We stayed at the Spirit Trail River Cabin in August 2009. This was our first experience with renting a cabin. I was nervous that the cabin wouldn't resemble the pictures. I'm glad to say it far exceeded our expectations. Everything was clean. Very spacious with one bedroom downstairs plus a pull out couch & a second bedroom upstairs with twin beds and a futon at the top of the stairs. The river is at the bottom of quite a large hill so when you head down make sure you have everything you need with you. A nice place for swimming & fishing is just a 2 minute walk down the trail on the property. It was so nice to cut down on expenses by eating meals at the cabin. Very relaxing and very secluded. We passed other rental cabins on the same road that didn't have the privacy that we had. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. Quite a drive to get to town so get your groceries on the way in unless you plan on going to town anyway. I can't say enough good things about this place. By the way, Flotzies Ice Cream in Lurary is so good!

Great Getaway

Really enjoyable stay at a perfect riverside oasis. We have rented other weekend cabins in the area and Spirit River Trail is now at the top of our list. We look for getting value and what is advertised for the price. SRT offered all of that and then some. Lovely location, well maintained property, and all of the amenities we needed to get away and still maintain a modicum of connectivity.

If I had any suggestion, it would be to get a new coffeemaker. That's it. That's the list.

Owner was communicative, responsive, and honest. All we could ask for. We are looking forward to visiting again!

The best vacation ever!

We spent 9 days at Spirit River Trail Cabin...and it was the best vacation we have ever had. We had a very stressful year and wanted (and needed) a relaxing yet fun filled vacation away from it all! My daughter had never seen snow and the criteria for our vacation was; a cabin in the woods, if it didn't snow we wanted to be close enough to a resort that made snow and we wanted to be close to interesting things to see. Check, check and check! Not only was the cabin deep in the woods, but it was absolutely beautiful and the property is breathtaking! We were close to Massanutten Ski Resort and while we were there, it began to snow! The cabin got a couple of inches Christmas Eve and 5-6 inches the day after Christmas! It was an hour and a half drive from town to Washington DC where we saw parts of history that we had only read about or seen in a photograph. All vacation criteria met! The cabin itself is wonderful and Miss Anna and her husband were so accommodating to every need. What wonderful hosts! If you are wanting to be in the perfect location to relax, get away from it all yet be close enough to all kinds of activities and sights, then this is the place to be! We are already talking about next years vacation...at Spirit River Trail Cabin! We fell in love with the town of Luray and may have found our retirement location! All in all it was perfect and we were more than pleased!

Perfect Honeymoon

5 of 5
Submitted: October 26, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
If you are reading this review because you are considering renting this cabin, stop considering right now and just do it.

The pictures on this site do not give the cabin justice. This cabin is absolutely beautiful and incredibly comfortable. It gives the saying "home away from home" a new meaning.

After an almost nightmarish trip to the Outer Banks last fall, my husband and I were a bit comprehensive about going away on a honeymoon, but I am very glad we did. Our experience with this cabin was completely different, and all around wonderful. The owner, Anna, was more than accommodating. We were unwilling to travel anywhere without our pets, and having a pit bull and a cat, it isn't particularly easy to find a place that will allow either, let alone both, but Anna was perfectly fine with it from the start, and truly went above and beyond, providing an extra water bowl, towels, and even some treats for our dog, and offering to get us anything we needed for our cat.

If you are planning on travelling with your pets, this is a perfect place to do so. The yard was more than big enough for our dog to get in her daily exercise, and our cat especially loved the big, numerous windows and the loft.

The only downside to this cabin is that it's so comfortable and serene, it almost makes it hard to want to leave and explore the town, which is breathtaking. We were there for five days and didn't get to do everything we wanted, there was so much. Every restaurant we went to in town was delicious and reasonably priced, especially the Gathering Grounds, which Anna suggested to us.

My husband and I are already contemplating a return trip for our first anniversary, and would love to stay in this cabin again. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful but fun-filled trip, and that five days simply did not feel like enough time.

Spirit Trail creates the best of both worlds

Secluded and nestled among the trees, Spirit Trail is an immaculate and welcoming cabin that offers all the comforts of home while embracing you with all of nature's majesty. The owners have taken care to offer a clean and comfortable space to enjoy which includes a fully functional kitchen (with microwave & dishwasher) as well as a deluxe gas grill on the deck and wi-fi. Unwind by relaxing on the deck and feeling as though you are nested in a tree house, or sit riverside and enjoy melting into the scenery. Activities include hiking on the property or on near-by trails, canoeing down the Shenandoah as well as local attractions such as caverns and scenic drives. If you're looking for the perfect place to unplug while refilling your spiritual fuel tank, Spirit Trail creates the best of both worlds.

Quiet, Neat and Delightfull Sprit River Cabin!

Submitted: September 7, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
My wife and I visited SPRIT RIVER CABIN on August 24th to August 31st 2012 we were quite taken in with the cozy cabins charm.

A neat and clean spacoius split level 2 Br cabin at the very foot of Massanuttin Mountain and on the banks of the Historic Shenandoah River.

