Photos and Description of the Akumal vacation villa rental
3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Bathrooms, Detached Unit, Sleeps 6-8

Everyone who has been a guest at Solymar has absolutely loved it!! Please be sure to look at the wonderful reviews...we are sure that you will love it too!

The main villa is 3 bedrooms/3.5 baths (2 king beds, 2 twin beds) with a max. occupancy of 6. The guesthouse (or ''casita'') has one guest apartment with a king bed, bathroom and kitchen which sleeps 2. (See rates)

A few great amenities that we've included in the base prices are the use of our 4 seater golf cart (great to have in Akumal and a $400 value) and the use of the second apartment in the guest house which is set up as an exercise room/office (it has a treadmill and wireless connection).

Other features:

*great location (walking distance to Akumal bay, but you can use the golf cart too!)

*beautifully furnished, very comfortable villa

*on one of the largest lots in Akumal (great privacy)

*the previous owners actually lived in Solymar for 5 years so it has a complete inventory of everything you need. It's not your typical rental property lacking everything like most rentals.

*Solymar is beautifully furnished. No concrete slab beds with hotel quality mattresses on them. These beds were shipped from Florida with wonderful mattresses, quality sheets and pillows. Lots of good reading lamps too!

*The housekeeper, Maria, will be a real asset to your vacation. She not only does the cleaning 6 days a week but she can also cook wonderful meals for you too upon request. We also have a wonderful masseuse who will come to the villa upon your request - he does massages on the second floor balcony overlooking the Caribbean. There is also a wonderful spa in Akumal if you'd like a manicure/pedicure, facial, etc. You're on vacation....pamper yourself!

*The gardener, Luis, will take care of any maintenance needs as well as wash your rental car every day. He is also very good at cutting open coconuts for you!

*We have a wonderful manager who is 5 minutes away if you need anything.

You will love Solymar! The pool is right on the ocean and the villa is on a large, very private lot with beautiful furnishings. We have wireless internet and tons of movies to watch at Solymar. We have just added a new amenity which is an office/exercise room. It has a treadmill and wireless internet for the person who wants to stay in touch or conduct business from Mexico. This is included with the rental of the villa. This room also has a full kitchen and full bath.

I guarantee you that you will sleep like a baby with the ocean waves crashing on the shore at night. Open the windows in your bedroom and let the breeze blow in. It's a great experience!

Akumal is located just one hour and ten minutes south of Cancun on the Mexican Caribbean coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula. It has long been a secret getaway, discovered only by those who dared to travel down the coastline in search of adventure. Once discovered, many travelers found themselves returning to Akumal year after year.

Akumal Bay is a beautiful sugary white sand beach at the heart of Akumal. It is Akumal's public beach area and offers dining, cocktails, diving, swimming and snorkeling. Many of Akumal's amenities are located on Akumal Bay, including restaurants and beach bar, pizzeria and ice cream shop, the bakery, grocery store, dive shops and a few small boutiques with native goods from Mexico and Central America.

All rooms in the villa - upstairs and down - enjoy an ocean view and air conditioning. The downstairs includes a large living room with cozy, comfortable and elegant furniture. After a day of sunshine you can look forward to watching television or a good movie while someone else curls up with a good book. There are many couches, chairs, ceiling fans, a bar and a credenza filled with games. Also downstairs, the kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need and the dining room displays a gorgeous table with a marble column base, glass top and elegant Tommy Bahama chairs for a Caribbean flair. There are also dining tables pool side and garden side so you have many choices depending on your mood. Steaks on the grill, a Mexican meal prepared by the cook, or a picnic by the swimming pool: just make sure you have an icy cold drink in hand!

All three bedrooms in the main house are the same size and have dressing rooms and beautiful bathrooms. The bedroom downstairs has a King-size bed and is called the 'Oriental Room' because of the red silk furnishings and antique bronze Buddhas from Japan. The two upstairs bedrooms both have stunning illuminated brick domed ceilings and are separated by a large private outdoor balcony which is terrific for shade or sun; lying in a hammock or getting an all over tan. The views from Solymar are gorgeous, the elegant and unusual half-moon swimming pool with a backdrop of coral reef, water geysers shooting up into the air and boats sailing by in the ocean. A panoramic view of the aquamarine Caribbean Sea!

Also on the property is an air conditioned guest house or 'casita'. It is located as a second floor over the large two car garage on one side and, unique for Mexico, a large laundry/storage room with bath for the maid and gardener on the other side. The second floor has a beautiful view of the surrounding gardens and birds. There are two apartments and the first one is called the 'Jungle Room' because of the views and furnishings which include lots of wicker furniture and monkey fabrics! It has a King-size bed, sitting area with TV and movies, kitchen and bathroom. The second apartment is the exercise/office room previously mentioned.

