One of the best houses we ever rented

Very charming, you can see that from the pictures, and very comfortable. There were 6 of us - my husband and I, our 3 children under the age of 9, and my mother-in-law - very mobile and active 74 year old. This is important, because there are 4 single beds upstairs, and the stairs are steep and narrow, but nobody in our family complained or had any problems going up and down. The living/dining area is not he main level, very comfortable for meals, hanging out on the couch and chairs, or sitting at the little desk with your laptop. There is a small public playground literally next to the house, so our children went there a lot. The playground could be a potential noise source on a summer night, but we did not hear anything, we were so tired after the day's adventures. My mother-in-law loved sitting on the little porch, smelling the honey suckle. By the way, the garden is very beautiful too.
The one thing that might turn you off is the shower - very small and in the same little space as the toilet on the lower level, so that we you take a shower, everything gets wet, but that did not bother us, it was perfectly fine and fired very fast, besides, we went to a thermal pool almost every day and did not need so many showers at home.
For me, the highlight was the kitchen. If you own good appliances at home and find it inconvenient, to have to use a 20 year old dishwasher on vacation, hold your breath - they have a Miele there. What a treat.
Another treat - the owners themselves. We felt very taken care of: the place was very clean and ready for us, Paul met us by the door when we arrived, and later in our stay, it was easy to contact them for everything we needed to know. Another highlight - they filled up the fridge and the pantry with the basics, and there was a bowl of fruit on the table when we arrived. For a family with small children, it was priceless - not to have to look for groceries for next morning.
Last but not least, the cottage is very close to everything, closer than the maps show. We walked, took busses, and rented a car for only one day to see the Golden circle.
I would not stay anywhere else in Reykjavik next time.
