SIMPLY THE BEST UNIT AT KEPUHI BEACH RESORT
Aloha. We stayed a full week and were treated to large waves, wide beaches, gorgeous sunsets, and swaying palm trees (watch out for coconuts). Two things caught my eye which turned out to be right on: Closest to the beach and hearing the waves crashing day and night. There are lots of paths to the beach and for long walks along the shoreline. You can lay in bed and see the full sweep of the beach, sunsets, and if there is a full moon the shimmer and moon glow on the ocean. The unit had everything we needed to get started until we could go shopping at Friendly Grocery Store in Kaunakaikai. There are two gas stations there, but we preferred Molokai Fish & Dive because of the lower price, and we used them for a fantastic whale watching trip. Our other expeditions included the Kalaupapa Mule Ride, driving out to the other end of the island to Halawa where we could see several waterfalls from the road after it rained, Aloha Friday Na Kupuna Entertainment with elder musicians at Hotel Molokai, and just exploring the island and talking to the laid back people. We did not go to Paddlers, but they have Hula on Wednesday nights. We ate at the Cookhouse and we loved it. Don't forget to Post a Nut (with Gary the postal clerk you can decorate and mail a coconut). Things you will need: Change for laundry $1.25 in quarters for each load, a rental car (4 wheel drive NOT necessary, but may be helpful if you have to drive in mud or on some of the small roads), and additional toilet paper and paper towels. You will need to keep all edibles in the fridge to avoid tiny ants. The floors will need to be kept clean by you if you plan to walk barefooted in the unit. There is no air conditioning, but screens let in the trades breezes flow through the unit. The cable TV had a few digital HD channels and wireless internet did extend to the unit most of the time. Bring a flashlight as there is a brief power outage on Molokai about once a week. We enjoyed the Hawaiian music DVD's provided. You can pick up 105.1 KINE from Oahu, which is visible most days. We had excellent communication with Dorothy. When we come back to Molokai, we will not hesitate to rent this unit again. Ohana Airlines by Hawaiian Airlines is starting service to Molokai in February. Mahalo.
