Photos and Description of the Captiva Island vacation house rental
2 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Office, Sleeps 6

This is a beautiful two-bedroom home with a separate den/office. It is located on Oster Court within Sunset Captiva. The house is furnished and equipped as a second home--not a ''rental unit.'' Our family loves to cook --the kitchen is a cook's kitchen. We are located on the quiet part of a private community, Sunset Captiva, just a few minutes walk from the pool and beach. We have a small citrus grove behind the house (grapefruit, orange, meyer lemon and key lime trees) and an extensive orchid collection. Several good restaurants are within a two minute walk. The community pool is only a three minute walk away. The beach is just a minute further. Boating and great fishing at the end of our community dock are across the street. The beach is extraordinary and extends for miles. This is a great vacation home for young families. We have two pak-n-plays, a high chair and baby monitor. We are at the end of a cul de sac--and the setting is quiet and private.

Please take a look at our visitors' comments which pretty much convey the experience.

Delighted with our stay

To attend a wedding at Tween Waters Inn, we rented the house for a week and were very comfortable there. Why not stay at the Inn? We have 2 small kids and wanted a kitchen, laundry, etc as well as a separate room for the kids. The downstairs office would have been a nice place for another family member (foldout couch, plus there is a downstairs bath) if we had a bigger family. We were delighted that towels/linens were provided so that we did not have to transport them on the plane. The resort is nicely landscaped, the pool is nearby, and the ocean is short walk. We went swimming many times a day. There are manatees in Jensen's Marina across the way every evening, and we enjoyed learning about our shells at the Bailey Shell Museum. Ding Darling nature center was another highlight. Plus we saw a bobcat!

Everything was great.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for checking in. Everything was great. Loved your place and of course loved Captiva. We took your suggestion of kayaking with Barb on Andy Rosse and had a great day kayaking through the path on Bucks.

We have already recommended your place to others and we are very, very likely to return again next spring.

Thanks

Perfect Home, Great Location, Great Owner

This was a perfect vacation. The location is the best on the Island. You park your car and forget about everything for the week. We beached, walked, rode bikes and had a great time. After you are done for the day what a great home to come back to and hang out. The home is laid out beautiful. Open concept very spacious. The flowers, trees and all plantings at the house and the neighorhood are something to enjoy. I highly recommend you stay at Bobs home. Very gracious gentleman, a joy to talk to. The folks right down to the man taking care of the property were fun to meet and talk to. Already looking forward to next year.

Fourth visit

This was our third stay at this lovely house on Captiva. I booked it for the same time next year before we even left. The house is perfect for a small family and close to everything so there's no need to drive anywhere. We highly recommend staying here and will probably keep coming back until the child becomes a teenager and doesn't want to be seen on the same island with us! Seriously though, this is a great place to stay and has all the ammenities. Thanks a million Bob! We'll be back in 2012!

We went back to Sunset Captiva this year and stayed in a unit nearby the pool.  Our interest in that unit stemmed from the fact our good friends, who live in another state, were staying there the week prior and we could overlap with them for a visit.  Additionally, we were enticed by the fact it is near the pool and might obviate the need for us to accompany each child back and forth to the house every time they forgot something they felt they needed/wanted.  Finally, with that proximity to the pool and beach, I thought $2500 seemed like a pretty good deal.

Well, there is no doubt that we made a mistake.  The house is apparently a full time rental and lacks the charm and comfort of yours which is clearly a much loved second home.  Further, you have clearly gone out of your way to make guests comfortable by providing information, supplies (our unit lacked what I would have thought would be basics from beach towels to toilet paper), and a general welcoming feeling.  Additionally, it does not benefit from the good light that yours does; it's main living area really only has windows on the south side, and not even much of that light gets into the house because of the screen porch that is also on that side.  This was a big issue, given that the weather drove us inside a couple of days, but even when the weather was good, it still made it a bummer to be in the house the limited times that we were.  Further, the sun porch off the 3rd floor is very small and completely shaded by thick trees.

Anyway, my point isn't to bash that unit, but just to say thank you again for sharing your lovely home with us last year.  As convenient as the pool was and as nice as it was to not have to move out of one unit and into another when our friends left, I would have enjoyed our trip much more if we had stayed in your unit again.  It is not only a superior layout, but it is in great shape and exudes hospitality, thoughtfulness, and convenience.  Thank you!

Hoping you and your family are well.

Not only did we find Captiva wonderful, we also fell in love with the house. Every thing here was mirrored in our own home. This home was definitely a home away from home. Thank you for making our summer vacation even more special.

Thanks for opening your lovely home! We so enjoyed the orchids and the orange tree. You provide so much comfort and functionality in this home. We could always find more than we needed. We love your library, too! This house is much more than a rental, and we have a feeling the renters are some pretty special people. Thanks again!

Hi Robert,

We're back in France and I'm back to office this morning.

I wanted to tell you it was a real pleasure to rent your house in Captiva.

We started watching some of our videos and pictures yesterday evening and we realized how great it was.

Last sunset on thursday was extraodinary (the light was amazing).

If you want to travel to France, please don't hesitate and if you wish to stay in or near Paris, let me know so that I can help you in anyway.

Once more thanks for all.

Regards

Phil

Third year @ Captiva! It was great! We saw tons of birds and Manatees at Jensen’s. We saw Lucky Stiff at the community playhouse. The best restaurants were the Mucky Duck, R.C. Otters, and the Green Flash. We spent everyday at the pool or the beach. We rented bikes and rode everywhere. Orchids were beautiful and the fruit was delicious. The library was very nice and had great DVDs. On Easter we were able to go to the church down the road. Overall we had a great time and lots of fun! Thanks so much! P.S. We also went to the wildlife refuge!

What a perfect location and house for our week of relaxation and fun. The weather was lovely every day and we enjoyed meeting our fellow vacationers and residents at the pool and during on-the-beach soccer games at sunset. Thank you for sharing your house with us! P.S. The jet skiing was a huge hit!
