Had an amazing time - the house we stayed in was beautiful and lacked nothing - definitely would go back and recommend this place. the staff was excellent and it was a wonderful time...highly recommend

Gorgeous N. Captiva Retreat!

This was the perfect getaway for our family! We usually stay in Boca Grande but decided to do something different. When saw our rental home we knew we had made the right decision. Beautiful, perfect and accommodating! Our kids loved watching the planes take off and land. They also got to pet the manatees everyday when they came right up to the dock where we kept our boat. The house was just perfect and exactly what we were looking for. Not once did we ever feel like we were on top of each other. The open layout was great. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!

July 4th Getaway

Booked Runway Blues as a last-minute July 4th getaway and the house was wonderful - exactly as described and pictured. The view from the home's top deck of Pine Island Sound to the left and the Gulf to the right - both about 500' away - was beautiful and on the 4th, we had 180 degrees of firework displays on Pine Island, Fort Myers and Captiva. The totally-screened in porch on the second floor was the perfect place to relax without any chance of attack from mosquitos. The third-floor has the main living area - a cool, open space to hangout, watch tv and prepare meals in the very well-stocked kitchen (lots of good-quality pots, pans, glasses, dishes, etc.) - and also a deck great for watching planes takeoff and land.
The beach is beautiful - a 3 minute walk from the house, but we always took the golf cart to help with the chairs and towels - and the sunsets are amazing!! The maximum number of people I counted on the beach at one time was 21 in our half mile stretch so it is definitely not crowded!
One of the home's benefits is free use of kayaks and bikes from the North Captiva Island Club (NCIC). While kayaking we saw manatees up close and dolphins in the Sound and on our bike adventure (the path has lots of soft sand) to the south end of the island we found amazing shells and three-mile beach with only two other people. We loved Queenie's super-delicious ice cream and enjoyed having drinks one night at the Pool Bar where we visited with other vacationers. As a runner, I liked the island's feeling of trail running - dirt roads and covered in greenery.
Tom, the property manager, came by for two quick visits and responded immediately to our requests for a pitcher so we could make iced tea and a few small wastebaskets for the bathrooms (these had been moved to the guesthouse by previous renters). He was very helpful and great with information about the island.
If you're looking for crazy nightlife, lots of shopping and tons of restaurants, pick Miami, not North Captiva. But if you want a beautiful retreat where you can relax away from it all, Runway Blues is the way to go!

My family loved our stay in the property. The house was beautifully decorated and conveniently located. There are a lot of stairs to negotiate which wasn't a problem for us thanks to a well placed baby gate which we got from Vicki, the helpful "concierge". The island is wonderful just be sure to carefully plan your grocery orders because selection of groceries and restaurants on the island is LIMITED and EXPENSIVE.

Great Vacation!!!

One of our best vacations. If you love sun, beaches and no crowds and watching God's creation this is the place to go. The rental we stayed at was clean and spacious and had great views. The weather was perfect couldn't ask for anything better. The people on the island were very friendly. I can't say enough on how much we enjoyed our stay and hope we can go back someday.

Island Paradise!

My husband and I rented the cottage for a week in February 2012 and although getting there w/groceries was a bit of a challenge, it was well worth it. Our vacation at Runway Blues on North Captiva Island was one of the best vacations we have ever had, which is saying alot as we've traveled throughout the US, Mexico, and parts of Europe. We consider it our 'way past due' Honeymoon (married 30+ years) as it was everything we dreamed of and so much more. Runway Blues is one of the most beautiful homes on the island, decorated perfectly with every amenity one would want. The beachfront is a short walk and an even shorter golf cart ride. We spent a day at the resort and thoroughly enjoyed the pools, jacuzzi and cafe. Runway Blues is perfect for a couple, couples, family, or a family reunion. We can't wait to visit again, although next time will probably be either a family reunion or couples vacation with friends. A word of caution if you are looking for a night life...restaurants close at 9pm. Outside of a private house party or such....nightlife is what you and your guests make it to be, which was fine by us!

We had a family reunion during Thanksgiving Week at Runway Blues. This property is absolutely fantastic. Clean, modern, spacious and very comfortable for the 9 adults in our party. This property is well maintained. The kitchens were fully supplied with everything we could possibly have needed. Peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The property sits adjacent to the grass airplane runway so it was always exciting to watch the small planes land and take off. The upper level observation deck was definitely the place to hang out during the incredible Gulf of Mexico sunsets. It's a one minute walk to the beach. Fishing was fantastic on the shore and even better out on the rented boat. The 2 included golf carts made this very convenient for all of us to get around the island. Vicki, our concierge, was very knowledgeable and helpful. North Captiva Island is a very unique and special place. Runway Blues is a great place to chill out and relax. Highly recommended. Can't wait to get back.

Runway Blues family vacation

My family enjoyed this house for one week. It was clean with access to the beach within a city block. I was expecting it to be small, but it was four floors including the roof top terrace. My children couldn’t find me a few times in the house. The amenities were nice, i.e. Wii, large flat screen TV’s and DVD players. Everything is modern, even the L.G. washer and dryer. The pictures on the site do not serve this place justice. It was in a beautiful location. You have to see it. It was cool watching the prop planes land in the grass from the upper terrace. There are no motor vehicles on the island, so there is no smog, just good island living. Also, the beach was pristine. After the host showed my family the home, we began to tour the island with the provided golf cart. My children loved exploring the island. It was always something to do like kayaking, cycling, swimming in the club pool etc. It was so peaceful setting on the screened deck in the evening. It was like we had the island to ourselves. Actually, the beach was vacant a few times during our stay. The beach was never crowded on the other days.
One thing to remember is to bring insect repellent, because you are in a tropical environment. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay and will return to Runway Blues again. Thanks for the memories.

Perfect Family Getaway

Our family of five desired a home that was comfortable, in close proximity to the beach and was stocked with all the basic necessities. Well, we found all that and more with Runaway Blues. Three members of our family are under the age of 8 years old and had a blast. Some of their highlights were watching the planes and helicopters landing and taking off of the runway right from the balconies and the short distance the beach. The decks boasted views of the water and were ideal places to be as the sun set each evening. All the gear that you would need to cook a meal, clean dishes and clothes and even bathe were at your finger tips. The house was so welcoming and decorated so beautifully. When we weren't playing at the beach we kept entertained with the TV, board games, books and wii. Our objective was to find a vacation home that would allow us as a family to relax, get rejuvenated and draw together as a family unit and we accomplished that at Runaway Blues. We would highly recommend this home to our friends and family and warn them they are going to love it and want to come back again! We hope in the future our travels will bring us back to Runaway Blues. It has topped our favorite vacation destinations.
