The view of the lake and quarry, especially at sundown, is spectacular. No motor boats over 10 horsepower are allowed on the lake so it is very quiet. With 3 bedrooms and 1 and a half baths, there is plenty of room in the cottage, and it is completely furnished with all kitchen utensils, appliances, sheets, towels and other amenities. Echo Dreams cottage is truly having a vacation in someone's home.

The deck on the lake side is over 40 feet long and the furniture is very comfortable. Just relaxing, reading or watching the lake has become a great pastime.

The master bedroom has a queen size bed, guest room next to it has twin beds, as does the upstairs bedroom. Full bath downstairs and 1/2 bath upstairs. There is a small desk in the downstairs bedroom where the wireless apparatus is located.

Keywords: Private cottage on beautifully wooded property, sitting on edge of a granite quarry, overlooking Echo Lake, within minutes of Acadia National Park and all of its outdoor activities, yet serene enough to simply sit on the large deck and relax. Cottage has all the modern amenities you will need to have a carefree vacation, including fully equipped kitchen, all linens and towels, beach gear, wireless DSL, satellite TV, outdoor gas grill. Cottage has 1.5 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms. Five minutes from Southwest Harbor and only 12 minutes from Bar Harbor with its shopping, restaurants and constant activities. This is more than a rental property and is decorated as such.

Ellen and I built this house some years ago as a place to get away from the hectic life of New Jersey. Now that we are both retired from the telecommunications industry and travel to see our 10 grandchildren all over the US, we want to share this beauty with others who will appreciate it. The construction of the house is unique and all of the wood still smells as it did when we first built it. Because it is our second home, it has been kept in excellent condition. When we are here we use the park almost every day and enjoy exploring other towns nearby.

Although it is a somewhat long drive from NJ, this whole area has a certain mystique about it---slower pace, cleaner outdoors, healthier atmosphere. This home has that relaxed feeling also. We fell in love with the whole area after the first time we were here.

Very enjoyable vacation

We had a fantastic vacation on Mt Dessert Island and Echo Dream's Cottage was a good part of it. A perfect location for visiting all parts of the island and surrounding area. There were 4 of us, 2 adults and two older kids, 17 and 21. The setup was perfect for us and the cottage was very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and we used the outside grill several times. The listing and photos do a pretty good job of representing the cottage but I'd say the picture of the lake doesn't do the view justice. Just because it can't capture the wide view of the trees. You can’t see any other cottages so it’s pretty private. We heard the loons a few times each day and at night which was very cool.
We brought our bikes for the carriage paths and hiking stuff for the many trails. We hiked Acardia Mountain which is South on 102 a bit. Also drove the park loop and took a ride over to Schoodic Peninsula. Both offer fantastic views and many stops to walk the rocks on the ocean edge.
After one bike ride we ate at the Jordon Pond house and had the famous popovers and lobster stew, expensive but fun. We ate at the Docksider in Northeast Harbor and while it only gets 3 stars on the net we liked it, had good service and thought the prices were more reasonable than other places. Of the 3 places we had lobster stew the best was from Lunt's on the main drag just before you enter the island. We weren't that impressed with Thurstons (but everyone says go there!), we waited longer than a couple behind us for our food and our lobster was a little over cooked.
The only con for the cottage is that route 102 is between Echo Lake and the cottage. You can't really see it but you can hear the cars go by. Didn't really bother us but if you want near total quiet it might be bothersome.
Bring consumables, paper towels, toilet paper, soap for shower, liquid soap. There might be some there but if you use it up you replace it. There is a nice grocery market just south on 102.
As you can see in the pictures the deck is not child proof (or the quarry) so I wouldn't recommend this cottage for toddlers but would for anyone else and it is well worth the rental price. Enjoy!

Owner's Response: Mark, thank you for this recommendation. We try very hard to accommodate our guests wishes and provide them with a special experience. Our place is really a home away from home, not just a rustic rental, and providing all of the necessities makes a vacation much easier. certainly better than having to lug all your stuff with you. I will certainly see about getting some better pictures of the lake into our writeup.

This home was perfect for us. We spent the morning on the huge balcony drinking coffee and overlooking the rock quarry and Echo Lake. It is about a 10 minute drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia. The owners recommended someone that we could order lobsters from and it worked out perfectly. There were plenty of dishes and cooking items, etc. The home was clean. I would definitely recommend staying here and I would consider renting this home again in the future.

The location was ideal since we wanted to visit both the main part of Acadia National Park and the quiet side of the island (including the Echo Lake). The cottage had everything we needed and more. It was very clean, well-cared for, and big enough for our family of 5, including 3 children. Having a washer and dryer was a huge plus. We enjoyed seeing deer walking near the property in the morning. After spending a long day outdoors, we relaxed on the deck and our kids loved playing in front of the house, which is at the end of the gravel road and we didn't have to worry about any traffic. The owners were very responsive to our questions prior to the arrival and during the stay. We had a great time there and can't wait to go back.

Owner's Response: Miwa,
i don't know why it took so long for me to get notified about your recommendation, but a very belated "thank you" is in order. Ellen and I try very hard to be responsive to our guests and to provide you with all the things you need to have a wonderful and relaxing experience. We obviously scored high with you and the family. We would love to have you back anytime you get the urge to "rough it" again. Thank you.
