Awesome!

I rented the Albion Schoolhouse for a birthday weekend with friends -- it was perfect! The house is so unique and peaceful. We had a great time making breakfast and dinner, sitting on the deck with coffee or a mimosa, and rocking out with the instruments and sound system in the library. Also, the rain-style showers are amazing. Everyone in my group commented that the house was even more picturesque than the photos and exceeded their expectations. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a unique rental in the Mendocino area. The only downside is that you may not be ready to leave! :-)

Amazing experience!

My family of six thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Old Albion School House! Even after reading the description on the website, we didn't REALLY believe that it would live up to our expectations. To our delight, the Schoolhouse exceeded them! Highlights for us included:
- sunsets with champagne at the bar (yes, EXACTLY like the picture)
- piling into the master bedroom to watch the 2012 Olympics
- a trip up the Albion River in our complimentary canoe - thanks for that recommendation, very pretty!
- making a scrumptious meals in the gourmet kitchen and eating family style at the big table
- sitting on the deck with an adorable cat at our feet (if you see her tell her hi)
- cycling to the Pygmy Forest, then into Mendocino... so close!
- cozying up with a book or ten in the library/auditorium while sneaking glances at the stage where legendary producer Bill Botrell gave direction to some of my favorite artists
We will be back... soon!

Loved the feel of the Schoolhouse and amazing sunsets from the kitchen windows

We had an awesome time at the Albion Schoolhouse. We rented the house for 3 nights. The kitchen was great, eating dinners and watching fantastic sunsets over the pacific ocean. The unit was clean and well stocked, and the decor was fun, with the old school feel. We were fortunate enough to have wonderful weather and the decks provided extra area to enjoy the outdoors. From this location we enjoyed what the Mendocino coast has to offer, and spent time Kayaking up the Albion and Noyo rivers. On our last evening we celebrated a 50th birthday with a catered sit down dinner for 26. We hired a 3 piece band who were great and they said the acoustics were great in the auditorium. We did not want to leave the next morning, (even asked if they were interested in selling.) The feel of the schoolhouse is peaceful and fun. Will rent again in the future.

Comfortable and home-like

Talk about friendly management, great location, and all the comforts of home! Who would expect well-seasoned cast iron, le Creuset,and Wusthof in the kitchen? What a pleasure it was to cook and enjoy near by outdoor adventures. Just out of earshot of CA 1, this house is poised to be a great launching place to spend a day at the beach, a stroll through the pigmy forest, or meander through redwoods to Mendocino's wine country. The house has high ceilings, hardwood floors, and comfortable beds and sofas. No one in our party was disappointed.

Perfect place to get married - especially for under 75 guests

We rented the schoolhouse in April 2012 to host both our Welcome BBQ/Rehearsal Dinner and our wedding ceremony/reception. It was a perfect and magical place to get married. The setting is just stunningly beautiful (inside and out). There was just enough room to host our 72 guests to a lovely and intimate dinner in one room of the house, then we moved to the other two rooms for dancing and drinks. What was also really perfect was the separation of the rooms - for guests who wanted to dance, there was a lively party in the auditorium. For guests who wanted to talk and hang out, there was peace and (relative) quiet in the room where we set up the bar. This made for a great party where people (I think) stayed longer and enjoyed themselves more because they could relax and do what they wanted to do. Overall, the schoolhouse provided a unique and intimate space to have a wonderful party and to celebrate the start of a marriage! albion schoolhouse rocks

My children and grandchildren met here for our annual President’s Day weekend gathering. This was the perfect house for us as it has natural zones of quietude and social space. The highlight of the weekend was the grandchldren’s show on the stage using real stage lights and amplification. I will never forget the duets, piano solos and the 5 year old rendidtion of “ I love rock and roll”. The owner was super accomodating and the welcome basket was beautiful. We will be coming back—the house was loved by all.

wonderfull rental!!!!!!! we threw my wifes 30th birthday party here and had a great time. the owners were super easy to get along with as well as were very attentive to our needs offering many great services all our guests had a great time.magical space with lots of history would definatley throw another event here

Loved our stay at the Old Albion School

Happily, the photos and descriptions of the Old Albion School on VRBO give a truly accurate feel for the place, but we found even more sweet surprises when we arrived. The place has an amazing vibe – old school character combined with the energy of artists and musicians, not to mention Laura's personal, warm welcome, and touches like fresh flowers. Everything is spacious and warm. The kitchen is well equipped to cook for a crowd and we all fit easily around the large table for meals or games. We relished having our own library, dance floor and stage!
It's comfortable enough to forget about going out, but it's just a short walk (down a steep road) to the river and cove that spill into the ocean, and Mendocino is a quick drive up Highway 1, so there's lots to do. Topping off our stay were ballroom dancing lessons from Laura at the schoolhouse and a half-day paddle with canoe rentals from Catch-a-Canoe, plus walks and hikes.
We arrived via Hwy 101 & 128 from the Bay Area. To head back to Oregon, we went north on Highway 1, which is just beautiful but because of the many narrow spots and sharp turns, much slower than Google Maps would have you believe.
We will definitely come back for another stay!
