel and I have to say we have never had one so welcoming. Usually our first order of business is to find a market in order to stock up for our stay. In this apartment they made sure we could ease into the vacation and we very much appreciated that gesture. Truly one of a kind!!
The private gardens just across the way were spectacular. The time of year was perfect as the buds were slowly emerging but the tranquil space would be a sanctuary in any season. Many of Edinburgh's major sites are very close, most within a mile of the apartment. Edinburgh Castle, Scottish National Galleries, The Royal Mile, Underground, Waverly Bridge, St Andrews Square, St Giles and many more can be listed. In addition, fabulous restaurants in all price ranges are nearby along Queen Street and one block more to Thistle Street. Like Mark Greenaway's, No. 12 Picardy Place, and Fishers in the City, on Thistle Street. Both put smiles on our faces.
This vacation we fell in love with Edinburgh. That was due in large part to where we chose to stay. We were on vacation but it felt like home!
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We are very happy you enjoyed Edinburgh and the apartment and we do hope to see you again soon.
All the best
Paul Thomas
