This has been a family residence of my parents since 1943.

What makes this house unique

I have summered here for all my life. My family came here every August from Long Island, New York. I remember the excitement arriving every summer, swimming at long pond, eating lobster, going to Jordan Pond, and hiking throughout Acadia's trails with my family and other relatives.

Great vacation house with ease access to everything on the island

My husband and I spent two weeks at this cozy, spacious house in August. We had friends visit one weekend so we had up to 4 people in the house. I would highly recommend this house to any group ranging from 2 to 6 adults. It was very clean and had all the amenities of home (full kitchen, outdoor grill, comfortable bed) plus the benefits of cottage living (private beach, large deck and outdoor fire pit overlooking bass harbor). We only had one rain day during our time there but we spent that entire day at the house playing games, reading books, and watching the boats travel the bay- very relaxing!! We managed to stay away from the TV for the first 8 days but finally gave in on day 9 and watched the news and the house has Netflix so we watched a movie one evening too.
We were primarily there to hike and we drove to our hiking destinations each day but there is an Island Hopper bus stop right at the end of the street that can take you anywhere on the island.
The owner was there when we arrived to greet us and show us the house. I see other comments about that experience but we personally liked that attention. She gave us great recommendations on things to do, restaurants, etc and was promptly on her way. We didn't find it imposing.
Again I would highly recommend MDI as a vacation destination and this house as a home for your time there. We already have our 2013 weeks booked!!

My husband and, I along with another couple, really enjoyed our stay here. This cabin was true to the Maine lifestyle and was everything we were looking for in a cabin. It was in a perfect, quiet, secluded area with our own private oceanfront access. Our only issue was that the owner made us arrive there at a certain time to pick up the key, and we could not leave until the house was inspected. Had I know this before I booked and paid in full, we could have planned accordingly because we had to drive all the way from Portland which was a 3 hour drive. Unfortunately, because of that we did not get to do all the things we wanted. Even with the inconvenience of having to meet with the owner on arrival and departure, I would still recommend this cabin to a friend.
