Photos and Description of the San Carlos vacation villa rental
1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

This architect designed custom home was completed 4 years ago with all modern conveniences. The tastefully appointed guest apartment offers privacy, is self-contained with one bedroom, one bath and incredible sunset views over the yachts at anchor and Tetakawi Mountain. Total area of living space is 1,000 sq. ft. with access to pleasant green lawns, colorful gardens and a barbeque on the deck. This fully air conditioned residence offers 9 ft ceilings, tiled floors and counters, cedar cabinets in a gorgeous modern Spanish style home. Watch the boating action as you sip coffee from the queen sized bed or lounge on the decks overlooking a Mediterranean style view. Swim in nearby coconut fringed beaches, hike under the bluffs at low tide, or walk the cobblestone streets to the marina, restaurants and shops. Rent an ATV to get around, or bring or rent a car.

About the Owner: We are sailors who bumped into this boating mecca en route to our boat in Mazatlan and fell in love with San Carlos. We have been stunned at the number of friends we have made here, and our ever expanding social life. We love to sail to remote anchorages, hangout and snorkel. Also to ride horses through the arroyos and on the beaches. Paul is an artist and yacht broker and Cate helped establish a Global Health Center at Oregon Health & Science University and now works remotely. It always feels great to arrive back in San Carlos, where the cares of the world drop away.

Why the Owner Chose San Carlos: This is our home, we bought the land in 2003 and built several years later over a 2 year period finishing in 2008. We like the fact that San Carlos is only 240 miles South of the Arizona border and accessible by a 4 lane toll highway or flight from Phoenix, Arizona to Guaymas, Mexico. The airport is a 15 minute drive from the Caracol.

We love to walk on the beach and explore the tide pools, or sip Margaritas with friends while listening to music in a beach side palapa. One evening at the Soggy Peso, as my favorite band Bohemia was packing up, Omar the pianist launched into Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, as the sun set across the water it was so beautiful, I thought life couldn't get better than this! Though Danny' Moreno's singing at Ruby's Wine bar comes very close. San Carlos rocks. Oh and nothing rivals Bonaficio's Cotton Club Restaurant when the moon is full - stunning!

The Unique Benefits of this Villa: The views are world class in a Mediterranean like neighborhood. We enjoy peace and quiet on the Caracol, and often get lulled to sleep with the lapping of the waves on the shore. It is so beautiful here, that any extra sight seeing activity around San Carlos is a bonus. The house offers a birds-eye-view of the yachts going by and beyond to the Sea of Cortez. Across the bay from the house is the majestic Tetakawi Mountain where sunsets can be astounding. We are walking distance to two charming, small sandy beaches and boating activity. There is a nearby Beach Club, with pool and kayaks.

Great location and views

The spacious apt - part of a private home - is located in an attractive neighborhood, and the views are indeed wonderful. The outside of the home is well maintained and attractive. Unfortunately, less care has been spent by the owners on the interior appearance. If you are looking for ambiance or a touch of Mexico, forget it. Most of the furniture appears to have come from a second-hand store and was scuffed and stained. The bedroom was large, but sparsely furnished - no bedside tables or good reading lamps, and the the king-size mattress sagged sadly
The kitchen was well equipped with all essentials.
The owners were friendly but clearly preoccupied with their impending departure. It would have been very helpful to have an information binder in the apt with appliance instructions and area information. As it was, we had to find out most things for ourselves, which could be an issue for less enterprising travelers. San Carlos is a wonderful, relaxing place and I would recommend it to anyone.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately my wife and I did have to return to the USA unexpectedly and on short notice. We always try to be available to our guests and their needs. The casita is however setup so that visitors can be completely self reliant. This includes a very thorough print out with everything from ‘how to’ on appliances, to which restaurants we prefer and a nice section on ‘what to do’ in San Carlos and surrounds. After seeing this review, we have decided to email this document to our guests prior to their arrival. The king sized bed mentioned in the review is a ‘Sleep Number’ that is fully adjustable. We were not told that they were having difficulty with the bed. We have changed the Sleep Number bed to a conventional queen sized bed so that this problem will not reoccur. The casita boasts a clothes washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, stove with oven, refrigerator, garbage disposal, TV, air conditioners, heaters and fans. The kitchen is fully equipped. There are always clean linens and towels and the casita is always immaculate when you arrive. The views are world class and if you like boats, you will love this place. All the boating traffic from Marina San Carlos passes in front of the house, making the view an ever changing delight. The property is professionally managed when we are in the USA and the grounds and outdoor areas are cleaned once a week. It saddens us that these people were not completely satisfied. Please note that your happiness and satisfaction is our primary goal. Thank you, Paul and Cate Bishop

