Photos and Description of the New Orleans vacation apartment rental
Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

This newly renovated beautiful artist penthouse is in one of New Orleans’ most amazing historic neighborhoods the ‘Irish Channel’. A unique neighborhood loaded with quaint Victorian cottages, only one block from the wonderful Garden District, and Magazine Street the best shopping district the city has to offer.

Built in the 1880’s as a corner grocery store, this two story, bracketed style building with a balcony, was designed to sell fresh produce on the first floor and to provide housing for the store owner and his family on the second floor. New Orleans neighborhoods are sprinkled with these buildings some sold meat and dairy products others sold produce, now many have been converted into homes, studios and even corner bars which offer great gathering places for locals.

The second floor apartment is light and airy with floor to ceiling operable windows which open to the relaxing balcony that stretches across the front of the building. Original woodwork,

7’-4” doors with transoms, along with the heavy crown molding frames the 12’ ceilings in the large main room that services as dining and living room. The furnishings are a mix of antiques and contemporary with original art throughout the apartment.

The sizeable bedroom offers a relaxing night’s sleep in the antique four poster double bed. An historic portrait hangs above the cypress mantle.

For the best roof top view step into the spacious bathroom, two large windows will make you feel like you are in a tree house.

If you want to be close to everything – this is the place for you!

Only one block from the magnificent Garden District, loaded with amazing historic antebellum homes whose architectural styles go from Victorian and Greek Revival to Italianate. It is a neighborhood of both local and national celebrities, writers, movie stars and quite a few Kings and Queens!, that would be New Orleans’ Royalty – Mardi Gras Kings and Queens.

Only one block from New Orleans’ favorite shopping district Magazine Street. No need for a car, Magazine Street has everything within walking distance. If you need groceries, a cup of great coffee, a birthday cake, bottle of wine, a message, a facial, jewelry, clothes, shoes, art, antiques, or even a musical instrument it’s just a stroll down the street. There is a restaurant for every taste from Coquette Bistro & Wine Bar, Nacho Mama’s Mexican Grill, Sucré, Gott Gourmet Café, Rum House, Joey K’s Restaurant, Rocky’s Pizza, The Bulldog, Sake Café, Café Rani, Magazine PoBoys, to Juans Flying Burrito. And just a few blocks off Magazine Street is the famous Commander’s Palace.

Only one block from two of New Orleans’ most popular corner bars – Parasols’ Bar & Restaurant and Tracey’s the Original Irish Channel Bar. This whole block turns green on St. Patrick’s Day with Irish Clubs marching in the streets early in the morning then a huge street party continues throughout the day. The Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day is the “Irish Chanel St. Patrick’s Day Parade” which travels up Magazine Street then down St Charles Avenue in Mardi Gras size floats pelting the parade goers with everything you need to make an Irish Stew, cabbages, potatoes, carrots, and onions. There are also hoards of men who are members of local Irish Clubs wearing kilts and trading paper flowers for kisses.

Only 10 minutes to all the fabulous attractions New Orleans has to offer. The French Quarter, Convention Center, Super Dome, Audubon Park & Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas, World Trade Center, Harrah’s Casino, Arts District, D Day Museum, Civil War Museum, Ogdon Southern Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum, Insectarium, Mardi Gras World, Audubon Golf Course, and Theaters both live and film.

Transportation is so easy, stroll through the Garden District to St. Charles Avenue to catch the Streetcar, or catch a bus one block away. Because we are so close to Downtown a cab ride is pretty cheap.

About The Owner

My husband is a retired Architect, who spends his time sailing, painting, refinishing furniture and working on any project that comes along. I am an Event Planner working in New Orleans’ great hospitality industry.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2005
Why The Owner chose New Orleans

Actually we were looking for the building, a historic corner grocery store to be converted into an artist studio and office on the bottom with living space above. When we found it we fell in love with the neighborhood and all the amenities it has to offer – easy walking distance to so many shops and restaurants,

What makes this apartment unique

Light and airy full of charm with a view of beautiful historic homes. You will feel like a local as you walk to the very many restaurants only a few blocks away, or hop the Streetcar to go Downtown only minutes away. Or just sit on the balcony with a glass of wine and enjoy your vacation.

Great Apartment in Irish Channel

Wow, this apartment is much better in person than the pictures. You go into the side door of the house and there is a large spiral staircase to the apartment. Once at the top, you go in and there is a long hallway with the kitchen off the right. The first thing you notice is how high the ceilings are and how bright the whole place feels. This feeling continues throughout the home. We absolutely loved the entire place and the location cannot be beat. The apartment is one block to magazine and parasols. If you are going to New Orleans, I would totally recommend this apartment!

This actually looked nicer in person than in the pictures. Bob and Alana were unobtrusive, yet helpful when contacted. A well appointed kitchen, which we didn't really use, but we could have made a nice meal if we had wanted to. A nice neighborhood, nice place, nice stay. Would definitely stay again.

Felt like home. Comfortable, clean, light and just plain delightful. The apartment is located in a perfect location for exploring different parts of the city. A great neighborhood with food and bars and just great walking. The owners have taken the time to think about what they might want if they were staying in a place away from home.
We are excited to return and have already mentioned it to our friends and family.
An amazing find!

Our stay was a super comfortable experience. The owners were very accomodating to our early check in and late departure. The suite was nicely furnished, very well equiped, spacious, and bright.. One of the most comfotable beds imaginable. There are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance, as well as a good bus service. Highly recomended for a couple.

This is a beautiful large apartment with 12 foot ceilings, light and airy with art on all the walls that is located in a wonderful area. The pictures and description are accurate, but it is even more appealing when seen in person. It is so tastefully decorated that it is a wonderful place to simply rest and relax. However, there is much to do within easy walking distance. There are numerous restaurants, interesting shops, night life and beautiful Gardent District homes to see. The owners are gracious and accomodating. The rate is significantly less than most hotel rooms and you get so much space. It is a real bargain.

This is a gorgeous apartment: airy, spacious and comfortable. Everything is clean and well cared for. We loved the balcony! The location is absolutely perfect for enjoying the best of New Orleans. It's in the Irish Channel (lower Garden District), two blocks from St. Charles, halfway between downtown and Carrollton. The Warehouse District, French Quarter, Audubon Park and Tulane are easily accessible on public transportation. It's an easy walk to the many many shops and restaurants on Magazine Street. Parking is no problem in the neighborhood. I plan to stay here again when I return to the city!

Our stay was everything we hoped it would be. The owners were wonderful and I would recommend this property highly. There were fresh flowers on the table, drinks in fridge, coffee, tea and croissants. It was well maintained and very clean. We could not have been more pleased. We use VRBO at least once a year for our trip.

My husband and I had great time staying in this lovely apartment for 3 days while attending Parents Weekend at Tulane. It was very clean and comfortable, artistically decorated, and the owners were very friendly and accommodating. It was reasonably priced and the location was great. We could explore Magazine St. and get to the St. Charles trolley with a nice walk through the Garden District. We plan to return in the future!
