Great location

The apartment is in the Uptown neighborhood, great location, on the bus line that takes you to Canal street and only 2 blocks from the trolly. A grocery store 2 blocks away plus many good eateries are nearby. It was comfortable and plenty of room for 4 adults. The courtyard was nice for sitting outside having morning coffee or in the evening after a long day of sightseeing. The only improvement I could see, would be new beds, not to comfortable..Would recommend the apartment if you want a quiet location.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to review our Guest Quarters. We will take into serious consideration your comments about the beds. We want the most comfortable home for our guests and strive to make you think you are at home. We have one of the best locations in the city for guests who want the New Orleans experience but a quiet getaway as well. Hope to see you again!

ANOTHER Great Stay in Nawlins!

We stayed in this rental last fall for a wedding and had so much fun we came back again! This unit is located in Uptown which is a great, respected and very safe area of the city. It is so convenient to so much...the street car line, the Garden District and of course the all important Bourbon Street. The owner is very meticulous and pays attention to so many little details. We even had coffee and tea waiting for us on our arrival! I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is wanting to experience New Orleans.

Just Right!

We stayed in this apartment for three days, and loved it. The hostess was thoroughly charming, and helpful with any questions we had about getting around, or where to eat and hear good music. She offered us a map of the area, and we visited nearly every location she thought would interest us.

We enjoyed staying with our freinds in the same place, rather than having several expensive hotel rooms, with no shared spaces, and when we were ready to shut our doors and sleep, we were not interrupted by those who stayed up. the kitchen is ready to rock, and although we only made coffee here in the mornings, we were happy that the microwave and the refrigerator let us make the most of all the to-go plates we brought out of the amazing restaurants. ( we highly recommend the breakfast croissants and beignets from Roberts, on the corner...)

Thanks for your wonderful hospitality, and the pleasure of sharing your beautiful home.

We Shall Return!

My wife and I rented this place for the second week of October, and it was excellent! It had all the amenities that we needed, and was clean and up-to-date. It’s a stone’s throw from the St. Charles streetcar, which we certainly made use of. We were able to catch it in the mornings for our walks in Audubon park, and also for traveling down to the French Quarter for “adult refreshments” and supper. The gourmet market a few blocks down had everything we needed, including a great selection of wines and a gourmet food bar. We ate well! The owner is very helpful. She made sure that our every need was met, and the neighbors were very friendly and helpful with ideas for great non-tourist places to go. We’re definitely coming back, same time next year!

Great Time in Nawlins

My daughter and I went to Nawlins for a wedding in the French Quarter. We wanted to stay in a reasonably priced place that had separate bedrooms for each of us without having to pay French Quarter prices. Yvette's unit met the bill. We absolutely loved it. It was spacious, clean and nicely outfitted. She even had coffee in the freezer for us! She went out of her way to make sure our stay was pleasant and even called us to make sure we arrived safely. Thank you so much for the wonderful accomodations. I am already trying to figure out how and when we can return. We did so much while we were there but there is still so much left to do. What a great city. Laissez les bon temps rollez!

Not as advertised

1 of 5
Submitted: October 8, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
What a let down, firstly the lead photo in the description is not the apartment you are renting. The apartment you get is down a grubby alleyway to the side of the property.Advertised with a garden, this is the same alleyway which consists of a stretch of broken up concrete. The 8 garden chairs consisted of two garden chairs outside, and two fold up fishing type chairs which were most uncomfortable, these were stored inside. The barbeque was non existent after we came prepared with meat etc and fuel for a bbq.We rang yvette as we arrived to inform her of our disappointment, she didn't answer.Luxury bedding was chinese polyester sheets and a brinylon bedspread on all beds. What a let down.I asked for recompense this request was ignored.
Owner's Response: Sankofa Guest Quarters has been in existence since January of this year. This is the first complaint we have had from any of our more than 20 guests since our debut. We patiently explained to this particular guest that a garden apartment means that it is on the first level of a home. We also explained that New Orleans is a tropical city, and right before they came there had been a tropical storm, which caused mild damage to the outside of the property. Our neighbor graciously stacked up our garden chairs to avoid them being swept away by the storm.

After the stay, this guest informed us that there was no grill and they had come to BBQ. We apologized for this and found it was missing. We ask all out guests to check in with us via our cell phone number to be sure that they are completely satisfied with the property, and that phone number is clearly marked in our welcome packet. We often travel on weekends, and are neither innkeepers, or baby sitters. Many of our guests would rather be left to their own devices, to explore the city, which is a need we honor.

Of course it is regrettable that the grill was missing for their stay, and had they contacted us via the correct number when they arrived, as we requested, we would have asked our neighbor to assist them and borrowed her grill, or we would have sent our cleaning team right away to remedy the situation. By the way, our neighbor said she never saw these guests during their stay. This woman has gone out of her way to accommodate visitors to her home town; giving directions, restaurant recommendations and even sharing meals from her own home.

400 thread count sheets are by no means considered Chinese polyester and there never was a complaint about the inside of the house until the writing of this review. We apologized several times for the outside of the house after a storm, but will not compensate to buy a good review as stated in the emails from our guest. It is unfair for us to have to pay for natural occurrences in our absence.

We are proud of our quest quarters, and plan to continue serving happy guests for years to come.

Yvette

Delightful!

We stayed in the apartment for New Year. It was so nice to be in a homelike arrangement within walking distance of so much. The house was sparkling clean and comfortable. The neighbors were really friendly and helpful! We walked or rode public transportation everywhere, and although we rented a car, only used it to get to and from the airport.

Thanks, Yvette. We'll definitely be back, maybe for our daughter's graduation this spring!
