Wake to the Waves is Wonderful

This condo is a wonderful alternative for a relaxing vacation. The unit was very clean, well stocked with just about anything you could need, and the view was fantastic. The location is great - just north of lots of shops & restaurants - and the beach was fantastic. Cheryl is a great owner - excellent communication and very easy to deal with. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants a home away from home for vacation. South Padre is very laid back so relaxing is easy - you can be as busy or as low key as you want. The pool area is nice with plenty of chairs for laying in the sun. Parking was handy and I felt very safe there. The entire HomeAway organization is excellent, from my experience. I will be using it again - website is EASY to use and there is a "favorites" so you can browse and save the properties that you might be interested in for the future. This was one of my best vacations ever and I have Cheryl to thank for that!

I try very hard to provide a safe, clean and totally relaxing vacation spot for all my guests. Naturally due to weather, maintenance, and other unforeseen events, that is not always possible but I so enjoy hearing when someone enjoys my home as much as I've put my heart and soul into the property. In fact, I do hope you return for another vacation as since your visit, I've replaced the futon and put new patio furniture on the deck as I'm always trying to improve the experience for all my guests. Next will be new sliding glass doors and I value the suggestions that my guests provide during their stay.

If you are looking for a place with a spectacular view and close location to the beach this condo is it. The home was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and utensils and linens and towels are provided although we did bring our own. Bringing additional towels and beach towels is advised. The balcony provides a wonderful place to sit in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee as well as a view of the sunset. The king size bed was firm, which we liked however the futon in the living room was not very comfortable to sit and watch television but was not a problem because there is an additional tv in the bedroom. There is plenty of space to walk pets and an outdoor covered restaurant within walking distance where your dog is welcome too. The owner Cheryl was very helpful when we had questions or problems and definetly wanted to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We also would recommend take out from Gabriellas.. Italian food yummy and fast service. We had a nice time and would stay here again.

Family Beach Vacation gone bad

Yes the condo overlooks the beach and the deck is ample size but that was where the nice part of our vacation ended. The condo wasn't cleaned from the previous guest upon our arrival. The futon was horribly uncomfortable for our two young children. The other guests at the Tiki are pretty trashy. The beach area in front of the condo was super crowded with rude people. We were highly disappointed.

Birthday weekend

We were delighted to find the condo exactly as advertised on the website. Check in was easy and we had a parking place close to the walkway. The outstanding aspect of the condo is the proximity to the beach and the balcony that looks out at all the action. This was nice for my elderly mother as she didn't always feel like hanging on the beach. We will definitely book here again if the opportunity presents. I would rate it 4.5 stars.

The stay was incredible. The condo was clean and had everything we could have needed to have a confortable stay (i.e. kitchenery, bedding, towels, etc.) I didn't believe it at first, but yes...the beach is RIGHT outside the window and the view was amazing. We were able to see a couple of dolphins on our last monring there. There was a bar/restaraunt right next door for easy dining and the beach was significantly less crowded than other areas of the beach (where the hotels were). Loved it!

It Was Awesome!

Wake to the Waves was everything it promises to be. 15 feet above and about 80 feet from the water on the North end of South Padre Island. Clayton's is about 80 yards up the beach if you want to rock out at a beach bar, or the surf is fun to view and listen to from the balcony if you just want to kick back and relax. Bring your own beach towels, a hair dryer if you think you'll need one, and shower supplies as these are not provided. Everything else is. There is an oven, a microwave, a toaster, a blender, two TV's, and a nice comfortable bed. The sofa in the living room folds out to a futon, but we didn't try it out. This condo is up on the quieter end of the island but there's still plenty to see and do. The turtle rescue and bird sanctuary are right across the street. If you're a birder, as I am, this is a can't miss place. Drive down to Padre Island Brewing Co and have a blond or a pale made on site. The shrimp steamed in Pale Ale was wonderful and a full order of onion rings is too much for two. We had a great time and the condo was a tremendous value. We loved it. We want to go back! You'll love it too.

Great Christmas Getaway at Wake to the Waves

We got had just what we hoped for. We could hear the ocean and see the spectacular sunrise from our room. Everything was clean and well cared for. The photographs accurately reflected the condo, but photos don't do justice to the ocean and beach itself. Gorgeous!! We truly enjoyed our stay at Wake to the Waves and would come again, as well as recommend it to others. We especially enjoyed Dirty Al's restaurant. We also owe a special thanks to Dan at the island auto repair service. We had to have a wheel bearing replaced while we were in town. He did a great job and treated us very well. We hope to return in the future.

Great Location, end unit provides privacy. Beaufitul sunrise from outside balcony. Conda was clean and comfortable. Great beach to watch waves and will return.

The location and easy access to the beach was good. We were not so happy with the condo. We were under the impression of a few things that wasn't so: Such as we would have access to the internet but we didn't. There would be 2 beach chairs which there was but they were for a child so they were not useful. We couldn't take a hot shower due to the hot water came out rusty so we could only use cold. The only linen found for the futon in the living room was a mattress pad (no linen or blanket). There was no broom to sweep up the sand so sand was always getting in the bed.
Owner's Response: The complex has new wireless internet that at times can be spotty, but last I had heard it was working properly. Other guests have indicated that it could go down at times, but would notify the front office so they were aware of the issue so that it could be corrected quickly. I do know that due to the sturdy construction of the complex, improvements are continuously being made to prevent the interruption of service. Also the wireless internet in the office is the most efficient and reliable service.
Most rental properties do not provide beach chairs and while I believed the chairs were sufficient, they were provided mostly as a convenience for guests flying to the island. During season there are beach chair and umbrella rentals available directly on the beach. In the fall I will evaluate the need to provide other chairs.
Since the report of the water issue, I just learned that the water boiler/heater was destroyed and replaced in one day which probably caused the problem. Normally, you only need to run the hot water for 5 minutes or so for the line to clear and it is usually sediment, not rust. There should never be a need to only use cold water. The front office should be notified of any issues such as this so they can make repairs or inform guests of the repair status. Also my cleaning/maintenance crew phone number as well as my own are provided for such unexpected emergencies.
When requesting a quote, indicating the number in your party is important. While the linens should always be in the living room closet, during peak season they may not be replaced from the laundry if only 2 people are contracted guests. My cleaning crew also calls and/or visits on the second day to see if anything is needed and can be called as well if anything is missing.
There was a broom in the closet but it is possible that the cleaning crew accidently removed it. The beach area has a hose to remove the sand and there are 2 entry rugs to eliminate much of the sand prior to entering the condo.
As always, I want my guests to have an enjoyable and relaxing vacation at Wake to the Waves and make every effort to provide such an experience!

Relaxing Beach Getaway

We love the location right on the beach. Nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of crowded beaches near causeway. Great view of the ocean sunrise from living room and bedroom. Very pet-friendly location for our little dogs. Will definitely stay again.
