Photos and Description of the Antigonish vacation house rental
House, 2 Bedrooms, Queen sofa bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Xanadu is the closest you can be to the ocean without taking a cruise vacation. As you arrive on location, driving over the bluff, you are confronted with a panoramic view of water. This exclusive custom (ICF) constructed property is brand new with luxury appointments both in and out. Great for those who want to relax on the New Brunswick quarried slate patio watching fishermen directly out front in the early morning, whales, seals and eagles during the day or Hawaiian like sunsets, shooting stars and satellites during the night. To the discerning chef, the kitchen has it all. If swimming is your thing, the water at the beach has been termed the 'Warmest North of the Carolina's'.

The area is great for the active individual interested in water sports, hiking at Cape George(lighthouse site which inspired Robert Munsch book of the same name) or cycling around 'The miniature Cabot Trail' of the Cape.

The town of Antigonish, site of Highland Games and St. FX University, is only 15 minutes away. Here you can access any amenities you may require. The town also hosts an 18 hole golf course.

Why Paul chose Antigonish

My wife and I chose this location as it is only a 2 hour drive to Halifax Airport and it was one of the few properties on that shore where we could gain such access to the ocean with a house/cottage.

What makes this house unique

My wife and I both enjoy cooking and this was never far from our minds when we designed the kitchen for Xanadu. The area is open concept with high beamed ceilings and no matter where you stand, all you see is ocean. There are speaker systems both in and outside the living area, so you can have soft background music playing while you create dinner for the evening.

If you are like me you and like to get away from it all, but you don't want to spend too much time getting there or having to rough it too much; then this place is perfect.

Less than 3hrs from the Halifax airport, this location is easy to get to. Once you get here, everything you need is on site. High Speed Internet, Land line, Bell Atlantic cel service, a real Full Kitchen, Spacious open living areas, and Modern conveniences.

The house is located in a unofficial vacation community. Several decent plots of land, small homes, and lots of land for sale suggest this area is just being discovered. There a few homes nearby, but nothing is unsightly or right on top of you. The sea is the main focal point and the home was built so you can appreciate it in all seasons.

The Antigonish general area is some of the best I saw in Nova Scotia, rivaling even Cape Breton highlands. If you a first timer, makes sure you take the coastal roads as the sea is a grand sight. Remember, grocery stores and most businesses are about 30mins away in Antigonish, so plan accordingly. Serious foodies should buy everything in Halifax (even Seafood) as most stores are for staples, not extravagance.

Once on property, the owners have provisioned the place well. They regularly visit so everything is well stocked and clean. Lots of comfy places to relax with a nice Whiskey.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this darling house in Nova Scotia. It was a week of beautiful sunsets, fun drives to see the sights and afternoons reading on the porch. After a very busy summer it was the perfect place to relax and just enjoy each other's company! Thank you Paul.

Where to start! The Home is simple gorgeous. Paul has designed the house to capture the maritime essence of the property, with windows and open spaces galore looking out over the Northumberland Straight. We spent the majority of our time in the Florida Room, reading, listening to music piped through the house-wide speaker system, enjoying the cool on-shore breezes, and counting the Seals, Whales, and Dolphins, as they cruised on by just off-shore. The flocks of Gannets rocketing from great heights into the ocean for fish, was something straight out of National Geographic, and soundeds like gunfire in the distance. Sunny, every day we were here, with the kind of Sunsets one would expect in Honolulu. As far as appointments are concerned, there’s a surplus of everything that you could ever need. Everything is new, sparkling, and fresh. The Egyptian cotton linens & monogrammed bedding and towels was a very nice touch! The water was calm, and warm enough that our two young children frolicked for hours on the shore. New kayaks allowed us to explore the a length of the coastline that’s normally inaccessible, hunting for driftwood pieces, seal colonies, and the most incredible array of rocks one is ever likely to see. Don’t know how we are going to get the 100lb we collected across the border! The location is ideal for day-trips to the Cabot Trail, Halifax, Bay of Fundy, or Parrsboro for Fossil Hunting. We found a 300 million year old reptile footprint! Best souvenir ever! Antigonish is a quick 15 minutes away, where you will find modern restaurants, provisions, and the vastly entertaining hordes of brawny men in Scottish Kilts strolling the town. Lastly, there’s Paul and his family. 100% warm, welcoming, generous, considerate, and incredibly friendly. The kind of people so nice, you want to come back just to see them again. This is without question our best VRBO experience ever. Our only regret is for tomorrow, when we head home to Michigan. Thank you for all the incredible memories. The Stewart Family.
