This lower-ground floor apartment with private gated entrance is part of a listed historic building that sits opposite the award-winning private garden of Eccleston Square. In appearance and amenities, this garden square surpasses most, including the one featured in the popular movie 'Notting Hill'. Guests of Greenhaven enjoy full access to this private oasis in the heart of central London and its 3 acres of tender and rare plants, conservatory, meandering stone/pebble/brick paths along with patio, picnic, play, rest/meditatation and BBQ areas and a tennis court.

OUR RATES & FREE AMENITIES: Please note our rates may APPEAR higher than other rentals, but they are all inclusive, with many FREE amenities. Lower prices quoted by others may not include taxes, linens, cleaning, personal greeting upon arrival, 24/7 guest support, and/or reflect the most favourable exchange rates. NEIGHBORHOOD: Greenhaven is located in Pimlico, a small residential area of central London (Zone 1) in the City of Westminster. Like the posh Belgravia area, to which it was built as a southern extension, Pimlico is known for its grand garden squares and impressive Regency architecture. Notable residents have included politician Winston Churchill, designer Laura Ashley, philosopher Swami Vivekananda, actor Laurence Olivier, illustrator and author Aubrey Beardsley and inventor of lawn tennis Major Walter Wingfield. There are many cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, green markets, organic food store, bakeries, convenience shops, pharmacies, international newsstands, and other services all within a 2-10 minute walk. It's a 3 minute walk to Victoria Underground, bus, train and taxi stations, that allow you to easy get anywhere in London or England (including Bath, Oxford and Cambridge), a 10-minute bus ride to Big Ben and Parliament, Tate Gallery, Sloane Square/King’s Road, Harrod’s/Knightbridge and the Victoria & Albert Museum and Natural History Museum.

PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: Greenhaven is newly refurbished by European architectural & design firms, air-conditioned/centrally heated and fully-furnished with a mix of contemporary and antique décor. By London standards it's a very large (645 square feet), one-bedroom/one bathroom property and includes living room/dining room area, galley kitchen, bedroom and bath. The apartment is designed with the idea of bringing look and feel of the garden inside with a calm natural palette sparked by carefully placed burst of color. Sixteen foot high ceilings and large windows in the main living/dining area contribute to its very open, light and airy feel.

LIVING/DINING AREA: The main living/dining area has a table with seating for four, a comfortable sleeper sofa and armchair with electronic back/shoulder massage unit that lets you unwind after a long day of touring. The furniture is set in front of a built-in wall unit/library with a large selection of books on London, as well as English history and culture. Atop of the decorative fireplace is a 42” Samsung flat-panel with separate sound bar for enhanced listening pleasure. There's access to 100+ channels, including CNN International, Sky News International and BBC World plus hundreds of movies on demand. For those who must work while away, there's a notebook computer and FREE wireless internet access, wireless phones with FREE international calling to the U.S., Canada, Australia and other countries, and FREE use of printer/scanner/copier/fax machine and office supplies.

The modern bathroom suite features a glass-enclosed walk-in shower with large rainfall shower head, underfloor heating and washer and dryer units.

ROMANTIC BEDROOM: A romantic bedroom with a queen mattress is topped with a sumptuous 3-inch deep featherbed wrapped in fine Egyptian cotton linens. Add to that, a fine Hungarian goose down comforter, and you feel as though you're sleeping between layers of soft clouds. A well-designed halogen lighting system, including personal reading lamps, allows you to select your preferred level of illumination. There also is a built-in storage unit with ample space for belongings.

BONUS ROOM: A separate storage area off the kitchen lets you stash away suitcases and other large items.

Planned by Thomas Cubitt in 1828, the 3-acre square is subdivided into mini-gardens. In recent years, planting has aimed to give year-round interest with many specialist collections such as ceanothus, camellias, climbing and shrub roses. Notable features include a rock garden, a wisteria arbour, an iris garden and a fern garden. Mature trees include fine planes, with acacia, chestnut, lime, and numerous smaller trees and flowering shrubs such as holly, laburnum, laurustinus, lilac, flowering cherry, fatsia, rowan and bamboo with herbaceous bedding at the south-western end of the square.

