Photos and Description of the Chicago vacation cottage rental
2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-5)

Come visit Oak Park and stay at this lovely, newly renovated, family-friendly cottage. The 2 bedroom home has a comfortable king sized bed for parents next to a bedroom with two twin beds. Downstairs is a fully functional kitchen and dining room as well as an enclosed sun room that looks out on fenced-in backyard. The basement has a washer and dryer.

The home is located in a beautiful historic neighborhood of bungalows and Gunderson homes next to the musical Ascension church. Walk to coffee shops, parks, conservatory, library, swimming pool, grocery store, and restaurants. A one block walk brings you to the Oak Park CTA stop and a 20 minute ride into Chicago loop with museums and shopping and parks and theater.

Or, simply stay in Oak Park and visit the world-famous Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio. Walk to the historic Frank Lloyd Wright district and see the greatest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright homes.

Further Details: Walk the other direction to the Harrison Street Art District and shop for paintings, glass work, beading, and more. Walk west to the award-winning Circle Theater and have dinner at the many lovely restaurants nearby. Or, walk to the Marion Street Wine and Cheese Market and enjoy a local and sustainable dinner.

About The Owner: I am a work-at home mom with three children. We love to travel and frequently rent from vrbo. We love moving into a comfortable home in the heart of a community and exploring local life. We hope to offer the same joy to you by renting out the Yellow Cottage for your vacation. We live next door to the Yellow Cottage and I hope to be able to make your visit to Oak Park an enjoyable one.

We love Oak Park. We moved here for its diversity and its vibrant, child-friendly culture. We live next door to the lovely Yellow Cottage. I was raised in the Midwest in a simple yellow home that looks much like this Yellow Cottage.

This home will allow you to explore Chicago and Oak Park while living comfortably in a home away from home. As a mom, I understand that a good vacation is a comfortable bed and the ability to put good food in front of my children. If you stay at our cottage you will not be eating typical restaurant fare.

We have a grocery store that is just walking distance away and a Whole Foods that is a 5 minute drive away. You can serve healthy food to your family or take them, like I do to the Buzz Cafe (as seen in New York Times) for a good cup of coffee and simple, wholesome cafe food.

Great Oak Park Weekend

We stayed in the Yellow Cottage for 3 nights while we visited our son and his family, who live just a few blocks away. Obviously the location is perfect for us, but it would be ideal regardless of the reason for a Chicago visit. We didn't take the train into town on this trip, but it's just a few blocks away. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. The house is spotlessly clean and has everything you might need. Bed was extremely comfortable, with great pillows. My favorite spot was the back sunporch; unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of free time to take advantage of it, but it would be a great spot to read or catch a nap. We will definitely return!

Bright and cheery home

We spent three nights in this very comfortable home. The descriptions and photos were absolutely on target. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were Great. Wonderful having a garage to put the rental car in. Really enjoyed the movie selections of DVD's that were provided. Probably wasn't a good idea on our part to watch "The day After Tomorrow" right after hurricane Sandy.!! Similarities were eerie.
Loved being here for Halloween, we made our way through the Frank Lloyd Wright area which was a perfect backdrop for all the trick or treaters. Hemmingway Museum was also close by, but we didn't have the time. And taking the train into Chicago from Oak Park was very easy and saved us a fortune on parking which ranged from 20 to 30 dollars when we did use the car.
The owner was very helpful leaving us a list of all the activities that were happening in the area.
Plus she left a high chair and portable crib for us to use in case my grandson came to visit. But that didn't happen, however it was very kind of her.
Enjoy the Yellow Cottage, We did.

A wonderful home base away from home

We stayed here for a week as our summer break, visiting our friends and family in the area, and now we're not sure we can go back to staying in tiny hotel rooms in downtown Chicago again!

Two bedrooms are perfect for our family of three, with comfortable bedding and ample storage space. The living room is cozy and we enjoyed quite a few movies from the eclectic collection in the cottage. We started our days with coffee and breakfast in the spacious dining room before setting out on our adventures for the day. Good strong wi-fi service kept us in touch with our offices each morning, and having laundry in the basement was heaven - allowed us to pack light. We didn't enjoy the sun room and patio as much as we'd hoped to, but they did provide a nice quiet space for a few good minutes of reading and solitude.

Everything at the Yellow Cottage is clean, well maintained and homey, and we loved having our own "home" to come back to each night - with a secure, guaranteed parking garage that eliminated one hassle we always found staying downtown in Chicago - driving around looking for affordable parking! It's also convenient to the CTA el train - we walked there a once when we split up for the day, and it was just a few blocks' walk.

