Cheney and Spokane: Cheney is home of Eastern Washington University and is a small town which provides a variety of amenities. Grocery stores, bars, and terrific eateries. During the second weekend of July Cheney host one the largest Rodeo's that brings tons of cowboys and cowgirls from all over the region. Yee Haw!!!
Spokane was the home of the 1974 World's Fair. This world class city is the Gem of the Inland Northwest. If a night on the town is desired your needs can be fulfilled. Riverfront Park is considered one of the most family friendly environments in the United States. The Spokane Falls, during the spring, are a must and can be enjoyed from the Gondolas directly above or from several fine dining restaurants.
Within a short drive from Spokane, 33 golf courses, 11 wineries, five ski resorts, five major national parks, the Columbia River gorge, and the Grand Coulee Dam. Spokane is home to annual events and attractions that draw people from the surrounding area. Every year in May, Spokane hosts the Lilac Festival, which features many events including the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade held the third Sunday of May. As mention, Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge is nearby. The Refuge is open year round from dawn until dusk and has many walking and biking paths to enjoy nature at it's best. But frankly you don't have to go there to enjoy God's creatures. From the property you will enjoy Osprey's, turkey vultures, geese, swans, cranes, hawks, mallard ducks, humming birds and even the occasional Bald Eagle or during the winter Golden Eagles. That's just naming a few of the 200 plus feathery friends you'll likley see. Deer, elk, and moose can be commonly seen. There is an abundance of other creatures but typically they are only heard not seen (coyotes). Go to the Turnbull Wildlife Website to find more info.
Spokane means 'Children of the Sun' in the local native language. Unlike Western Washington this part of the state is warm and dry during the summer. You can experience four full distinguished seasons in this part of the U.S. The area, is typified by a very warm, arid climate during the summer months and a cold, somewhat snowy, and moist climate in the winter. Because the area is surrounded by the mountains you can generally count on good weather during the summer months. Summer time during the day you can count on a dry heat with temps in the upper eighties, while at night cooling off to around sixty degrees. A high humidity is rare. Perfect for pitching a tent and sleeping outside. Lake temperature during the summer hovers between 75 -82 degrees, perfect for cooling off during the day, or moon light dip. The locals will tell you our favorite time of year is September and October. Rarely rains and the temperature remains warm enough for most outdoor activities. Winter we will receive typically a decent amount of snow and the lake freezes over usually by the first of the year. The most unpredictable time of year weather wise is spring. March through May you might get summer like conditions but most often this our wet season.
Water Craft Recreation
Small to mid size boats up to 22ft are the ideal size for this lake. If you have a raft, canoe, kayak, row boat, small sail boat, modest fishing boat or the tricked out luxury ski boat you'll find this lake will give you hours and hours of enjoyment. We do provide a paddle boat for your pleasure. This lake offers fantastic water recreation. Williams Lake is annually rated one of the best trout fishing lakes in the region, even if you don't have a boat we have caught our limits off our dock more often than not. Please note that neither resort on Williams Lake no longer offers gasoline for your boat. We do offer several 5 gallon gas cans for your use, and when I'm able I will go to town to fill them up to save you the trip.
Public access to launch your boat is open from dawn to dusk (Need Discovery Pass) or you can pay a $5.00 fee at the local resorts.
Columbia Plateau Bike Trail

This home was our parents retirement home. Our father passed on a few years ago. We three kids and our mother decided we wanted to share our home with you, so you too may make lasting memories and so we could maintain the property and make improvements each year.
Our father eyed this piece of land for several years. He dreamed of building his retirement home on it. In 1987 around opening day of fishing season his dream came true. Two years later our parents built their dream home. Dad would have been satisfied with a double wide trailer, you have mom to thank for the chalet. LOL. The house is perched on a solid piece of rock. As anyone who has been to or stayed at our place will tell you, you'll be hard pressed to find a better location on the lake. Your view looks straight down the lake and you are just a couple minutes walk from the Resort during the summer months.
Williams Lake is generally regarded as one of the best trout lakes in all of Washington. Best time to fish is from opening day to mid-June. Once the water warms up to around 80 degrees fishing is still good, but the skiers and wakeboarders start to take over. The greatest benefit about Williams Lake is the lake is 80-85% surrounded by cliffs. So the natural beauty hasn't changed much in the last 100 years. Plus the lake is never over-populated. Even on the weekends you never feel you arrived at the zoo, and during the week days you feel the lake is almost completely yours. We are entering into our 4th year of renting our home and we have thoroughly been overjoyed with our guest responses. At this point, most of our guest have stayed with us several times. Some will be back for their 5th time in just 4 years. Every year we try to improve our guest experience.
