A little over five years ago, we started a complete renovation of this lakeside home to do better justice to its gorgeous lakeside setting. First we gutted the interior and stripped the house right down to the studs. Then we replaced and rebuilt everything using the newest state-of-the-art materials and systems available.

No expense was spared in its design and construction to make this the most modern and comfortable house in the North Country. You can relax in one of the two living rooms and prepare your meals in one of the two kitchens, either on the main level or on the lake level. There are even two sets of washer/dryers, one for each floor. The house is air conditioned for your comfort in the summer. The result? This may be most luxurious and most meticulously furnished vacation home on Lake Champlain.

THE SETTING...

'Lost Lodge' sits right on Lake Champlain with breathtaking views of the Vermont mountains. The house itself is set 300 feet back from a quiet dead end street. The property slopes down to the beach, which is remarkably like a pool: the lake bottom here consists of large flat plates of stone that make it easy to just walk right into the lake in summer. In the winter, when the lake is frozen, you can ski right out for the best cross country skiing imaginable.

Our home has a mooring just fifty feet from the shore, and the town boat ramp is just a half-mile north of the house. The City of Plattsburgh is 5 miles up the road and you can drive to downtown Montreal in exactly 1 hour. Whiteface Mountain and Lake Placid are also an hour away. Whether you're here spring, summer, fall or winter, you will be close to everything you might want to do; from swimming to skiing, from kayaking to snowmobiling.

THE TWO LIVING ROOMS...

The vaulted living area on the main level is an open plan, with plenty of room for entertaining. You'll marvel at the 14 foot vaulted ceiling and french doors overlooking the lake. You'll have a 42 inch High Definition Plasma TV with DirecTV for those nights when you just want to relax. There is a thermostatically controlled gas fireplace in the living room; no need to haul firewood in the winter. The second living area on the lake level also has its own gas fireplace, a 42 inch flat screen TV with hi-def cable service and a fully restored Kroeger quarter grand piano.

THE TWO KITCHENS...

The main level kitchen is the envy of any gourmet chef: The refrigerator/freezer, convection oven, dishwasher and range-top are all stainless steel Kitchen Aid Architect Series. The 33-bottle wine cooler is GE Profile. The stackable Washer/Dryer in the hall is top-of-the-line Frigidaire. The second kitchen on the lake level is a fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances including separate Washer/Dryer, and a dining table that will seat up to six.

THE FOUR MASTER BEDROOMS...

Each of the four bedrooms is a master suite, with its own in-suite private bathroom; no one will have to dress to get to their own bathroom. Three of the bedrooms have queen beds and the fourth bedroom has two twin beds. All four bedrooms have flat screen TV's with DVD players.

My wife Sharon comes originally from Montreal, and I'm from Long Island. We settled in the New York Metro area but have been coming up here for many years to visit Sharon's family. We now run a vacation rental business in Key West with about 55 homes, and use this home in the Spring and Fall.

Why Chris chose Plattsburgh

Sharon always wanted a home on Lake Champlain.When we purchased this home, we thought we would be spending summers here ourselves, but ironically, our vacation rental business in Key West has grown so much, we have been unable to spend much time up here. We decided to offer the home for vacation rental during the summer. We still make it up here in spring and fall.

Beautifual House Right on Lake Champlain

Our group spent a week at this lovely house in the middle of July. The house is extremely comfortable, and big enough so that you don't feel like you're on top of each other. The bedrooms are all a good size, and each has a nicely appointed bathroom. The entire house is beautifully decorated and the kitchens are extremely well stocked with everything you'll need to prepare meals. We brought up our two large dogs and they loved the huge back lawn leading right into the lake. The grounds are nicely maintained, and the house was exceptionally clean when we arrived. This house is also very convenient for day trips to Burlington (we went to Ben & Jerry's too) and Montreal - both are about an hour. Ausable Chasm is right down the street and was breathtaking, and less than a mile away is a Marina where we rented a boat one day (we also noticed Kayak rentals, but we didn't do that). I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking to spend a week or two at the lake. We hope to go back soon. Thanks Chris & Sharon!

2 Families in the Summer

We stayed at Lost Lodge for a week in the summer along with my sisters family. 4 parents with 4 kids all under 5 and we found the house absolutely perfect. It has so much space and the layout of the rooms means that you can have 2 seperate areas to keep your own space but a lovely large communal living area and deck for evening meals / BBQ's. All the bedrooms are lovely with so much detail put into their restoration. Bathrooms are great with 2 showers upstairs and a bath and shower in the ones downstairs. Don't take anything with you to the house as absolutely everything is provided and the kitchen is stocked to bursting point. Teri was great in getting high chairs and plates for the little kids and was really helpful when we arrived. Grab a pontoon boat from the Marina 1/2 mile down the road and go over to spend a day relaxing on Valcour island directly opposite the house, BBQ, sandy beaches warm water and cold beers, perfect! Would highly recommend.

What a beautiful home! The furnishings, fully stocked kitchens, comfortable seating on both levels, beautiful deck - wonderful place for a family vacation with adults as there are separate suites (4 bedrooms - each with a full bathroom) - private with 2 large gathering areas (1 on each level) - kitchen on each level!

Only 1 concern - not a good place if you have cat allergies! Did not think to ask about this before we arrived.... Our oversight!

Owners & staff - very helpful, accommodating, courteous. We made many wonerdul family memories. Thank you, Chris, Sharon, and Terri!
Owner's Response: If you or anyone else in your group have allergies, please be sure to tell us! If we know in advance, we can take the time to do a deep clean of the rugs and upholstery to make sure virtually all of the dander is eliminated.

Spectacular Late Fall Visit!

We had a geat time enjoying this beautiful home. Our party was 8 to 10 people, there was ample space for everyone. The kitchen was fun to cook in, well supplied with high quality cookware. Early morning sunrise over the lake was spectacular. A truly unique setting.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers
Owner's Response: We love to cook, too. So a great kitchen with great cookware has always been important to us. The sun rising over the lake is very special, and star gazing on a moonless night is also something to remember, with the Milky Way spread across the sky like a carpet of light.

We were so pleased with the rental of your Plattsburgh home. While you had described it well, we were pleasantly surprised to see the quality evident in the structure, the design, the decoration, the bedding, and the equipment. It didn't feel like a rental. It felt like you had loaned us your home. Everything functioned well. We used the TV, Internet, DVD player and all the kitchen equipment - including the recipe books!

It was a great place to spend our Christmas holiday.

We will definitely keep your rentals in mind our next trip to the Keys.

What a lovely house! We stayed here for two weeks and immediately felt at home. There was NOTHING we needed that the house (really Sharon and Chris) didn't provide. The owners are incredibly gracious and as a result, these two weeks were a great getaway. Even with some bad weather, we could relax, read, watch the lake, or visit Montreal with ease.

Our Family stayed here over the new year break and
we loved it! The house is beautiful and spacious,
with plenty of room for the 6 adults and 2 kids.
Sharon did an excellent job decorating and made it
feel very cozy. There is an excellent selection of
books and great views to help make the reading
that much more relaxing. We arrived with plenty of
"outdoor" plans but felt so comfortable we enjoyed
our time together inside and got caught up on
family time. Enjoy your stay!