Solymar is an experience you should not miss. Elegance and comfort mixed with a Caribbean adventure - a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy!

Best Villa Rental in Akumal!

We've been traveling to Akumal for over 20 years and have rented a number of different properties. By far, this is our most favorite home to rent in all of Akumal. It's now become part of us and wish we didn't have to leave to head back to the states. We''ve rented the house for the past three years and are looking to go back next year. From the moment we contacted the rent the house, Kelly Flynn was so fantastic in terms of the rental process and answering any questions we had. Also, the house itself is unbelievable. So comfortable and more than we ever expected. Also, the house staff (Nidia and Luis) are both so welcoming and do such a great job taking care of us and the house. The location is fantastic. Just a 5 minute walk to town and 5 minute walk to La Buena Vida. Having the golf cart is a bonus and we always rent a few bikes too. We can't say enough about our experience. You can't go wrong renting this property.

Amazing Family Holiday

We just got back from a two week stay in solymar. It was unbelievable! The house is great an the kids swam everyday in the pool! The golf cart was so nice to have and we used it every single day. Akumal beach is one of the nicest beaches I've ever been to and it was two minutes away! We snorkelled with the turtles every morning!
It is hard to get back into the swing of things when you are used to someone cleaning as Nidia and Louis were wonderful. All our fruit cut up and fresh coconuts, laundry done...paradise.
Groceries were close in Tulum or Playa del Carmen. We used Tulum and spent the day in the town shopping and we loved it there too!
Overall a wonderful experience and can't wait to return!

Beautiful home that comes with a very nice staff. The town of Akumal is great, really good restaurants and snorkeling. I would say the home and amenities are best for adults although there is plenty to do in Akumal, it is best for relaxing or leisurely swimming and touring, sports fanatics have to go to other beaches or resorts.

A Return to Akumal. Wonderful. Perfection. Casa Solymar.

The comfort and beauty of Casa Solymar remains exactly as it was last year when we stayed from Christmas to New Year in Akumal in this wonderful home. This villa is simply beautiful-it is well stocked with anything you could possibly need, the furnishings are impeccable, each bedroom comfortable and inviting, the beds lush and the view wonderful. If it wasn't that we enjoy the town and find surrounding shore points so enjoyable-we could have easily spent the entire time on the deck by the pool, listening to the waves and watching the sun rise and set. I truly hope the town of Akumal remains untouched-the locals, the visitors, the eateries, the beaches-this is a perfect self contained vacation retreat sure to soothe whatever ails you.Kelly and her entire Akumal crew-Rhett, Nidia and Luis are gracious and helpful as always. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Solymar and will return again. The only downside for us was this visit seemed to fly faster than our last. Casa Solymar will exceed all of your expectations for a top notch villa rental.

Our recent vacation at Villa Solymar was wonderful. There were 8 adults and a toddler and we all had wonderful sleeping accomodations. Sleeping at night with the sound of the ocean and the wonderful breeze renewed our spirits. We enjoyed the pool and walked to the beach daily. We loved the town of Akumal! Everyone was so friendly and we felt absolutely safe at all times. There are several great restaurants and Nidia's (the housekeeper) cooking was delicious also. Definitely let her cook for you! "Lime soup" is the best! We enjoyed sight seeing in Tulum and Chichen Itza. All in all, everyone had a wonderful time. We highly recommend Akumal and Villa Solymar!

What a Fabulous Place to Experience Paradise From

5 of 5

What an Absolutely Fabulous vacation at Solymar. My wife and I spend a week here wiht our respective daughters and their boyfriends to celebrate an engagement and a college graduation and to share with them our love of Akumal. Casa Solymar more than exceeded our expectations.

The property was impecably maintained and well equiped with everythign you need. Doenstairs is a large but cozy living area, great for catching up on the news on TV or reading in peace and quiet. Also there is a nice sized dining table with comfortable seating for the 6 of us and a well equipped kitchen. The entire back side of the house is windows or sliders with screens which look out to the covered patio, pool and crashing waves on the coral rocks. Also on the first floor is a powder room and huge master bedroom with King and large bath and lots of storage. All I had to do was open my eyes and look out over the pool to see the sun rise each morning.

Up stairs are 2 seperate bedrooms each with private entrance and connected by an up stairs covered patio which looked out over the ocean. They looked great though our daughters rooms are places we dare not set foot into. My morning routine would be to get up and soak in the pool and watch day break with a cup of coffee and watch the beautiful carribean.

