We stayed at Casa papaya con leche over the holidays with another couple that were looking to get away for NYE. From the start of finding the property, Mary at Beach Grass Rentals was beyond helpful. She helped us understand the surrounding areas and what to expect and also helped us set up some excursions while we were there. This really put me at ease that the property would probably be pretty nice as well.
We arrived at night, but it was a full moon out and you could see the crashing ocean perfectly right from the wrap around balcony. Mary was there to greet us and give us a tour of the house. The house was just what we were expecting and there was an abundance of towels & kitchen appliances to make our stay comfortable. Staying at Casa Papaya is much different from your typical vacation in a resort town. Rancho Playa Negra, the property that the house is on, is very secluded and tourist shops don't exist here. If you are looking for that type of vacation, stay north a bit in Tamarindo. This was a quiet, tranquil piece of land with great private beach access.
The security guards roaming the property and our alarm system made us feel safe at all times. We didn't have one problem while staying there and the people in Playa Negra are all very friendly. I would highly recommend staying at this house if you are in need of a private, and relaxing vacation.

Great Place, Great Location

My wife and I, along with another couple, just spent a week (3/10 - 3/17/2012) at Casa Papaya Con Leche. What a great house in a beautiful location!
One of our concerns heading there was there was only one bathroom. However, with the outside shower, the four of us made it work.
The house is nicely equipped and furnished.
Mary of Beachgrass rentals is a pleasure to work with.
The location in Rancho Playa Negra is quiet and very private. The beach in front of the house is very rocky but great for tidepools and even some snorkeling at low tide. It is just a very short and pleasant walk to the Hotel Playa Negra and their beach. Good food and great place to hang out at the the beach. Playa Avenella and Lola's is only three (3) miles (5 Ks) away with an awesome surf break! And a little further South is Playa Janquanillal. The day we were there, it was the four of us and another group of 3 couples (6 people) on the entire beach! WE LOVED IT!
One day we road to Tamarindo to do the "tourist" thing, the Catamaran Sunset Booze Cruise on the Marlin Del Rey. It was great fun. Did the souvenir shopping in Tamarindo so got that over with. On our way to Tamarindo, we did stop at the JW Marriott. While truly a beautiful property with a gorgeous pool, I was very happy we were at our very private and secluded Casa Papaya con Leche.
We had also wondered about the name, Papaya con Leche. We found out the meaning quite by accident. One morning, after a nice run to Playa Avellena and back (a 6k run) I made a smoothy of some fresh Papaya. Our milk had frozen, so I threw it in the blender with a little OJ and some pineapple. The color of the Papaya and Milk (Papaya con Leche) matched the paint color of the house Exactly! Oh yea, the smoothy was great! : )
Some recomendations for the owner...some beach chairs would be nice and some hammocks on the porch would be wonderful! Otherwise, the place is pretty perfect for a small group. Enjoy and Pura Vida!
