NEW UPGRADE COMING -- Walking ramp to front door. ***Summer price break: 2 weeks, $1,600: FALL SPECIAL --Sept-Oct -- $800/week***Feel like stepping out your field- and- forest-surrounded front door and going for a walk down a quiet country road, hearing only the low mooing of nearby Holsteins? Or perhaps each morning embarking on an invigorating hike up one of the many scenic trails circling the state of Massachusetts’ highest peak?

If these simple pleasures seem to beckon like an escape from the frenetic pace of modern life, then a stay at this little lush, green oasis is perfect for you. But that doesn’t mean isolated!

Newly upgraded Country Bungalow offers a simple comfortable retreat with treat-your-- toes silk carpet, mid-century modern antique ambience, the latest conveniences such as HD TV and Internet access so you can finish that book, script or thesis. The living room also has a queen-sized futon, for extra seating and an overnight accommodation for extra guests.

Plus, Country Bungalow provides the rare gift of a secluded location in Williamstown, where composing music won’t bother the neighbors, and capturing a landscape filled with iconic black and white dairy cows grazing against a verdant hillside backdrop for your next plein air masterpiece is a easy as setting up your easel in the backyard. You’re only interruption may be the distraction of a scurrying chipmunk or the fluttering wings a blue bird or cedar waxwing pecking at the garden. And what could be more soothing, than the soft sounds of a gurgling brook that meanders along the edge of the property, ebbing and flowing with the rain flow.

NEWLY ADDED -- to please the busy professional, parent or spouse needing a little alone time for work or play -- is a sitting room, with amazing views through the French doors, easy access to the backyard as well as the second bathroom -- which is located on the bottom level.

A computer desk has recently been added to this area as well as a restored countertop with single-serve coffee maker extra boost is needed to finish that report or manuscript. A small TV with built-in DVD player is also new and will keep the little ones need entertained with a movie, while Dad is watch the PGA on TV.

And it should be noted that watching the black and white calves grow (because the farmer only raises a few dairy calves each season), can be enjoyed primarily for their aesthetic beauty as iconic parts of the landscape as the barn is about a half mile away from the house.

The homeowner lives nearby, so any issues can easily be addressed. And while Country Bungalow is remote, its location is easily reached off the main roads and most of the street paved for ease of access.

Williamstown, which is home to the celebrated Clark Art Institute and esteemed Williams College (summer home of the prestigious Williamstown Theatre Festival), offers a mix of quaint cafes, trendy restaurants and shops, a modern library and excellent golfing. All these pleasures are only about three miles away – perfect for a leisurely bike ride into town. Or on the way to town, picnic at a park that is alongside a nearby babbling brook.

The Berkshires offer visitors a wealth of cultural and recreational activities, from hiking, biking, golfing and boating to fishing. Next-door city North Adams is home of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), the Western Gateway Heritage State Park with its a unique museum about the construction of the Hoosac Tunnel, the geologic wonder, the all-marble Natural Bridge, and a road to drive to the top of Mt. Greylock -- the state’s highest peak that has historic Bascom Lodge for dining and the Veterans Memorial Tower for those with constitutions strong enough to climb to the top of it -- that is newly paved.

Competitive cyclists can get an excellent workout heading south to Pittsfield on Route 7, but those with children may decide to load the bikes into the car and head south on Route 8 from the Tunnel City to the quaint town of Adams. Here, breakfast at the Daily Grind, and shop at Lynda’s Antique Clothing Loft before heading for a safe scenic trek on the bike trail called the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, which connects Adams to the end of the trail in Lanesborough, MA, located at the Berkshire Mall. Pittsfield, the county seat, is home to the Colonial Theatre, Barrington Stage, Berkshire Museum, Beacon Cinema, Hancock Shaker Village and trendy restaurants. Other nearby Berkshire summer cultural hot spots, many open all year include; Norman Rockwell Museum, Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Shakespeare & Co., Berkshire Theatre Festival (now teamed with the Colonial Theatre), Berkshire Botanical Gardens, Chesterwood, Kripalu and more.

Besides, Williams College, Country Bungalow is conveniently located near Mass. College of Liberal Arts, Berkshire Community, Bard of Simon's Rock, Buxton, as well as Bennington College and Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT. From Williamstown, touring the Green Mountain State’s bucolic countryside and shopping outlets in Manchester are easy.

So pack your hiking gear, bikes (or use ours, we provide 2) and of course camera, because when you book your stay at Country Bungalow, besides picturesque cows you’re likely to snap shots of deer, gliding hawks or eagles, flocks of turkeys, moose and coyotes from the comfort of your chaise lounge.

We look forward to seeing you.

Wonderful hiking, beautiful place, night sky

We had a wonderful time hiking the Appalachian Trail through Massachusetts and using Country Bungalow as our base camp. Lots of mosquitoes on the southern end near Great Barrington, but they didn’t keep us from making it over Mt. Greylock into Vermont!

We especially enjoyed locating our “home” from the summits. In the evenings after our hikes we would say hello to the neighbors who mostly kept chewing the grass, but were friendly enough anyway!

On our off days, we also enjoyed the Williamstown Theatre Festival, “West Side Story” at Tanglewood, Hancock Shaker Village, MASS MoCA, the Founding Documents @ Williams College Art Museum, Desperados Mexican, Coyote Flaco and Hops & Vines!

Lots to do here in the Berkshires.

At the end of the day, though, nothing could compare to the magnificent night sky on the clear nights. How incredible to have a beautiful place to stay so close to so many great activities that still has enough peaceful darkness to see the sky lit up with stars stretching into infinity.

We truly enjoyed our home and your hospitality in Williamstown.

Thank you

I'll keep this short. Williamstown is a lovely place and this rental is a great base of operations. All the features advertised are in good and workable condition, including a full kitchen, basement laundry, central heating and wifi. If you need a luxury hotel room, obviously this is not what you want. Howeer, we have two small kids, and wanted to get to know the area at our own pace. This place worked perfectly for us.

Dear Francis, Rosemary, and Carl,

Thank you so much for the wonderful accommodations this past weekend. We had a great time and enjoyed the fresh air, cool breezes, and beautiful views on the property and surrounding area. We loved watching the cows and picking fresh vegetables from the garden in the yard. Thanks for being so efficient in answering all our questions before and during our stay.

Thanks so much again,

We had a great time!
Enjoyed the views and the cows. The weather was not cooperative but we enjoyed our visit in spite of it.
Thank you for sharing your home with us.
P.S. Sofia & Alex particularly liked the "aquarium" and watching the cows.

Had a great time in Williamstown even without the snow. Really enjoyed the animation museum (Animagic) in Lee. Try it! (Museum is free, but by appointment only. Phone,413.841.6679) We made our own claymation film!
The cottage is comfy and quiet – just the break we need from our busy city lives.
PS: Nice photos in the Money Brook Trail!

House great; 5 wonderful, busy days hikes/museums

Five wonderful days & quiet nights. The days were busy with the museums (Clark Art and Mass MoCA) and hikes. Yesterday we took the Falls hike – a leisurely 5 hours.
Do not miss Cricket Creek Farm’s cheeses! The house itself was great -- the kitchen served us well.