We spent a wonderful week visiting this amazing casita in mid-October, which was a beautiful time to vacation in sunny San Carlos--delightful air and water temps. From the moment we walked through the large Mediterranean entry gate, we knew we were in for a restful experience. Lush landscaping greeted us and we found the place to be very clean and nicely decorated. We were happy when we discovered that the lovely paintings we had admired hanging throughout we're painted by our host! The listing and photos were quite accurate, but neither pictures nor words can adequately do justice to the stunning daytime and sunset views, framed by the over-sized picture windows in the bedroom and living room. Our casita was SO comfortable that we found it hard to leave! We did conclude that eating out at the nicer local restaurants can be on the pricey side, so we cooked most of our meals in. The kitchen adequately met our needs. There are two newer grocery stores in town, and we really enjoyed the Mexican shopping experience, as Paul had recommended. Bottled water was plentifully provided, and we had no water concerns. Though traveling out of the country may have its anxieties, we felt very safe and secure. Since tourism is a very important to this area, the powers that be want to make sure that visitors feel at ease driving and vacationing here. You can ask any of the foreigners that live here. The Caracol Peninsula, where the house is located, is an ideal location for a home/vacation get-away. Paul and Cate chose their building site wisely, and have built a masterpiece where we were fortunate to stay. Traveling the cobblestone streets to get up to the house can really rattle a car, but the final destination is more than worth it. Have I mentioned the outstanding view?! Our hosts were absolute gems to deal with, and they work very hard at maintaining the property despite some of the challenges that come with living in Mexico. In summary, the casita was very comfortable for the two of us, and we hope to return as soon as we can. Hasta Luego!

Our recent 1 week vacation here at the open and spacious Casita was extremely comforting. It was wonderful waking up to the phenomenol views of the Caracol Peninsula. We looked so forward to ending our day with relaxing on the balcony, enjoying the calmness as the evening approached and sipping our favourite Refreshment....
The owners were very "welcoming" and eager to please to ensure that our time spent was a great experience.
The hills and cobblestone streets of the area make it a bit of a struggle if you are in your Senior years....but if you are physically fit then you will enjoy walking throughout the neighbourhood and seeing the gorgeous villas and walking to 2 private Beaches....otherwise a vehicle is necessary.
The local beaches are superb and closeby amenities are enough to add to your comforts.....all Restaurants that we tried were very good! The local people are extremely friendly and most speak good or some English but they love it if you try to speak Spanish with them....

The Sea of Cortez and the Caracol Peninsula will make your heart sing!
I hope your stay will be as enjoyable as ours!

We spent 10 days here and enjoyed every minute! We had everything we needed for our vacation. The kitchen was fully equipped, the home was very neat and clean, and the views were incredible. I really enjoyed the walks to town on the cobble stone streets and sitting on the deck with a Pacifico beer and enjoying the views. We even got to watch whales from the deck one evening. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

Casa de los suenos

I highly recommend this place. the private balcony that looks out over the bay gives the tranquil feeling of ocean seclusion while the house's close proximity to town makes it convenient for any traveler. Several mornings I woke up and walked into town to run errands and was able to catch a public transportation bus back to the entrance of the gated community without problems. Other mornings, i stayed in and drank coffee on the porch, looking out over the water. Having a kitchen and a dining room table perched in the sun allowed us to cook breakfast on these lazy mornings. The kitchen was fully functional with microwave, oven, stove, large freezer and fridge, tons of storage, pots, pans, dishes, silverware and even coffee maker.

The solar hot water heater made for great eco friendly showers and having a garden hose available below the deck was great for washing off our surf boards after a day out in the water. San Carlos has many water activities worth checking out! Sailing with dolphins, horseback riding on the beach, stand up paddle boarding, kitesurfing or even collecting shells- it is no wonder the locals of this beach town are so happy and friendly. Also worth checking out is the night life- la voga and a few other dance clubs that are only a cab fare away from the house.

I highly recommend staying at this house of dreams, and would prefer it to a hotel option any day. The amount of space and amenities that come with this rental would be triple the price for a penthouse in a local hotel. We really enjoyed our time in San Carlos and cannot wait to return to stay there again!

This place has probably one the best views in San Carlos, is very clean, quite, safe and has beautiful architecture. It's close to everything and there was more than enough room for the three of us. Given the price we did not have especially high expectations, but were really pleasantly surprised. San Carlos was great, but watching sunsets from the deck really made the trip.

My wife and I recently rented this unit for a week and were quite pleased with the accommodations. The unit was well maintained and equipped with everything you would need.

The view from the unit is excellent and the grounds are well maintained. Enjoyed doing business with the owners.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful Mexican casa while enjoying one of the best views San Carlos has to offer. The views were phenomenal, overlooking the famous Tetakawi mountains and San Carlos Bay. Quiet, safe neighborhood with plenty of privacy. The kitchen was fully stocked and living area was clean, comfortable, and a great place to spend an evening with friends. Very relaxing and would definitely stay again!
