Photos and Description of the Elba vacation house rental
4 Bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, sleeps 9

This four bedroom, three full bathroom rustic house sleeps nine and is located on the westernmost point of Napoleon's Elba in the Tuscan archipelago.* This simple, unadorned hideaway is situated in one of the wildest and more undeveloped areas of the island, in a locale known as Campo Lo Feno -- between the charming medieval village of Marciana and the larger bustling town of Marina di Campo, full of nightlife.

Eat caprese and drink Aleatico (the local wine) al fresco at the granite table with a dramatic view of the Mediterranean, Corsica and the island of Capraia. Dinner is especially beautiful as the sunsets are truly breathtaking and are different every evening.

Mediterranean pine, fig trees, rosemary, oleander, and bougainvillea bushes surround and shade the house.

*The island is part of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, the largest marine park in Europe. Construction and development on the island has been prohibited for over four decades.

Surroundings: A steep path close to the house meanders through olive trees and vineyards, takes you to your own private beach and the crystal blue Mediterranean.

Two picturesque villages, Chiessi and Colle d'Orano (both 5 minutes away by car), have rock cliff beaches and there are many sand and rock beaches all around the island.

About us: Our family has been going to the house every July and/or August since 1975 and truly wish we could visit more often. We've shared our home for many years with friends and through word-of-mouth but now feel that more people should enjoy this exquisite place that has meant everything to us for four generations.

Hello,

We have been in Elba since 1986, more than 15 times at the same place... Because: It is probably the most beutiful place, surrounded by old wine terrasses and a brilliant view from 150 meters above the see. Korsika is giving a nice silhouette not only during the sun sets and will be kept in your mind for ever. The small villages of Pomonte, Chiessi and Colle d'Orano deliver everything for a short or longer stay and the house and terasse provides all comfort you need, but what counts even most is the location of the property within the natural park!

The owner's service is excellent and is supported by a local family. We have now three generation of our family visted this lovely place. Proved ;-)

With best Regards,
Ute&Harald

Pure relaxation

My time in Elba was among the happiest of my life, and certainly the most relaxing and invigorating vacation I have ever had. I didn't know what to expect, but driving along a winding road overlooking a dramatic cliff-drop to the Mediterranean Sea on my way to the Pink House for the first time I knew the landscape was more beautiful than what I expected or could have imagined. That same view (sans car) is what greeted me every morning when I stepped outside of the house to breakfast with friends and family at the big stone table. It was like hovering in the sky suspended above the water and surrounded by flowers and greenery--surreal in the best possible way, and a world away from the busy city where I make my home.

High points of my vacation included: sleeping in the hammock located just below the outdoor terrace, driving 3 minutes to Chiessi to spend 2 hours swimming in the sea before a long, leisurely lunch, exploring the beautiful hill towns (Marciana Alta and Poggio) where time seems to stand still, and you can stumble into an empty chapel and sit quietly and reflect on how grateful you are to be in such a beautiful place.

In case this review seems too glowing, here is some advice: Elba and the Pink House are NOT for people who can't imagine life without their iPad. The beauty of being here is reverting to a slower pace of life; overstimulation is not an option--I didn't have cell phone reception at the house. While I could see it being really lovely for a honeymooning couple ready for some serious solitude, I think the ideal situation is a trip with close friends or family in order to really experience la dolce vita in true Italian style: long conversations, long meals, and, my personal preference--and the ultimate antidote to stressful city living--long naps.
Owner's Response: Thank you Adriana for having truly appreciated the goodness of our house in Elba. This is a place to relax and enjoy the beutiful surrounding and the company of family and friends. We hope you will be back soon!!!

My family and I stayed here with friends several years back and had one of the best vacations ever. The house is tucked away and very private, but the patio area basically faces due West (the house rests on the far side of the road, closest to hillside, overlooking the water), and the first day, we witnessed one of the most stunning sunsets I have ever seen, second best perhaps only to Santorini. Given the fact, though, that we felt we had the sunset to ourselves (unlike Santorini), it was truly magical.

We planned on spending much of our time at the beaches, of which there are several beautiful ones nearby (both pure sand and rock beaches); in fact, we found we basically could find a nearby beautiful location, some relatively crowded and some completely isolated and tranquil, and we never even did any of the scuba diving we had planned!

A really nice surprise, though, was that by walking back behind the house, over the road and up the hill, we found some really amazing hiking that offered unparalleled views of Elba.

Overall, this house is not the fanciest place we have ever been, but it had all of the necessities we needed and with a location this great in such a beautiful island, why would you sit in bed all day? The patio, though, was a truly wonderful space to sit, relax, and eat dinner. We hope to go back to Elba, and this location in particular, some day soon.
