New Orleans House Rental Photos and Description
17 Bedrooms, 11 Bathrooms, Sleeps 38

The Henry Howard House is an antebellum mansion built by famed architect Henry Howard as a city residence for wealthy plantation owners. The mansion boasts a grand parlor with triple crystal chandeliers, spacious rooms, high ceilings, and offers lodging in a unique residence and neighborhood that is very elite and access is typically restricted.

The mansion is 2 stories with grand Corinthian columns across the front and beautiful upstairs veranda. Set in ancient vine covered gardens and shady courtyards, there's no better place to call home in New Orleans. The property is available as a whole house with the option for breakfast, or on a room by room based on availability. Please contact us for per room rates.

Lovely House, Poor Housekeeping

I rented the "main house" at Henry Howard House so family would have a place to stay together while in New Orleans for my son's wedding. Henry Howard House is a lovely old building with true New Orleans character. It's in a great central location in the garden district.
The property is an 18-room B&B. They offer an option to rent the 9-bedroom main house in it's entirety to include the kitchen, dining room and sitting area. There are an additional 9 rooms with separate entrances in the back of the property. What they do not tell you is that when someone rents the main house – the guests in the other 9 back bedrooms ALSO have access to the main house. Often we found strangers wandering through the main house, even in the middle of a party we were hosting. This was very disappointing, uncomfortable and startling the first few times it happened.
The housekeeping was poor. One of our rooms had an overpowering smell of sewer gas. When I mentioned it to the housekeeper she said they needed to have someone take a look at the toilet. The property manager said there was no odor. Odd that the housekeeper knew what I was talking about but the property manager did not. After a day or two of airing out, deodorizing sprays, a thorough floor washing and scented candles I requested that we be given one of the other outside rooms. The property manager agreed.
The ceiling fans were caked with dirt, grime and hanging cobwebs. There is a layer of dust on most everything and the floors are clearly not washed. The shower curtain liner in my room had many areas of mildew on it. The refrigerator designated for our use had large, sticky brown spills on the shelves. Ironic that rental of the main house includes a cleaning fee.
The towels in my room were musty smelling. Clean towels weren’t provided with any regularity. The beds were straightened in some rooms but not others. Sunday is apparently the housekeeper's day off but no one informed us - we caught on when we found a stack of towels piled on the credenza in the hallway.
The property manager told us to leave our dishes for the housekeeper but then later complained about them. He also complained to one of my guests that it was very hard for him to run the outside rooms as a B&B while someone was renting the main house. I would suggest they not offer the option to rent the main house if it causes a problem.
I do not recommend renting the main house of this property if you expect cleanliness or privacy.

Fantastic experience! Everything I love about my hometown New Orleans is right here! Very clean. Comfortable beds. All of my guests raved about the place. Highly recommended! Great, great value. We rented the whole house, but would be just as valuable for individuals/couples, too. A hot breakfast in addition to continental style served at your leisure was a big plus. Innkeeper is super nice, accommodating, and available. Keep it up, John; you've got a good thing going on here. Thanks for everything! FYI: Though the one balcony does have a view of St Charles, it is not directly on the Avenue...which is not a bad thing at all- just don't expect to catch beads off the floats from here ;)