About Paula Harvan

I have been offering luxury holiday accommodations since 1999, with properties in Napa Valley, California, Paris, and the South of France. London is my latest location. Residential design and decor is my passion, and I strive to provide dwelling places that are more expressive, more beautiful than other vacation rentals. I live part-time in all these places. So each functions as a 'home' -- not just a rental property. The hallmark of each residence is its personal style, which reflects its unique character and location. For example, my London apartment, which opens to the beautiful private gardens of Eccleston, is designed with the idea of bringing look and feel of the garden inside with a calm natural palette sparked by carefully placed burst of color. Quality furnishings, decor and a level of convenience, comfort and attention set my locations apart from those that are exclusively used to as rentals. My philosophy is that I would never rent a property that I would not stay in myself. So, putting myself into my guests’ shoes, I 'think of everything' to make a stay a most positive and memorable experience. I started renting GreenHaven in August 2011, so I'm just now collecting guest testimonials. But to get an idea of the quality of my rentals and guest service, read the dozens of positive comments from those who have stayed at my French properties: just URL 'yourparispenthouse' and 'charmingfrenchcottage'.

Paula Harvan purchased this apartment in 2011
Why Paula Harvan chose Westminster

I've lived in London for a few years, and I wanted to find a location that combined all the its best aspects at my doorstep: proximity to major sites, transportation, shopping, dining, culture and entertainment, but with a traditional London feel. Eccleston Square is it -- with an added bonus: its private garden that's only accessible to residents and their guests.

From the outside of GreenHaven, the view is a scaled-down version of New York's Central Park. You see the upper branches of trees, swirls of clematis, heady explosions of climbing roses and, here and there, the opposite side of Eccleston Square, London SW1 -- one of London's most posh addresses. When you get into the garden, you wouldn't know you’re in the heart of a world-renowned international city. When you smell the flowers and hear the birds sing, London seems to disappear -- yet all of its wonderful sights, sounds, tastes and experiences are right outside the garden gates.

Eccleston Square came about when town planner Thomas Cubitt, who developed it in 1845, had the idea of gathering everyone's back gardens together. Around the periphery, a shady walk takes you though arches of wisteria and clematis. For garden buffs, there are several unique specimen plants, including a handkerchief tree from China -- and art buffs will enjoy the irises, some of which came from Monet's garden in Giverny, France. The Garden Square has won many awards not only for its botanical beauty, but also for its well-integrated features, such as several brick patios, glass conservatory, tennis court, and play and BBQ areas.

The heart of London

We stayed for three nights just a few weeks ago and thought the flat was a perfect accommodation right in the heart of all London has to offer. The flat is beautifully designed and makes a terrific use of space...so much better than a hotel room! The street itself was quiet and a convenient jumping off point for our sightseeing adventures, also with close proximity to several good restaurants. What we really appreciated were all of the special touches and amenities that made this feel like a home away from home...the stocked beverage area, delicious coffee and tea selection, free use of the phone and more. We would not hesitate to recommend the flat to others and stay there again. Thanks Paula and Diane for a lovely stay and your hospitality.

Went for a week; great location as Victoria Station just 5 minutes away, Just as described and location was great. Originally thought it might be too far from the Olmpyics but turned out to be a great location. The garden across the street was wonderful.

Next time in London would book again. Everyone that I interacted with did a great job to answer any question I had.

Definitely would recommend to friends and family.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable 12 days in this lovely flat. It is conveniently located for seeing the city, and is in a short walk from the main transportation hub in London.

The prooperty has access to a lovely garden, but unfortunately we became so busy we did not take full advantage of it.

I was received at the property exactly as agreed to by the property management, and the lady was most helpful in explaing all the features of the flat which are many.

