We had visited Niagara on the Lake many times over the years and like everyone else that visits, we just loved it. It's history and the uniqueness of the architecture, its sense of community and beauty were all major attractions to us. We had the opportunity to move here and grabbed it with both hands and have never regretted it for a minute. We have lived here for over ten years and are still entranced by it. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
We had been looking for a vacation rental property in the “prettiest town in Canada” for some time. We had seen several beautiful homes, but none of them offered quite what we were looking for. Eventually we found this one. It was sorely in need of some TLC and renovation, but we could see past the work that needed to be done and we knew immediately that this was the one we wanted. It was cute, the location so close to the town centre couldn’t be better, and our guests would be able to easily walk to everything the town has to offer – theatres, restaurants, shops, the lakeshore, etc.
One day, after several months of renovating and tidying up the exterior, a lady knocked on the door to introduce herself. She explained that she had been watching the progress with keen interest because she had lived in the house as a child, along with her 5 siblings (she still lives close by)!
We invited her inside of course so that she could see her 'old' home. She became quite emotional and tearful, gave us big hugs, and said how pleased she and her sisters were that someone loved this house again. It held so many wonderful memories for them all. She went on to tell us that it was always filled with music and laughter when they were children. Her father used to play the piano and they would all sing along while he played. We were so pleased that she was able to see her home again, and that she liked what we had done to it. As she left, she asked if we would mind if she brought another of her sisters to see it. She did, and her sister’s reaction was the same as her own - she loved it.
We were thrilled by their heartfelt pleasure and delight. Our first impression had been right, we sensed it had been a happy home. It had a good ‘feel’ about it when we first looked at it - and it still does! There is something warm, cozy, re-assuring and welcoming about it, sensations which many of our guests have commented on when they arrive.
You're sure to feel it too.
Park your car when you arrive and you don't need to drive again until you go home! No long walks into town, although so close to everything the house is on a quiet residential street, so its very tranquil.
One of my pleasures on an early summers morning is to pick up a cup of coffee and walk with Bailey our dog, to Lake Ontario (five minute walk) and watch the sail boats racing or people out in their fishing boats. There is something wonderfully tranquil about that scene.
Its a two minute walk to the local coffee shop, where you can sit and read the paper or chat to the locals.
Its a couple of minutes walk to: boutiques, restaurants, groceries, locally owned bakery, post office, golf course, parks with children's play area, outdoor community swimming pool, tennis courts, baseball field, volley ball court, convenience store, liquor store etc.
No driving unless you want to. Many cycles paths for safe cycling, bikes can be rented locally and delivered to the cottage.
If you have a dog, a 2 minute walk to the 'common' will get you to the off-leash park, they have a marvellous time there!
We have many coupons from local wineries for free wine tastings.
Location is everything!
