About The Owner

We are a family of four; a Montessori preschool teacher, a building contractor and 2 middle & high school aged children. I have lived in Berkeley most of my life and my husband has lived in the Bay Area since his teen-aged years. This is the house I grew up in and have many fond memories of living there. Currently we live a few miles away but have held on to my childhood house which is perfect for visiting family, and renters from far and wide. We like the diversity of the city and the wonderful access to culture in the city and the greater Bay Area. We love eating out at the richly varied restaurants in the area. We look forward to welcoming you to our home and please let us know how we can make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

What makes this house unique

This area offers a diverse cultural and intellectual life and some of the best eating options in the nation such as Chez Panisse, the origin of California cuisine and local and organic dining. There are abundant opportunities to experience art, music, theater, cinema, and wonderful hiking options around the area. Berkeley even has its own secret pathway system that winds through the hills. The weather is temperate all year which allows for many day trips to San Francisco, the beautiful coastal beaches, or the Bay which offers sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and fishing. Just an hour away are the redwood forests, the spas in Calistoga, the vineyards of Sonoma and Napa which offer wine-tasting, spas, hot air ballooning, glider rides, shopping and gourmet dining. A 2 hour drive will put you in the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Pebble Beach Golf Course, or the quaint towns of Carmel or Mendocino. Lake Tahoe or Lake Alpine, with sailing and hiking in the summer and snow sports in the winter, are approximately a 2 ½ to 3 ½ drive away.

All the comforts of home

My daughter and I came to Berkeley with a mission of finding an apartment in one weeks time. It was one of the most stressful weeks I have encountered in a very long time. But at the end of the day I knew coming back to the comfort of this lovely home would make all my stress disappear. The owners made our stay so welcoming by starting off our stay with a lovely welcome basket. The beds were so comfy, plenty of fresh linen and towels, and we had all of the comforts of home around us. I especially appreciated the washer and dryer. The home was conveniently located close to all restaurants, sightseeing and the famous gourmet ghetto.Thank you again for opening up this lovely home to us. I would recommend it highly and would love to come stay on my next visit.

Our Cerrito Stay

We stayed in this house for 3 nights. All was as expected from description and photographs. It was very clean and the kitchen is very well equipped. We both like to cook so it was great to see that. Enjoyed walking to Solano area for breakfast and other shopping and had a great time with our granddaughter... the prime reason for our visit.
We will be back.

Spent a month and loved it

Our family of 5 spent a month in this great home.
Our kids are young (all <6) and had no problem sharing a single room.
Back yard is very welcoming. Neighbors are nice.
Good location, clean, the owner -Ina- clearly cares that her guests enjoy their time there. I needed to extend my stay by an extra day and she was very accommodating.
Would definitely stay there again if were went back to the Bay area for a long period of time.

Our family of four spent a week at this cozy house. It is conveniently located just across the Berkeley City line in El Cerrito, and is on a quiet street with access to the BART station for trips to SF or elsewhere. There is a local Trader Joe's and many nice restaurants on Solana Ave, so dining in our out is very convenient. The owner, Ina, is extremely responsive and helpful. The home is a great bargain.

The house was perfect for four adults...spacious but cozy...with everything we needed. The neighborhood is quiet, with lovely front yard gardens, and a walking distance to coffee shops. We truly enjoyed our stay. The house is a bargain!

Great house stay while sailing in the bay

My daughter and I stayed at this great house in El Cerrito. Fresh Flowers greeted us in the kitchen on our first day. The house was clean and comfortable. The bed was better than mine at home. The house is on a quiet street 5 blocks from Solano avenue which has a great variety of restaurants and 2 supermarkets. The house helped make our time in the bay area enjoyable. It was easy to park in front of the house and from there to access the great sites in the bay area.

A True Guest House

Submitted: May 27, 2012 Stayed: April 2012
Thank you for providing such a nicely appointed house for guests to stay in. My friend who lives locally was also really impressed and will be recommending it to another friend who visits once in a while. You are a true hostess - it was obvious that you cared about providing a place that guests would enjoy staying in -- a true guest house.

There were so many nice touches: flowers, welcome basket, coffee, condiments, plastic wrap and foil, dish soap, logs for the fireplace, games for families, maps, travel brochures, and the detailed reference book with almost all the info you could want. It was truely wonderful. The only thing I might suggest is adding a few names of reputable taxi companies to the reference book.

Thank you, thank you! We certainly hope to use you again on future trips.

Perfect for us

My husband and I spent three wonderful months in this charming house and would highly recommend it. It was nicely decorated and light-filled, as the photos depict. Anything we could possibly need was supplied. The spacious and well equipped kitchen included plenty of dishes and even serving pieces for entertaining. The house contained lots of cupboard and closet space, and ample linens were provided. Lots of "extras" were provided, too, such as maps and brochures for the area, deck furniture, wifi, cable TV, candles and table linens, even a picnic basket. The owner was extremely responsive and helpful when we had questions. It is on a very quiet street, convenient to the BART station but without BART noise. We enjoyed taking the BART to San Francisco and downtown Berkeley; hiking in Tilden Park; walking in Sunset View Cemetery; jogging on nearby school tracks and local paths; eating, browsing, and movie going on Solana Ave; and shopping at the nearby shopping center and COSTCO. This house could not have been more perfect.

Lovely house in established neighborhood

5 of 5
Submitted: November 25, 2011 Stayed: November 2011
This is a lovely little house in an established, quiet neighborhood. Much care has been taken to make the house comfortable -- interesting art, just enough furniture, plenty of sheets, towels and blankets, and a good book and music collection. The kitchen is also well-appointed, with nice glassware, dishes, and plenty of appliances. It was wonderful to be able to spend our four day weekend with enough space so that we could read, relax, and otherwise feel at home in Berkeley. Staying in a neighborhood gives a flavor of what it would be like to live there. We hope to come back again on our next visit.

Your place is wonderful

Submitted: November 6, 2011 Stayed: October 2011
Ina - Your place is wonderful. My only regret is that we had so little time to spend in it and to relax and enjoy. I've stayed in several VRBO's and yours really shines. You are so thorough and clear in the materials you have. It really makes it easy to feel that you are doing the right things to be allowed to stay in and enjoy your place. And it is so easy to keep neat and clean. You've done a great job.

You had several pages of 'things to do' in you welcome book. I wanted to copy several of them, but ran out of time. My husband was interested in the Indian Rock hike and quite a few other things. I was impressed to see the pages on hospitals, emergencies, etc. I've never been to a VRBO that displayed such incredibly important things. You never know!

Again - thanks so much. We come up to Berkeley often, but usually for just one overnight. But, you'll hear from us again when we need to stay longer.