The listing photographs do properly reflect the flat's appearance and amenities.

Linda and I would certainly recommend the property to our friends for a visit to London.

I might mention that our favorite nearby restaurants was Bumbles.

We also appreciated the excellant internet connections.

Pleasant stay in heart of London!

We stayed at Greenhaven for 4 nights at the beginning of Jul 2012. We were pleased with the apartment itself, as well as the location. It's a 5 min walk to the Victoria underground station, and another 5 mins of walk takse you to the Buckingham Palace. The apartment is in a very quaint and upscale looking residential area with rows of white painted townhomes. Just a few streets away was a busy street with all sorts of cafes and restaurants, and a large supermarket. When we arrived, Paula took us on a quick walking tour of the area and showed us where everything was. The apartment was very clean and well kept. Bathroom and kitchen obviously recently remodeled in a contemporary style. The bed and linens were comfortable. Our kids slept on the pull out sofa which looked comfortable enough. Generally it was a great stay and the apartment makes it so much easier especially for a family with young kids. The location made us feel like residents of London. Highly recommended.

From a driver meeting us (we were later than expected - we didn't get in until after 10pm) and the welcome experience, this place is SO much better than we expected and exceeded our expectations!!! We are a family of 4 (13 &11 year old girl and boy) and loved it from walking in the door. Centrally located with a lovely garden, we had friends visit us from Droitwich that were equally impressed. The accommodations even included chocolates, drinks, Nespresso coffees, even shampoo & conditioner! We wish we could stay longer and already know we will plan on staying here when we visit London again. The only way it could have been better is if we could stay longer! Thank you Paula!!!

Best Ever London Stay

Our week in this wonderful flat met all of our expectations. Beautifully decorated and maintained, we enjoyed the thoughtfully and well equipped accommodation. The photos are accurate and even though the space was a bit smaller than we expected, it was so comfortable for the two of us. Quiet, peaceful...not words usually associated with busy London! The garden across the street was lovely. We discovered many great and affordable restaurants in the neighborhood, great access to transportation of all kinds, and a grocery store two blocks away. We have never stayed in the Pimlico area before, and we highly recommend it. Fabulous location. The owner was wonderfully responsive to our questions and to any problems that arose. I will miss my morning latte! Such a nice, elegant touch.

A Beautiful Apartment in an Exceptional Location

5 of 5
Submitted: April 15, 2012 Stayed: February 2012
After having stayed four times in Paula's Paris apartment, and spending nearly a week last fall at her villa in Languedoc, my wife and I felt we had hit the trifecta during our week-long February visit to Greenhaven in London. From our experiences with her other properties, we knew to expect a very high level of quality and meticulous attention to detail. We were not disappointed. The apartment is very comfortable, and exceptionally well furnished and equipped. The pictures do not do it justice. Our son (age 28) joined us for most of the trip, and the apartment was more than confortable for all of us. The sleeping room was cozy but more than adequate. My wife and I were able to read into the night while our son watched TV or surfed his computer, all without bothering each other. London. like Paris, is a wonderful walking city, and this is a great location to stroll any time of day, and as other reviewers have noted, it's a five-minute walk to Victoria Station, which takes you anywhere. Access to Eccleston Square is a bonus not to be missed. What a wonderful urban garden. Paula's recommendations for shopping and dining in the neighborhood were welcome and accurate, but I have to say that the two best diners we had during the week followed trips to Harrod's Great Food Hall, where we splurged on their remarkable food offerings, bringing them "home" to enjoy with a great bottle of wine. Perfect.

Paula's husband, Paul, was especially accomodating when we arrived (Paula was away). We missed our connection in Toranto (don't get me started on Air Canada), so Paul had to rearrange his Saturday schedule to meet us at the apartment in the evening, rather in the morning as scheduled. He was there when we finally arrived, and was very helpful and complete in his orientation to the apartment and the neighborhood. (Since our luggage didn't arrive until Monday, the decanter of Scotch was particularly welcome, as was the washer and dryer.) An added bonus for us, after five+ years of e-mailing, was the chance to finally meet Paula and spend a delightful tea time with her.