We enjoyed Chicago inside and out: Ravinia, Wrigley Field, Cubs game, Second City, bars, restaurants, and more. Also enjoyed Oak Park's restaurants and shops and saw a movie at the lovely Lake Theater.

The owners are wonderful and gracious hosts, and we had a nice chat with them in the yard one evening. They also left a terrific reference binder in the cottage that helped us find things in the neighborhood.

It was a wonderful experience and we hope to stay there again soon!

Wonderful Cottage, Home from Home and so Peaceful

We stayed at the Yellow Cottage for 10 days and like everyone else who has stayed here found it to be accurate charming and immaculate. It was spotlessly clean with all new top model appliances it was a joy to stay here. We had the best weather with the temps in the high 80's and low 90's. Having stayed in many Vrbo properties this is without a doubt the best one. It was so peaceful with the beautiful church across the street. Lara and LJ are the perfect hosts with all questions answered in advance and providing valuable information like the Cab Driver to collect you from the Airport which was wonderful as arriving into a strange city you are never sure getting into a strange cab so it was reassuring to arrive safely at the cottage.
Everything was within a 5 minute walk including the Grocery Store, Kinderhook Tap, Buzz Cafe and the fabulous ice cream shop across the street from the Frank Lloyd Wright house, a must! as well of course as Flw House!
We travelled without a car and purchased 7 day passes for the El from CVS as they don't sell them at the Oak Park station (which is a 2 min walk from the cottage) Cvs is a 5 min walk along the street from the station and is a must for unlimited travel in and out of Chicago and a bargain at $23!
Highlights for us include the Chicago Architectural Boat Tour , do this at 5.30 as it is wonderful to see the sun setting. The Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the Hancock Tower for a 360 degree view of the city, Navy Pier and too many restaurants to mention, however if you like Chinese you must visit Go4Food in Chinatown it was amazing and the best value. It has a Michelin review and the day we went it was packed out.
Being out all day and on the go it was so nice at night to come back and chill out, we were so lucky in being able to sit out at night and relax on the deck. Mu husband loved sitting in the morning on the front porch with his coffee catching the early sun.
Thank you Lara and LJ for sharing your wonderful home with us. We hope to return and have already passed on recommendations to several people we met in downtown chicago who were staying in cramped hotel rooms.

What a wonderful find. Our expectations were exceeded as the Little Yellow Cottage became our home away from home. Great location next to transportation, shopping and parks. My kids loved having the back yard and all the in-home toys. The beds were very comfortable and the house stayed nice and cool with the A/C and fans. Owners were available and helpful, although truly we needed nothing during our stay. It was all there for us. Thanks so much for making this available to us and we look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Chicago.

We came to Chicago for our daughters graduation and were extremely pleased with the Yellow Cottage. It was really nice to have a home to stay in that had everyting we needed for a weeks stay. The house was very clean and well kept and in a really great area. We would recommend this to others who are looking for a nice place to stay and vacation out of.

Beautiful home from home

After a long journey of 20+ hours we finally arrived at the Yellow Cottage – and what a delight it turned out to be; immaculately clean and very inviting.
It’s a simply decorated home that contains everything needed for a great base and quickly turned out to be a home from home for a family of 4 including adult children. The garage too was a welcome addition so the car is securely parked overnight.
The cottage has a nice outside sitting area but due to the unusually hot conditions of 104f was not used to the extent we would have liked. Evening time saw our first sight of fire-flies and if you haven’t seen them before they are particularly fascinating.
A short walk to the Blue line station and you’re in the heart of Chicago in minutes, a short walk up the street and you’re in Oak Park square where you’re greeted by an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants. Oak Park felt very safe to walk around, even at night and while not everyone will be staying there for the July 4 celebrations, the fireworks display was spectacular. It would have been nice to explore the area more on ‘foot’ but with the heat-wave that was not possible.
Owners Lara and LJ live next door and nothing is too much trouble for them. Any questions either before renting or during the stay are quickly answered and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting to them.
But as is often the case, our little slice of Oak Park heaven ended after an all too short 4 days. We plan on returning in the future and will definitely make Yellow Cottage the place to stay.

The Yellow Cottage in Oak Park, Illinois

We (3 adults) stayed in the Cottage for a week and highly recommend it. It's located in a pleasant neighborhood within walking distance of pubs & other services as well as the "El". In 25 minutes you can be in the Loop. The house is attractive, has a washer dryer, convenient kitchen, comfortable beds, flat screen TV, very clean & well maintained. The owners live very close and while we didn't need their help, they would have been accessible. A garage is available too. The listing & picture are accurate. This is a fabulous place to stay from which to enjoy Chicago.
