Home away from home...just better.
Was a little doubtful of the glowing reviews - couldn't be THAT good. Well, it was, and like a previous reviewer stated, pictures do not do it justice. It was a very roomy 2bd/2ba with a good sized kitchen and dining area. We did bring an aerobed for the 2 people w/o a bdrm. It was just easier than the couch. The towels were new and clean and the sheets were the same. Ralph and Cheryl do a good job of anticipating your needs, e.g., umbrellas, binoculars, everything kitchen, and extras for the beach, they've even thought of the dog's stay. Next time we wont need to pack so much and might include the dog!
Our trip ended with quite a rain storm and it was nice to sit out on the porch and watch it. We noticed that some of the other houses didn't offer cover. The lower deck was great for "after beach care" as there was a shower and hose for rinsing off. There was also a grill and a picnic table to eat "al fresco."
We tried both beach markets, but our vote went to the one west of the house. Seemed cheaper (not by much) and the pizza was much better. The last night we ate at Sassy Bass. It did not disappoint. But if you want to do your own shrimp boil, Billy's Seafood on the Bon Secour river is the ticket. It's a little bit of a drive, but well worth it.
We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay. In the morning we had dolphin "rush hour," in the afternoon, the Blue Angels practiced their maneuvers (can you hear the "Top Gun" soundtrack? we did) and in the evening we chased ghost crabs around the beach with flashlights. The house also has a small nest of sea turtle eggs just to the west of it.
I want to give extra points just for the fact that we were there during the July 4th week. Things were crazy when we would venture out. But back at the cottage, it was peaceful and clean and beautiful.
