Cottage, 4 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

The 'Old House' has been in the family for 500 years but was renovated in 2009 and is in mint condition. Yup its a long way to Tipperary.

If you are interested in experiencing traditional Irish music and pubs, please enquire. We know where all the gigs are.

If you like privacy, you will like this. Our detached sunny and spacious cottage is nestled down an old boithrin by a river. There aren’t that many of them left. Take a look at the photos. A picture speaks a thousand words.

There is a front entrance and back entrance. The courtyard at the back entrance is a sun trap.

Recently renovated, this cottage epitomizes the rustic lifestyles of old Ireland. It has 2 large double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and 2 double loft bedrooms. One of the lofts is enclosed. Sleeps 8 comfortably. Washing machine and dishwasher also included.

If you are interested in hiking, fishing or horse riding, it is ideal but you can also find live theaters, shopping and restaurants within a 30 minute drive. The famous Kilkenny arts festival takes place only 30 minutes drive away.

If you would like to know what real Ireland is like and how it is lived by the locals you will like this. The local pubs and shops are a 5 minute drive away. Its the real Ireland.

About Diane Lanigan

The old house has been in the family for 500 years. We recently renovated it. I lived in the house for the past 2 years. I just got a job in London and so I had to move. The area is very local and you will meet local people if that is what you want. If you want to be alone you can do that too. Its real Ireland

Hi Diane!
We have arrived home ;) Your mom is a love and we loved being in Ireland. We put over 1,000 miles on the car stretching from the Cliffs of Moher to Castles here and there to Waterford to the Wicklow Mountains and then to Dublin. Your country is beautiful and GREEN! :) It was wonderful to have your home to always come back to…never more than (at most with my navigating) a 2:15 drive. We would get home and go for a little stroll and meet up with some very friendly cows! ;) Love the beautiful flowers on the rock walls, and explored the graveyard. We went to pubs and listened to wonderful Irish music and watched Irish dancing at Lanigans!! EVERYONE was so very friendly and helpful….but we did learn that no one knows the names of the streets..because they've lived there for their entire lives…so we identified colleges, Ys, pubs, "a couple streets past….", and I realized that I do the same thing! Pass the dog on the corner, take a right at the second tree on the green.. hee hee ;) Our family had a wonderful, relaxing time together and despite a little bout with the flu for my daughter and me, we are all coming home relaxed, educated, and looking forward to another trip back! Your home is just beautiful! I loved feeling like we were home. You've done such a beautiful job with making it modern, yet keeping the old Irish farmhouse feel. We loved the peace and quiet…and the space for each of us who were coming from different parts of life…finishing a semester abroad, graduation and job hunting, work… it was just what we needed.
I'll say that the only thing missing was being able to meet you! Your mum is just lovely and I could listen to her for hours! Your brother was a sweetheart about suggesting where we could eat, and the boys all went to the pub for some evening fun. They taped the dancers and music for Lynnie and me since we were down-and-out, and we just loved it!!
Thank you for making everything so very easy and relaxed in all of the planning stages! If you are back in the States, look us up! We are very close to NYC and love friends popping in to our home!

PEACE, RELAXATION ... TURN THE CLOCK BACK

I would love to keep "The Old House" my little secret but that would be unfair on those who have yet to visit! We stayed here during the winter with friends and what a beautiful refuge it is. We arrived on a cold, rainy evening but opened the door to be welcomed by a large open glowing fire, the smell of home cooked brown bread ... it was the perfect venue for a group of expatriate friends to meet up for a reunion. Although this perfectly restored property is 500 years old, and visually stunning from the outside as it is in the middle of the countryside, the interior of the house is 100% modern with all the necessary mod-cons which meant we were able to wine, dine and luxuriate in the surroundings for the weekend. For those of us who craved a little exercise it was possible to enjoy a long undisturbed country walk and even a trot up to the local village for bread, milk and the odd liquid refreshment! The Lanigan family could not have been more helpful and for their penance now will probably be overwhelmed by international guests as my husband (Italian) has declared it the "real Ireland" to all his family, friends and colleagues!

Fabulous Irish Country Experience!

This was an absolutely wonderful vacation. My husband, daughter ,her boyfriend and I spent a week in this fabulous country house. Everything was perfect right down to the family that owns the home. Alice, Diane and Richard were such gracious hosts the entire week.
The house was a great base camp to do lots of day trips to all over the south, west and east of Ireland. The Lanigans have a beautiful home with everything you need to enjoy your vacation. We could have stayed forever. Thanks Alice for the fresh bread! We hope to return for another visit as soon as we can.

This cottage is a gem, better than expected

We stayed in this cottage in June 2011 and it exceeded our expectations. Its ended up being a lot bigger than we thought. It has all the mod cons too. There is a fabulous red bath in the main bathroom. The wood burning stove was lovely in the kitchen and the open fire in the living room. It was great to be able to sit and relax in front of it during our stay. The 2 main bedrooms are very big and have ensuites. The local village is very friendly and the local pub has wifi. The owners supplied us with a dongle for wifi as well but its really only for emails and surfing the net . One morning we had Irish soda bread delivered to our door by Alice Lanigan. Now that was special. She checked in on us from time to time making our visit there feel very authentic. If you get a chance climb Slievenamon the local mountain. The views were spectaculor. It’s a real romantic get away.

A private retreat

The house has wonderful old thick walls with original windows. It has a huge open fire and a wood burning stove. You get a great sense of peace and timelessness in this house. It has a lovely private boithrin entrance with expansive grounds. The best thing for was the total privacy.

“A perfect house in a beautiful spot”

From our welcome to the moment we left we were treated with the utmost graciousness.
The house was everything and more than the pictures and the owners took us in and helped us with our touring. Upon arrival we were greeted with a homemade tart and got to meet Breda on the weekend. Very clean and an extremely lovely setting.

“What a great Stay !!!!”

What a great stay...
We arrived to be greated by Alice,to collect the keys, what a lovely welome.. The house is stunning, what a location !, If you are after a tranquil, peaceful holiday, this is it..
The house was kept in a very clean order, there is a beautiful open fire which I lit on a couple of ocassions. there are 4 double bedrooms, 3 are unsuite. The house is finished with all mod cons, top class.. a beautiful house.. We found this within easy reach of visiting Clonmel and Killkenny on days out.
There is a lovely stream running along the bottom of the garden. Breda came to see us on our last day to make sure all was going well.
All in all, what a great time we had, we wished we could have stayed longer! We will be booking again next year... We cant wait ....

Quiet Country Setting Yet Close to the Sights

The home is lovingly restored by the owners and offers a secluded comfortable stay in the country. Our family enjoyed walking the property and the area. Kilkenny, Carric An Suir, Waterford and Cork are a short drive and the rest of southern Ireland is within easy reach. If you want to spend some peaceful time in a beautiful secure setting you cannot go wrong staying in "the old house"
The pictures although accurate can't really capture the beauty of the place and the people you will meet while there you'll remember for a lifetime.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
