JUNE/JULY SPECIAL!! BUY 2 WEEKS, GET 1 FREE! OR CHOOSE TO PAY YOUR OWN UTILITIES TO RENT ONE WEEK, GET ONE WEEK FREE! Lofty Sights is a spacious 3 1/2 story home built in 2010 on a double lot located in a quiet area away from the highly trafficked main road. Caribbean Sea lot a short bicycle ride away, and lagoon front lot contiguous to the rental are owned by Lofty Sights and allow you the added bonus of beaches without the additional cost! Visit the waterfront lots as often as you like and swim in the sea, fish, or simply relax and enjoy the breezes and waves. Return to Lofty Sights for peace and serenity away from the traffic noise on the main paved road. Ascend the spiral staircase to the loft and partake of a romantic dinner or cocktail using the bar height table and swivel chairs while watching the sun set behind the Maya Mountains across the Placencia Lagoon. After sunset a multitude of stars appears as the sky darkens.

Natural beauty: Hummingbirds, parrots, parakeets, orioles, pelicans, egrets and many more species are often seen and heard. Iguanas walk across the yard which has been left primarily ''au naturale'' to allow indigenous plants such as seagrape and oak trees, mangroves, and wildlife, to thrive. Small garden areas are being cultivated for herbs and fruit and nut trees including bananas, coconut palms, almonds, passion fruit, mulberry bushes and basil. Fully equipped kitchen provides all you need to prepare your favorite meals. If you prefer eating out, there are several excellent restaurants within a few minutes walking distance. Privacy and security are unique features of this home. Unlike most tropical homes on which the stairs to the entry door are exposed, the stairs at Lofty Sights to reach the main level are enclosed inside the ground level cement room providing you with an extra level of security. There are just a few homes in the area so you will feel the openness.

Quiet area away from busy paved road: A leisurely breakfast or lunch on the loft porch is accompanied by sparkling Placencia lagoon waters and a variety of colorful tropical birds warbling their tunes. Most rentals in Maya Beach are located next to the noisy traffic on the only paved road that connects the peninsula to the mainland. Not so for Lofty Sights, which is on a quiet street and backs up to a canal that leads to the lagoon so there is no ''back neighbor.'' Cable TV provides for entertainment on rare inclement weather days. Belizean hardwood floors throughout add to the charm of this extraordinary home. 4 separate A/C units, 1 in each bedroom, 1 unit in the ''great room'' (family room, kitchen, dining) and 1 in loft. Activities galore: Belizean made wicker sofa, loveseat, footrests, rockers and reclining chaise lounges give you many choices when relaxing with a good book or taking a siesta. The open floor plan provides many separate areas while preserving the feeling of space. A perfect place for a family or group

A great jumping off point to engage in many activities including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, snorkeling, diving, hiking, ziplining, exploring Mayan ruins, birdwatching, beachwalking, a swim the Caribbean Sea, stargazing and other fun pursuits. The only bowling alley in the entire country of Belize is in Maya Beach. Several fine restaurants are within walking distance, as are grocery stores and resorts offering tour arrangements. Visit Lofty Sights sea and lagoon front lot!

We stayed at this house over spring break this year and I must say that for all the VRBO success we have had over the years this one was our first big disappointment. The lengthy description just doesn’t match what was offered. The house is fairly large, however the layout is very inefficient and not well maintained. We had many issues with AC controls, unit turned on in the middle of the night in the kids’ room and could not be turned off, dead batteries. The loft AC didn’t work at all. The master toilet leaked at the base. Hot water was intermittent. Water pressure is low. The stove is similar to a camping stove and needs to be lit with a match (wife hates that), which was in short supply, and no oven. The beds are small, stiff and uncomfortable, the “Belizean wicker” is cheap. Window shades are cheap and rolled up by hand, held by a strap. When it rains, the gutters leak so you get an annoying drip on the metal roof that never seems to end, right above the bedroom. There was no kayak available as advertised. Had no instructions on the beach front lots, so no clue where they are. We had to have an appointment to meet someone in order to get the keys, kind of tough to know when I would arrive since I was driving, then later I found the keys by accident under the welcome mat – great security! No light by the door, so bring a flashlight. The only instructions are how to change a bunch of water valves to get the water to work, which you need to do twice a day. I could go on and on, but you probably get the point, I won’t be staying here again.
Owner's Response: The house is fairly large, however the layout is very inefficient and not well maintained.
Matter of preference, we are very happy with the layout. As to maintenance, Unlike more developed countries, there is not skilled help at our disposal to send and correct problems without supervision. Our experience is that the work is not done right, or worst case makes things worse. We fix issues and maintain the property mostly ourselves when we are in country. Most recently we worked on wiring, outdoor garbage enclosure and painting.

We had many issues with AC controls, unit turned on in the middle of the night in the kids’ room and could not be turned off, dead batteries.
We have voltage fluctuation protectors on the ac units because voltages can drop too low and damage electronic equipment. Apparently the unit was on earlier but the voltage protector kept it from running until voltages were normalized during the night. As to being unable to turn off the unit due to dead batteries, we change them each time we are in country which is usually twice a year. I am not certain that was the problem.

The loft AC didn’t work at all.
it worked fine when we arrived in April. This may have to do with the voltage protectors.

The master toilet leaked at the base.
We investigated this issue in April when we arrived in country. We discovered that the pipe that connects from the shower that is supposed to drain the pan is not angled enough. When the shower is run for too long, the water backs up and seeps out near the toilet. Unlike more developed countries, there is not skilled help at our disposal to send and correct problems without supervision. Our experience is that the work is not done right, or worst case makes things worse. We fix issues ourselves and this is on the list for our next visit.

Hot water was intermittent. Water pressure is low.
we have instant hot water heater. When water pressure is low, the instant hot water heater cannot function properly. Water pressure is beyond our control. the hot water heater works perfectly when pressure is right.

The stove is similar to a camping stove and needs to be lit with a match wife hates that, which was in short supply, and no oven.
the stove is a 4 burner gas cooktop, which is lighted with either matches or a spark tool. The tool was in the drawer with cooking utensils. There is no standard oven; there is a small countertop oven.

We were blessed to spend a week at this home in Palencia, Belize. It was without a doubt one of the most relaxing weeks I have spent in years. The house was very comfortable and "homey." I sat on the porch during the day enjoying the tropical breezes and reading. And the sunsets at night were spectular. 100 feet away was the bay where my husband fished and I floated. A ten minute walk took me to the beautiful Carribean beaches. I got spoiled eating all the fresh fruit, vegatables, and fish. There is nothing better. We are counting the days till we can go back. I can't recommend the Dufresne's home enough.
