Can't wait to get back here
We stayed in four apartments during our six week holiday in Europe, and this was by far our favorite - for location, vibe, homeliness, and the hospitality of its owner. We stayed for a week in late September. For starters, our plane into Rome was delayed, making our early evening arrival eventually a late night arrival. Nevertheless the owner's cousin, who was our meeting contact, promptly replied to our anxious texts with reassurance, and her husband who waited patiently for us at the apartment, expressed no complaints about our late arrival. In fact he was one of the most hospitable of all the apartment hosts we met, with a sense of humour and Roman charm. The apartment overlooks the main Piazza in Trastevere, which was lively to say the least. This meant the apartment's outlook was constantly engaging and ever-changing, with nuns, kids on their way to school, tourist groups, locals and buskers all passing by the window (including the wonderful woman, on accordian, that played for several hours many afternoons and early evenings) - all providing free entertainment. Although all this activity might put you off, you shouldn't be, as the windows are very sound proof - and we never had a bad night's sleep during our visit. On the contrary many of our best memories of Rome centre around the apartment, its views, and the Trastevere neighborhood - and that's saying something in a city with so many attractions. The apartment sleeps four and there is a good size dining room table, as well as a well equipped kitchen, to easily accommodate that number, which is not the case in other apartments which sleep a lot of people but are too tight really to accommodate that number in other ways. We were a family of 2 adults and a teenager.
The apartment had a copy of "The Terroir's Guide Food - Wine - Rome" by David Downie, which we recommend as a reliable and informative guide to Roman food haunts. Locally we strongly recommend the pizzas at nearby FORNO LA RENELLA (via del Moro #15) and the coffee at I DOLCI DI CHECCO ER CARETTIERE (via Benedetta #7).
We cannot recommend this homely, stylish, and well-positioned apartment enough and we would gladly return tomorrow if we could. I hope this review doesn't mean its too booked out for us next time.
The welcoming six-pack of sparkling mineral water in the fridge was much appreciated after our delayed arrival late at night, and is just one example of the owner's welcoming touches and intention to make your stay wonderful.
