The condo is lovely, new furniture and appliances. The bed is oh so comfy!! We had a great time on AMI, your condo is in a good location to the water and shops. We have spent 3 vacations on the AMI in the past 6 years. We have rented condos each time. The small complex your condo is located, with the heated pool, is wonderful. And, like others say on this website, the wine and fruit bowl are an added touch and very welcoming after a long drive. Having said all the wonderful things about your condo, I do have a couple of issues. I knew up front that there was a reservation fee, which at the time, I did not like, and I also knew up front that there was an insurance fee, also something I did not like. When we have rented beach houses and condos across this state of Florida over the last 30 years, we have never had to pay for a reservation fee, nor have we had to pay for insurance. Owners have asked for a deposit higher than your insurance to hold the rental, after check out, if nothing has been damaged, our deposit is returned, in full. We have ALWAYS gotten our deposit returned. The other issue I have is that you have posted on the fridge that we must sweep the sand out, wash all dishes and put away AND do laundry of all towels used. The washer and dryer are coin operated. Towels takes 2 loads to dry. Sweeping out sand is not a major issue as we swept out the sand almost daily, but having to do laundry on our last day of vacation and having to PAY for it, ended our lovely vacation on a sour note. When the VRBO website said washer and dryer, we expected just that, instead we found a laundry room with coin operated appliances. I think that should be mentioned on the website. As I said, we have stayed at many beach houses and condos and when a washer and dryer is listed, it is in the unit and we do not have to pay to use them. Charging UNUSED insurance is also dishearteneing, and paying for the privilege of a reservation doesn't sit well with us either. We will pay closer attention to listings or at least ask the owner re laundry facilities and what is expected of us as a paying guest. And we will not rent from an owner that charges for a reservation and insurance. Lesson learned!
Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review of our condo and what we do for our guests. All of the 42 current reviews (there are many more not posted) affirm what you have clearly enunciated in the first half of your review. The second half of your review has many untruths that you have negatively embellished. Firstly, as you say, you knew going in that there is a minimal insurance fee (for your protection against damages) and a minimal reservation fee for the people who manage our reservations, check people in, check people out, etc. You would prefer a refundable deposit fee, for you have done this in the past. All other prior quests have had no problem with the way we handle the logistics of renting our condo. How would you propose we attempt to please all the people prior to you and in addition to you as far as how we make our reservations? We have chosen to complete our reservations as we do and you knew this from the first contact with me – nothing was hidden. Your assessment as to how we ask a guest to leave the condo is not true. We ask our quest to strip the sheets off of the bed and place the used towels in a pile. We ask our guests to remove everything from the refrigerator and throw it away or take it with you – is this too much to ask? Our final request is to place dirty dishes is the dishwasher and clean them. Not sure why this is such an effort for you but evidently it was. We could have pleased you and all of your grievances by charging a significant housekeeping fee, as most other condos do, but then we would ONLY be pleasing you and not ALL of our previous guests. We don’t charge this in an attempt to keep our fees down. We actually clean the place ourselves and do a much better job than a cleaning crew so you as a guest have a very clean residence while staying in our condo – but you have obviously looked beyond this issue that sets our condo above others – its cleanliness. Finally, Mike Norman Realty manages our unit. They are a major agency on Anna Maria Island and have the same reservation standards as we because they suggested them to us. If you come to Anna Maria Island in the future you will likely have these same reservation standards anywhere you stay. We will do just about ANYTHING for our guests if asked – never heard a word from you until you left! Our entire guest list, except you, has been very pleased with Palm Cay #7. I wish you a peaceful life!!