The back porch has a closed in portion and is great to enjoy breakfast or listening to the raindrops.
The open portion is great for viewing the Wild Deer, Pheasant, Turkey's, Rabbits and Squirrels hustle about, we watch them in aw!

Also, a nice gas gril for grilling, was easy to start!
The TV was large and easily viewable from all parts of the kitchen, dining rm. and living rm.
Sofa and Rocker were both comfortable too.

We came to see the sites and we did just that!
The Caverns of the area, The Blue Ridge Mountains- SKY LINE DRIVE and particularly THRONTONS GAP hike to MARY'S ROCK was absolutly breathtakenly beautifull!

When the day was finished, it sure was so nice to return to this neat little place, cook dinner and just sit back and enjoy the Peace and the Quite that is this beautiful place.

I can say this " We had a Wonderfull Vacation at "Sprit River Cabin" and we won't soon forget our stay here,
I reccomend it to all!

*Just a little extra tidbit about this beautifull place, If you are a History Buff as am I, It was the Army of the Valley that camped directly across the river out back in May of 1862 for two nights near the railway bridge that spans the creek that flows into the Shenandoah- just wow! *Private Property of course.......

FAMILY REUNION WITH ALL THE EXTRAS!!

5 of 5
Submitted: August 9, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Our family all met up at the cabin for vacation this year for 9 days and it was FANTASTIC! The location is beautiful and quiet. The river is close and inviting. The cabin is immaculate - the smell of cedar hits you immediately upon entry and our family really enjoyed the back porch and deck. The owner, Anna, is amazing, sweet and accommodating and the price.. PHENOMENAL!!! In a time of recession, Ms. Anna has lowered her rental, doing her part to ensure that families can still afford an awesome mountain river vacation. Loved the fact there was internet access (so my husband could post on his blog at night and my daughter could skype with her boyfriend at night). We played cards, tubed, relaxed in the lovely whirlpool tub for two and had all the conveniences of home including a washer/dryer and a dishwasher. I cannot say enough good things! Thank you to Ms. Anna for a memorable vacation that ended far too soon (she says as she writes her review from the office *sigh*).

Excellent Cabin on the River

5 of 5
Submitted: May 14, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
We just returned from a weekend stay at the Spirit Trail River cabin and really enjoyed ourselves. The owner was responsive during the booking process, and the cabin was clean and well-maintained and prepared for our arrival. There is a nice-size kitchen, modern amenities (satellite, internet, etc), and the cabin comfortably sleeps six. The area down by the river was a highlight. There is a large mowed area and a picnic table/firepit. We really appreciated the attention to detail to make our stay even more convenient, like the covered pile of firewood and the lawn chairs that were supplied, as well as the range of games and books available to pass the time. We also appreciated the huge grill on the back deck, which we made the most of.

It takes a while to make the drive out to this cabin, so to maximize your stay I would suggest stocking up at the grocery store before the initial arrival. Also, while there are adequate kitchen supplies, the range and quality of pots, pans, and other kitchen implements is limited (as one might expect for shared items in a cabin such as this), so if you need anything specialized, you should bring that yourself. Otherwise this is a great place for a relaxing getaway.

Spirit Trail Cabin

What a beautiful cabin! Very private setting with short walk down to the Shenandoah river. The cabin was very clean upon arrival and aside from bringing groceries, had everything you'll need. Though I had no cell service (Verizon Wireless), there is wifi available but the peace and quiet was much needed. My lab loved the fenced in area and of course exploring on the trails and the river. Thought it was a nice touch that the owner leaves clean towels for the "dog" and a dog dish (in case you forgot to bring one). It's basically a very comfortable home away from home. The washer and dryer was great to wash all your laundry before your departure. We truly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning for another visit. Thanks Anna for sharing your wonderful cabin. :)

Charming and relaxing

My husband, daughter (13) and I stayed here for 5 nights in early August. The cabin is as lovely as pictured, with a great front porch, rear screened porch and backyard deck. The property is extensive and fun to explore, all the way down the forty-two steps to the small meadow and river. We went out daily to visit the sights (Shenandoah Caverns, Shenandoah Winery, Luray Zoo, Skyline Drive - all recommended) and tried to get home by around 3 or 4 each afternoon to go out and sit on a little island in the river. We don't fish, but certainly enjoyed the peace and quiet of the river flowing by. The "cabin" is more of a cottage or small house, very well-appointed and spotless. The upstairs loft has twin beds with a half-bath, and downstairs there is a large garden-type whirlpool tub and separate shower in one room, with another half-bath just next door. We cooked dinner every night and ate outside on the porch. We preferred to stay home at night to enjoy the sounds and sights of nature. As others have stated, the cabin is away from town (30-40 minutes) and the road is long and winding with lots of interesting things to see. We are from Florida (T-Mobile cell phone) which did not work at all - not even in town. We purchased an ATT phone card at Walmart which worked well. I was happy not to have internet service, and we never even turned on the large TV. We would definitely be interested in staying here again if we travel back up to Luray. Thank you for a great time, Anna!
