Photos and Description of the Charlottesville vacation house rental
House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Serpentine Studio is a beautiful and quiet two room studio apartment located in the historic Woolen Mills neighborhood. It is a part of our 1830's brick home and is located only one mile from downtown Charlottesville and two miles from the University of Virginia (both can easily accessed by the nearby city bus line).

As a part of our property we offer a private dock with a hammock and deck chair overlooking the Rivanna River, a perfect spot to relax and watch the wildlife. The river setting offers a unique, peaceful environment where one is able to step back from the business of life, while simultaneously remaining close to the center of town. Our house is located near the Rivanna River Trail which winds along the river for 12 miles and offers wonderful opportunities for biking, hiking, birdwatching, and the possibilities of canoeing and fishing.

The studio apartment has its own easily accessed entrance, and is beautifully renovated with heart pine floors and exposed brick walls. There is an adjacent breakfast room overlooking the river with a water cooker, coffee maker and small refrigerator. We will provide tea, coffee, and a basic breakfast for your convenience. Both rooms are decorated with original artwork. The owner's nearby sculpture studio offers an artistic setting with sculptures in progress as well as original artwork placed throughout the house and extensive backyard. The bathroom offers a shower and an antique clawfoot bath tub.

About The Owner

I am Swedish and my husband is from Los Angeles. We have lived in Charlottesville for the past 25 years and love it. I work as a sculptor and an art instructor but have always dreamt of running a bed and breakfast. Now that our daughter has moved out, the lower part of the house is empty and I am excited to share our great house and yard with other people.

We still travel extensively but when we are at home we are looking forward to meet our guests.

The Owner purchased this house in 1995
Why The Owner chose Charlottesville

Our property is close to downtown and the University but is still situated in a country setting. Our back yard opens up to the Rivanna River where we have a dock and there are miles of walking trails along the river. It is a quiet romantic setting as you sit in a dock chair at dusk sometimes spotting the Bald Eagles that live down the river.

What makes this house unique

The character and ambiance of this house is priceless. It was built in the 1830's and we have brought out the beauty of the original building materials, exposed brick walls and beautiful heart pine floors. As and an artist there is a lot of art in my life and you will find and abundance of original art in the rental property and around the yard.

we enjoyed being off the beaten path in a nice quiet neighborhood, yet close enough to enjoy all that charlottesville has to offer. nini was a great host, left us cherries and bananas, and opened her laundy facilities for our use. we would return again!
