Ocean View Villa at Mauna Kea, April 2012

If I didn't have to leave the Villa I would have been just as happy. Between the view of Mauna Kea on the north and the Pacific Ocean Sunsets on the west, the luxury of natural ventilation with the open floor plan and disappearing glass doors, large suites and luxury master baths, especially my favorite, the ocean side shower with a view. We used the Amenity Center as well. The vacation location was the vacation, but if you could drag your self away, our favorite direction was north to Hawi along 270 Akoni Pule Hwy. Sightsee & eat in Hawi, continue on to the end of 270 to the Pololu Valley Lookout for the views of the cliffs and valley and a hike. Back track, get a nice coffee and make a left onto 250 Kohala Mountain Road and be prepared to see rainbows, volcano tops, ocean views, and finally decent into cattle country for a burger dinner in Waimea. Then back to the Villa!
We explored the entire Island, but my favorite was getting back to the outdoor living room and a dip in the jacuzzi under the stars. I could go on describing our favorite beaches, the Kona Coast ride, to the Volcanos National Park, to Hilo and all around, exploring beaches and waterfalls along the way.
When the clouds clear over Mauna Kea for a moment as you are relaxing for breakfast or dinner, keep your eyes peeled for the neighboring Island of Maui off the northern tip of The Big Island, you may not believe it at first, but you'll have all that and more as a treat.
