The barrier island where Barefoot Beach Resort is located is fortunate to have many locally owned establishments that are very popular with locals as well as tourists.
Whatever your tastes, you will find something you will love within a few miles of “Barefoot” - steaks, chops, French, Italian, Chinese, sushi, pizza, etc. Nevertheless, what tourists really are hungry for when they come to Florida is SEAFOOD! There are countless numbers of seafood restaurants all over this area.
Crabby Bill’s has very casual surroundings and indoor picnic tables plus an outdoor venue for the most relaxing seafood dining – great grouper sandwiches, shrimp any way you like it, oysters, etc. plus steaks and chicken dishes. Great prices, too. Only a few miles north.
Salt Rock Grill is right… next… door! Named one of the best seafood restaurants in the country. It’s a "do not miss", upscale dining experience with elegant surroundings that are exiting but not formal or "stuffy”. Daily specials and oysters from all over the country and the maritime provinces of Canada are featured.
Lobster Pot is another wonderful experience only a mile south of “Barefoot”. This is another of our favorites. Of course, lobster is a specialty but their other seafood dishes are mouthwateringly delicious, too! Lovely relaxing décor and great service are notable at the Lobster Pot.
The Friendly Fisherman located 15 minutes south, in famous John’s Pass Village, has the view, the fun, the FOOD. This long time favorite is on the John’s Pass boardwalk where you can watch the boats and the dolphins in the waterway. The Friendly Fisherman has something for every taste and is priced right for a family’s budget.
While relaxing in the white sand beaches of Indian Shores is a must, make shopping a part of your to do list. Enjoy the unique and creative atmosphere of our arts and craft shops and souvenir shops. If wine is your passion, you can visit The Florida Orange Grove Winery, which is just a few miles away.
If you feel more conservative and prefer to visit one of our local malls, Tyrone Mall and Ellenton Prime Outlets are for you. Whatever the case, we have something for everyone in the beautiful Town of Indian Shores.
However, our most important beautiful attraction is the pristine sand on the beach of the Gulf of Mexico

Dave & Brenda moved to Sarasota, FL for the gorgeous weather and outdoor living 7 years ago. We wanted to have a vacation place close to home for weekend get aways and purchased in the Barefoot Beach community 5 years ago. We have a small dog who travels with us quite a bit and a cat who prefers to stay at home. We are both self-employed and enjoy taking quick breaks when possible. We are adventurous travelers up for any location or activity.
We wanted a getaway close to home. There are miles of beaches, great attractions and activities, restaurants, and gorgeous sunsets.
We love eating at Salt Rock Grill next door, having a sunset picnic on the beach, watching the dolphins and manatees from our back porch, and lounging on the beach and by the pool.
