Casa Amarela is a very pretty Villa set slightly up a hill with a lovely view of the valley. The house is very well appointed in terms of space and facilities. We particularly liked the fact that there was a welcome pack and that the previous occupants left their groceries behind for us to use and replace. A very good system.
The house is very comfortable with plenty of extras. The beds are a bit hard but we got round that by sleeping on top of the Duvets. Not sure what you would do if you had a bad back however!!
The linen etc. was all changed half way through which was very helpful.
The swimming pool is good and a man comes to clean it and take care of that side of things. It is secluded and not overlooked at all which is fine. The shallow end is large which would be very helpful if you have small children but not great for swimming ‘lengths’ as you cannot thrash about due to the small depth. It is in the sun most of the day however and was warm enough for plopping in and out.
There are plenty of local restaurants however they do take a bit of searching out. We drove past one several times before we found it as they are not too keen on large road signs. The visitor’s book is very helpful for all that sort of information. Messines is not as attractive as Silves but it has a good market and one very uninspiring restaurant for the outside gave us an excellent meal so reserve judgement until you’ve tried things.
Silves is a delightful old town with historical interest and interesting shops. Well worth a few trips. The people were very friendly and all spoke good English. We weren’t in Portugal to do much sightseeing and we did not venture too far so a guidebook may be well-advised if you wanted to see more. You definiteyl need a car to get about.
I would not recommend the Algarve coast much as there are beaches and sands but far too many people and the pool at the house is a much better. If you want fish and chips and loud music, fine. If not, stay away.
The owners were very helpful when we had a slight glitch with the house, sorting things out immediately via a local English contact.
All in all a good break and I would recommend the Villa to groups and families alike for a happy break.
