House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Private 3000 square foot home, 3 bedroom and 3 baths with pool, makai of the highway, and behind the gates at Mauna Kea. Resort privileges and amenities (golf and tennis extra). Fantastic views of ocean, surf and coastline. See all 4 of the Kona volcanos and Haleakala across the channel. Sleeps up to eight in 3 bedrooms: master bedroom with king bed and private garden bath with spa tub; second bedroom with 2 queen beds, 3rd bedroom with convertible queen bed. High chair available.

The home was designed by William Bain in 1978. Bain was a cofounder or NBBJ architects, now the world's second largest architectural firm. NBBJ has designed many iconic buildings, including the Gates Foundation headquarters, Pauley Pavilion, and Staples Center, The home was extensively renovated in 2011, including new stainless steel appliances, but retains many original and irreplaceable features, including koa wood cabinets in the kitchen, koa wood sideboard in the dining room, koa wood bar in the living room, koa wood dresser in the master bedroom, and cedar ceilings in the 20 foot height living/dining room(s).

The home is one story and handicapped accessible. There is a single 3 inch step from the driveway to the house, no steps to the patio, and only a few steps to the pool. The master shower is open with only a very small lip.

Two minute drive or short walk to the Mauna Kea hotel and all resort amenities. Your stay includes pool, beach and gym privileges and member parking at both the Mauna Kea beach hotel and the Hapuna Beach Hotel (golf and tennis extra). Get up early for a walk on the beach or workout in the Mauna Kea gym overlooking the ocean. Return home for a quiet breakfast on the lanai overlooking the coast. Spend the day golfing or lounging on the beach and then retire to your private home for a fantastic sunset, drinks from the living room bar, dinner on the patio, and a swim in your private pool. After dinner, retire to the master suite for a quiet evening, enjoy the spacious living/dining area with friends or family, send the kids to the third bedroom to play a video game (or play yourself), or venture out to the resort or nearby attractions. Its another day in paradise.

Behind the gates at the resort. A brief walk to the beach or a two minute drive with priority parking at either the Mauna Kea or Hapuna hotels. You will have guest privileges at both hotels, including beach, pool, and gym privileges.

For my son and his family, their first trip to Hawaii was the "trip of a lifetime", and this house certainly helped make that a reality. The house was easy to find, clean, and very comfortable for the five of us. It was well appointed, with our every need anticipated, down to a picnic basket and modern, top-of-the-line appliances in the kitchen and outside grill. The view from the lanai was spectacular with sunsets and whale sightings an everyday occurrence. The pool was very well-maintained, the lanai/pool furniture comfortable and plentiful as was all the other furniture inside the house. The instructions given by the owners were timely, complete, and accurate. Having access to the Mauna Kea parking facilities, beach amenities, and everything else the hotel offered was a much appreciated bonus, and the hotel staff there is always friendly and accommodating. Everything was as pictured and as promised, and the owners very easy to work with. They were helpful and succeeded in every way to ensure we had no worries and no difficulties throughout our stay. We all, without reservation, highly recommend this property and this location.

Amazing, beautiful private home

We are a family of five who enjoyed a relaxing week at this gorgeous private home. Owners were extremely helpful and accomodating. House was very private, my teenagers loved the pool after spending time at the beach. We enjoyed watching daily sun sets from the patio. The house was well stocked with dishes, glass ware, pots/pans, and silverware. Housekeeper was very nice and helpful.We had an amazing vacation and plan to return soon. My one suggestion is for the owners to be explicit regarding check in and check out time.

beautiful, comfortable home with wonderful attention to details

we are a family of five including three children ages 3 thru 9. we have rented five properties in the mauna kea/prince area and this was by far the best. The home is very well maintained, the pool is good sized for the area and teh description and photos were very much representative. Everything we thought would be nice to have was provided and the owner's couldn't have been more helpful - even arranging to stock the kitchen ahead of our arrival. And the house-manager is wonderfully helpful. We look forward to returning.

Convenient Mauna Kea Home

We just spent a week here with my two boys (ages 9 and 12). The home is comfortable and very convenient for using the Mauna Kea facilities. The property was as described and the owners were VERY helpful when we were planning our trip. Frankly we spent most of the time at the Mauna Kea hotel either playing tennis or at the beach. The house comes with full access to the hotel facilities. A huge benefit. We had a great stay!
