Photos and Description of the Manuel Antonio vacation house rental
House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Casa Sophia is a hidden jewel in Manuel Antonio. Located in a quiet, secluded neighborhood on the eastern side of Manuel Antonio, it offers privacy while still being just a short 10-minute drive from the beach, national park, and amenities. The home could not have a better layout: Every room in the home--from the kitchen to the master jacuzzi--has a gorgeous vista of the emerald Talamanca mountains spilling into the distant sea... The view is framed by the rainforest canopy--and nearly daily one can sit back and try to identify the three different local types of monkeys playing in the trees:

The congos are easy--they're the ones who wake you up in the morning.

The titis are easy--they're the ones who steal your bananas.

The white-faced monkeys are easy--they have... white faces.

When the day is done, and the sun has gone down, it's time to pop the cork on a Chardonnay and sit out on the covered terrace to watch the fading colors in the clouds...

What a beautiful property! In addition to the endemic trees and ornamental plants on the property, thee is a veritable orchard of tropical fruits: cashew, avocado, star fruit, sour guava, soursop, guava, medlar, papaya, banana, plantain, water apple, coffee, cacao, mango, orange, lime, tangerine, grape fruit, sweet lime, tangarine lime, small lime, coconut, and pineapple!

Great views!

My wife and I stayed at Casa Sophia for a weekend in April 2013. The home is beautiful, comfortable, very cozy, well equipped and close to the National Park, restaurants and the beach. The house is surrounded by a vast natural life; you can see monkeys and many kind of birds, just in the deck! The views are impressive, principally from the master bedroom and bathroom, which has an incredible and very romantic Jacuzzi!

Casa Sophia not ideal for older couple

Submitted: March 11, 2013 Stayed: February 2013
My husband and I stayed at Casa Sophia for 8 nights from February 27, 2013. The house was very clean and well-appointed and we did see monkeys and a few birds right outside our windows! But we were surprised to find Casa Sophia does not have a second means of egress (emergency exit), especially when there were a few small earthquakes! We were also surprised that such an elaborate home had so many sharp edges and the pool was surrounded by bumpy stone that was uncomfortable to walk on while barefoot! There were a number of other odd things about the place: The kitchen cabinets were too high to be useful - we had to leave dishes and glasses out on the counter. The kitchen stools and counter were also too high to be useful. The sheets on the king sized bed in the master bedroom did not stay on and became wrinkled and loose, becoming quite uncomfortable. There was no light in the laundry room. The on-demand hot water heater for the master bath provided hot water inconsistently. The kitchen sink faucet leaked excessively. I brought all of these things to the attention fo the property manager. The road to and from the house is extremely deteriorated but driveable. All in all, the location is a good one for driving to Manuel Antonio park, beaches and resorts in the area but if I were to go again I would consider staying in a resort with beach access!
Owner's Response: Hi--I'm Kent, the property manager. I'm sorry that these clients didn't find everything to their satisfaction, but I also feel obliged to clarify a few things. Firstly--earthquakes! While there are occasional tremors here, you can check with USGS--there was one small tremor while they were here. There are indeed some tall cabinets and stools in the home, but not to a prohibitive degree. There is a light in the laundry room. The hot water and kitchen sink have been fixed. The half-mile of road out to the home is indeed bumpy, and is occasionally smoothed out by the municpality.

In terms of whether or not the home is suitable for elderly--I suppose it all depends on your perspective. My handicapped, elderly mother very much enjoyed her stay in March, and had no complaints!

Lastly--there are only a couple of resorts in Manuel Antonio with beach access, starting at $450 per night--more than twice the per-room night at Casa Sophia!

Fantastic Huge Jacuzzi!

Words can really not describe the stunning beauty of Costa ica and our stay in Casa Sophia! This is a one of a kind experience. There is not a single thing that can be improved. This part of Costa Rica is stunning and a truly special place. The views, the animals, and the stunning sunrises across Manuel Antonio from the bedroom window... So much to do and so close by. What a fantastic huge Jacuzzi!

Best Holiday Ever!

Submitted: July 12, 2012 Stayed: March 2011
Casa Sophia is the most beautiful accommodation--everything you could wish for! It also has awesome views, and birds and momkeys galore. The local restaurants were so varied in style and cuisine and all the ones we visited were great, and what friendly receptions we got. If you want the best on the Pacific coast in Costa Rica, this is it. My family had a great week, and we all voted this the best holiday ever!

Amazing Panoramic Views

Submitted: July 12, 2012 Stayed: July 2010
Casa Sophia has the most amazing panoramic views overlooking Manuel Antonio and out to the Ocean. It has its own private pool and sun deck. There was so much to do, a beautiful beach, animals at your doorstep, zip lining, white water rafting, fabulous restaurants, etc. Paradise pales in comparison with this retreat. We will most definitely come back!

Relaxing Escape...

Submitted: July 12, 2012 Stayed: August 2011
We were looking for a relaxing escape, and this is exactly what we got at Casa Sophia--it was perfect. The house is beautiful, well-designed and equipped. The views are magnificent of the rainforest and ocean. You really experience the environment up close, with the exotic birds, monkeys and iguanas right outside the house. There is so much to do--or not in our case--we lazed by the pool during the day and experienced the local restaurants in the evenings. A perfect retreat!

Casa Sophia is a real Gem

We recently returned from a wonderful vacation in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. Casa Sophia was beyond our expectations. The home was very clean and well appointed. The master suite was fabulous, it encompasses the whole top floor. It is a retreat on its own. The view are amazing, location is excellent and the monkeys a real treat. The services provided by Estella and Kent was outstanding, they organized tours for us and gave us some great recommendations for restaurants and sites to visit. We will be back.

Great Family Getaway!

Submitted: June 5, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at Casa Sophia in May of 2012, and have only great things to say about it! The home is very cozy and has everything you need. It's located in a quiet, natural setting a bit off the beaten path. It's secure and very well decorated. My kids had a great time playing in the pool and watching the monkeys play in the treetops--they even jumped on to the balcony!

However, I think my favorite moments were sitting on the balcony in the morning, sipping Costa Rican coffee and watching the sunrise over the mountains and distant coast! What a view!

Family Holiday in Paradise!

We had a wonderful week in Costa Rica primarily due to the fantastic accommodation. We really couldn't have asked for more, the beds were more comfortable than ours and the view from the windows - WOW!! To be so close to stunning scenery, the mountains and the ocean, really did make us forget the hustle and bustle of day to day living in the UK. We all loved watching the wildlife, the most amazing butterflies and birds but the favorite with the children were the monkeys that passed by each day. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending a stay in this lovely house, oh yes and the pool was amazing, we are hoping to fix up another visit soon.

We had a wonderful family vacation in Costa Rica. What a wonderful country with such friendly people. Casa Sophia was a perfect place for everyone. It was large enough for everyone to be able to find their own space. We all felt we really found ourselves. Wonderful far reaching views all the way to the ocean and lots of wonderful animal life. We even had our food an drink delivered from the local town when we were feeling lazy.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed our home. The local stores home delivery service is the fastest I have found anywhere in the world. Perfect for when you can't be bothered to go to the store or when you just need some cold beers or a bottle of wine.