The location was perfect. Though not on the beach, it is a very short stroll or golf cart ride to either Akumal Bay or Half Moon Bay for swiimming and snorkeling with the turtles, fish and rays. Yal Ku lagoon is a short golf cart ride away.

Also close a small market for last minute items and there is a Chidraiu market 15 minutes north in Puerto Aventuras which has most everything. In town Akumal has some nice restaurants and shops. My favorite is Lucy's for great fish or shrimp tacos and home made ice cream.

I could write forever about Solymar and Akumal but need to stop. I wish I were there right now. For a great place for a family vacation, this is the place.

We hope you get the opportunity to stay at this wonderful place.

Casa Solymar was one thousand times lovelier than we ever imagined. The VRBO web page and photos do not adequately capture how extraordinarily beautiful this house truly is.To wake up each morning to the incredible sunrise, and sit beside the pool, listening to the sounds of the ocean was a balm for the soul. We arrived after dark, and even then the home and grounds were warm and inviting.
Casa Solymar was well stocked with anything we could possible need. The bedrooms were incredible, the views stunning, the furnishings, artwork, dinnerware, bed linens impeccable and tasteful. Just thinking back and remembering the details makes me smile. The beautful turtle mosaic at the entrance of the house, the doorways and woodwork and tile work -Extraordinary. Inviting. Comfortable. Festive. Serene. The artwork throughout the house was exceptional. This family should be applauded for creating such a balanced, beautful masterful escape for any visitors smart enough to choose Casa Solymar.
Nidia,Luis and Rhett were as described-helpful, funny and gracious. We enjoyed a lovely dinner prepared by Nidia and Lucy-and enjoyed leftovers with cerveza for days.
We were so content at Solymar, that it was difficult to find reason to venture out...but we did and fell over the moon in love with Akumal and the locals. We discovered so many wonderful restaurants along the beaches at Tankah Bay and Soliman Bay. We walked the road from the center of town to the lagoon past Solymar, and lapped up every inch of the beaches, eateries and homes along the way. I must confess there were many beautiful homes, but none compare with Solymar. The beach five miles North of Akumal-Xpu-Ha was exquisite. Worth the short trip. Mom said it was actually as pretty as the beaches in Kailua Hawaii...and that is quite an admission coming from my Hawaiian mom;).
I cannot say enough good things about Akumal and Casa Solymar. A million thanks to Kelly-Denny and Diane's daughter-for her kindness and availability to me when booking and planning our trip as well as her follow up with me once we returned from paradise. Not one of us was ready to leave. Our stay at Casa Solymar was exceptional and we were thrilled with the Mahan's graceful, serene 'house of the sun and sea'.Casa Solymar provided us with the perfect place to escape our loss and heal our hearts a bit for a spell. Thank you Kelly-and your wonderful parents-for allowing us to dscover this hidden gem in Akumal, and to share your little slice of heaven.

Great Vacation at Solymar

Submitted: January 10, 2012 Stayed: December 2011
We rented Solymar the first week in January and had a great time. The facility and staff were excellent. The house came fully equipped with everything we could possibly need.

The main house had three master suites and the casita (apartment) had a fourth suite. SInce we were traveling with our 3 adult children it worked perfectly.

The Solymar has 2 beautiful beaches plus the lagoon within a 5 minute walk or a 2 minute ride in the golf cart provided with the rental. We snorkeled right off of Akumal beach or in the lagoon every day and saw everything from turtles to rays.

We also took the trip to Tulum and Coba 30 miles south and viewed the Mayan ruins and Tulum beach.

The only change I would make in my trip would be to skip renting a car. Renting a car in Mexico is expensive ($1,400 for a mini van for the week after insurance). We didn't need it in Akumal and used it very little. We could have easily taken a shuttle from the airport to Akumal and taken the collective or a taxi to get groceries. The rental car was a pain.

Back to Akumal and fabulous Solymar

Our first trip to Akumal was 23 years ago on our honeymoon, and since that time we've stayed at many places along the coast, from Puerto Moreles to Tankah Bay. We decided to return to Akumal proper this year and were delighted to find Solymar. It is truly as described....excellent and comfortable furnishings, lovely artwork, terrific central location, peaceful but easily accessible....well, I could go on and on, but read the other reviews and you will get the idea. Our dear friends, who are Mexican natives, came along for this trip and we even had our own interpreters! They had never been to this area, so they romped up and down Hwy. 307 while my husband and I were usually content to relax by the wonderful pool with coffee or the requisite cervasa. The golf cart is a true hit, and we dined out almost exclusively in the Akumal area. We all agreed that a week is simply not long enough to do and see everything there is here! Regardless of how much time you can muster, be it a couple of nights or a couple of weeks, we recommend Solymar highly! It is a great deal!
