Located just two miles from Teton Village, Rocking H Cabin is your perfect home-away-from-home. In the heights of comfort, step into Jackson Hole’s colorful past, rewinding time and enjoying all the West has to offer. This is a one-of-a-kind retreat: no other Jackson Hole rental property is situated on the Snake River with direct views of the Grand Teton and Sleeping Indian. With your own personal access to the river dike for walking, biking or cross county skiing, you could even fly fish just steps from your back door! Enjoy drinks or a romantic dinner from your own river-view platform suspended in the lofty boughs of a pine grove. Encounter the abundant wildlife on the river or in the woods behind the cabin. Or, using our handy firepit and ample seating, build a bonfire next to the Snake River and revel under a huge canopy of stars! Nothing is better than being outside in the wintertime surrounded by the forest, the Snake River and a roaring fire.
This is your opportunity to experience the West firsthand at its source. Beautifully maintained and furnished with genuine antiques from the old west, the Seaton Cabin, or as we refer to it, Rocking H Cabin has been officially acknowledged as a building of historic importance by the Teton County Historic Preservation Board. It was constructed in the early 1900’s by two of the earliest women settlers in the valley: Eliza Seaton ('Ma Seaton') and her daughter. Originally the homestead dwelling of the Bearpaw Ranch (a well-known dude ranch in the 1930’s and 40’s whose land is now part of Teton National Park), the cabin was moved by the family to its present location on the Rocking H Ranch in 1949. There it has served as home to generations of the Huyler family whose grandchildren and great-grandchildren are still owners. Jack Huyler, an elderly storyteller who in his younger years was a well-known horseman, has published two books of Jackson Hole stories. Your stay will be enhanced reading the delightful tales in your free signed copy of Huyler’s book: ‘And That’s The Way It Was In Jackson Hole’. Horses graze on the ranch’s meadows while moose, fox, deer, elk, bald eagles, ospreys and a wide variety of birdlife are frequent sightings.
The cabin’s layout is ideal as a romantic retreat for two, but there is plenty of room and privacy available for the perfect large family vacation. The living room with river stone fireplace has ample seating for all. The Native American rugs and antique furnishings make you feel a part of the old west, but you can still be in contact with the contemporary world through free Wifi. The beautifully tiled and well-appointed kitchen has ample counter space and updated appliances. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare and serve your home-cooked meals. This kitchen, dining and living area connect through a warm, dry entry hall/mudroom with a hallway that joins the three bedrooms, sleeping loft and two full bathrooms.
All the bedrooms have ample bureau and closet space and plenty of room to spread out. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed that overlooks a lovely aspen and pine woods. The family room contains a queen-sized bed, a second single bed and a woodstove with access to the loft that holds two twin beds and a window seat/reading nook. The corner bedroom has a queen-sized bed and its own private access to the woods.
The cabin’s newly-insulated original log walls seal out the cold and retain the heat in winter while being pleasantly cool in summer, while Navajo rugs on the seasoned wood floors are warm and soft underfoot. The attractive modern bathrooms are a perfect compliment to the old west ambience of the cabin.
Rocking H Cabin is a wonderful retreat from your busy lives while you soak up the atmosphere of authentic Jackson Hole history. Create wonderful memories with your friends or loved ones with a cozy book by the fire, with adventures on the river or in the mountains or in peaceful walks in the woods, all the time with easy access to the restaurants and activities of nearby Teton Village and Jackson.
