This beautiful, spacious, light filled Custom Cape in North Chatham is situated on a rise at the end of 1.5 Mile Nickerson's Neck stretching into the warm waters of Pleasant Bay. Great neighborhood for kids. New to the market March 1, this property features reduced rates for its first season! On a cul de sac, well removed from traffic, and only one property back from the water on two sides; Crows 'Pond' on one and Pleasant Bay on the other. Glimpses of water, lots of sea breezes, and just steps down a shared right of way to the shore for beach combing, fishing and kayaking. The house is surrounded by professionally kept gardens including a Japanese garden and Koi pond off the deck. The house features vaulted ceiling with skylights in the dining-sitting area, kitchen with FP, den with wood stove, and family room with FP, lots of seating, and a 55' HDTV. Three bedrooms include queen size beds. The fourth includes a pullout and two twins.
Nearby Family Swimming: We are often asked “we have young children, how close is the nearest public beach? Pleasant Bay and the shore are just steps down a Right of Way from our house. Our shore is ideal for walking, viewing spectacular sunsets, casting for striped bass and kayaking. The 'ideal' swimming/sunning beach for the family is Jackknife Harbor beach on Orleans Rd just over a mile and a half from the house. With plenty of public parking, Jackknife Harbor beach is a nice sandy beach on Pleasant Bay with relatively warm, calm water, and a tidal stream for the children to play in. Jackknife beach is perfect swimming for both children and sunning for adults!
If you want to cut the kids loose to do some swimming on their own, they can ride their bikes from the house down quiet side streets to Strong Island Landing just over 1/2 mile from the house. This is a great beach/landing for the boys, very small and very little used.
Walking, Kayaking and Canoeing from the House: Our house is situated at the end of a 1.5 Nickerson's Neck stretching into Pleasant Bay. The outer end of the neck (beyond the golf course) consists of high end homes (many waterfront) on cul de sacs and quiet side streets. The streets are wide and winding with many glimpses of water. Morning and evening walks, jogs, and bike rides are a great way to enjoy the immediate neighborhood and the fresh ocean air.
Across the circle at the bottom of our drive is a right of way leading down to the shore on Crows Pond. The water is little more than 100 yards from our back door. Please ask about using our kayaks, or bring your own canoe or kayaks and use our kayak carts to walk them down to the shore. Crows Pond and the sheltered portion of Pleasant Bay just outside the Pond are some of the Cape's premier kayaking waters. Great wildlife viewing. Kayak out to Fox Island for a quick swim or picnic, or further out to Strong Island Preserve for a day of hiking/swimming!
Great Neighborhood for Children: If you have children, bring their bikes! Our house is on a private circle at the end of Fox Hill Road in an exclusive neighborhood with great neighbors. There is little traffic on the local side streets. Older children can walk down the Right Of Way to fish, and to explore the shore for shells and what the tide has left behind. We have a nice lawn surrounding the house on three sides - and removed from the street - great for the very young to play in the grass. Older children can ride their bikes 1/2 mile down quiet side streets to Strong Island Landing for swimming.
The home was built in 1991 and has been in our family since. While we live in MA, we don't have frequent opportunities to use the home at present, and have decided to share this beautiful property with others vacationing in Chatham.
Having had family on the Cape, and having vacationed there our entire lives, we came to know and have a special fondness for the Chatham area. Chatham is classic Cape Cod, with a wonderful small town feel, magnificent Pleasant Bay, miles of Atlantic Beach, and very little of the over-development found in other Cape towns. The land we purchased to build on is a mile and a half out on a neck of land that extends into Pleasant Bay. The mile and a half drive itself is a scenic pleasure as it winds through a private golf course with magnificent views of the bay and ocean on both sides. The neighborhood at the end of the neck is secluded, quite, and features beautiful side streets winding by waterfront homes. Perfect for bike riding, jogging, and quite evening walks.