We have already made our Paris reservation for this fall, and we are looking forward to returning to London and Greenhaven soon.

Great Space, Great Value, Fantastic Location

5 of 5
Submitted: February 1, 2012 Stayed: November 2011
My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary in London in November 2011, and we had the pleasure of spending our visit at Greenhaven. Conveniently located, our days always started with our short walk to Victoria Station, where we whisked away to wherever our adventures of the day were taking us. At day's end, however, Greenhaven was a welcome respite to come "home" to.

It's a gorgeous space, just as it is described. The only thing I would point out is that the massage chair is not a single unit where the massage system is built into the chair as a single unit, but rather a detachable system that can be placed into the swivel chair or elsewhere if you wished. Either way, I used it constantly, and found it a great relief to tired muscles! The decor is contemporary, creative and tasteful. The kitchen is amazing, and it is a rare thing that a rental space anywhere would go to the trouble to stock the supplies that you find at Greenhaven. The bar, the coffee and tea, the spices and other staples waiting on you are such a time saver, not to mention convenient. All of the equipment in the kitchen is first-rate and gorgeous. I did use the washer and dryer for several loads of laundry, and they worked well, if not fast. The maps and books to London sites were very helpful; I carried around one of the maps for the duration of our stay. And the library in the desk space - if only I had time to read them all!

The only concern I can think of would be that the property isn't suitable for people with mobility problems. The stairs are spiral, narrow and steep.

The amenities we probably found most convenient were the notebook computer and the telephone service. Being American, it was nice to make a couple of calls back the USA during our 17-night stay. I did most research for our trip on the computer, and the TV channels provided a nice way to wind down at the end of the day. We also used the car service to pick us up from Heathrow when we arrived, and our driver got us into town and to Greenhaven swiftly.

Paula is a delight to work with, answering any questions or concerns we had immediately. She was even away in Paris and ill, yet she managed our arrival and details from there, without any hiccups or problems for us. She was very helpful with the details, even letting us know that there was no need to bring umbrellas, since the property had some available.

In short, Greenhaven is a great bargain in a great location. You will be delighted to stay here.

Beautiful apartment in a prime Garden setting

My wife and I spent a week at Greenhaven in January 2012. The owner met us on arrival and showed us around the flat and her lovely neighborhood. The setting adjacent to Eccleston Square is fantastic even in the middle of winter. The neighborhood has excellent restaurants and shops and the apartment itself is a gem. We felt as though we were returning home every evening. Other nice touches are the airpport pick-up for those sending a week and the fully-stocked bar. We even had a complimentary phone to use for international calls. I would stay here again on my next trip to London.

Good Value for Upscale Apartment in Superior Location

On our third visit to London, we stayed at Greenhaven for six nights. What a delight to be able to unwind in such pleasant surroundings after hectic days of touring. We were able to walk to most attractions, and found both the tube and bus stops very close and handy when needed.

The apartment is very well equipped and clean, stores and restaurants are nearby, the garden is lovely, the street is safe and quiet - all of which we appreciated. Paula provided us with good recommendations as well.

A few points to note:
-the steps down to the apartment are narrow and quite steep, but have a handrail
-the bathtub is ample, but the smaller hot water tank limits soaking
-the kitchen can be cool, expecially near the window in winter.

All in all, a great place to say and certainly good value for London. We have already recommended Greenhaven to others, and hope to stay there again. Based on this experience, we will try Paula's other properties if the opportunity arises.

Owner's Response: For those who are challenged navigating stairs, Greenhaven is most likely not the best rental choice. But for others without mobility restrictions, the private gated entrance to the set of stairs and patio outside the front door provides a high degree of privacy and security not found in flats that share a common entrance and are accessed via several flights of stairs.
