5 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Detached Unit, Sleeps 12

Eagles Nest is just several hundred yards from the Yellowstone National Park boundary!

Built by Malcolm Forbes about 1970 as his get-away log cabin, Eagles Nest is on a mountain ridge at an altitude of 7800 feet. Its wrap-around deck and windows provide a million dollar view overlooking a portion of Yellowstone Park, the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountain Range, the upper Yellowstone River and Dome Mountain.

This cozy cabin offers the best of both worlds—incredible peace and seclusion and comfortable accommodations—for a truly relaxing stay. Enjoy the large fenced yard with its deck, shade trees, picnic table, BBQ grill and lawn furniture. You can spend hours sitting on the porch enjoying the view, reading by the fire, watching for wildlife, sketching the amazing scenery, identifying wildflowers and animal tracks, taking a nature hike, or climbing Electric Peak. You may see elk, deer, coyotes, bald eagles moose, wolves, bears and other species that frequent the area.

It is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Be sure to bring binoculars!

This location is ideal for creative retreats on subjects such as management, yoga, or writing for up to 12 people.

Our cabin is the perfect place to relax and really get away from it all. The cabin features comfortable rustic furnishings. The living room boasts large picture windows with incredible views, a substantial stone fireplace, large dining table, and comfortable seating. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, dishwasher, range, all utensils, and condiments needed to create wonderful meals to be enjoyed inside or out.

Brand new washer and dryer are available. Cabin is equipped with brand new linens and towels, laundry powder, soap, shampoo, and conditioner. You should consider bringing warm clothes and ample food supplies recognizing that the nights can be cool at this elevation and the nearest stores being 40 minutes away.

It has easy access to Yellowstone Park, with its world famous geysers, bubbling paint pots, pastel painted canyon walls, which can be enjoyed at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and its famous Artist Point, the Boiling River Hot Springs close to Gardiner, and abundant wildlife including bears, wolves, coyotes, deer, elk, pronghorns, mountain goats, big horn sheep, eagles, etc.

It is a 35 minute scenic drive to the highway from the cabin on dirt and gravel roads with some steep grades (up to 15%), and 10 minutes from the highway to the North Entrance to Yellowstone Park. While the cabin has cell service with providers that serve the local area, much of the access route does not have cell service.

If the road is muddy from rain or snow, a 4WD/AWD vehicle is recommended. Low clearance vehicles are not recommended.

First Class Lodge For Outfitters

I just returned from our annual trip to Yellowstone Park; I own an outfitter company. Our group of anglers had the pleasure of staying at the Eagle's Nest Lodge right outside of Gardiner, Mt. The lodge was very well kept, the view was spectacular and the wildlife was abundant. After a long day fishing the lodge provided a welcome relaxation that included TV, movies, games and good conversation. The lodge had all the items that we expect from a first class lodge, laundry area, kitchen and outside deck. Also the price was very reasonable. I recommend Eagles Nest Lodge to anyone who is planning on visiting Yellowstone Park

Wonderful solitude with a awesome view

We spent a week at the cabin while we visited Yellowstone. The road was easily driveable with our KIA sportage - AWD vehicle. For a wilderness road its well maintained but its helpful to drive the road in the daylight - we arrived after dark and did just fine thanks to good directions and a map provided. It takes 30 minutes to drive the 10 miles to the main road. The cabin is well stocked which is good since you are a ways from town. The cabin is clean and well maintained with a new washer and dryer and dishwasher. We hiked up the Electric Peak trail that starts real close to the cabin. Its helpful to have an Electric Peak Quad Map. We didn't make it to the top due to a thunderstorm. The storm was severe enough to knock out power to the cabin. The owners were great to keep us informed about the progress in getting the power restored and had stocked the cabin with flashlights and a lantern which was helpful. We built a nice fire in the large fireplace and warmed up the cabin and had plenty of light until the power was restored.

We saw Elk every day near the cabin. We enjoyed walking the road and hiking the trails around the cabin. Its such a beautiful location. We only used the main cabin but the bunkhouse was a cute log cabin with two bedrooms and a bathroom. There is a lot of room for a family here. We never saw another person the whole week we were at the cabin. Peaceful, beautiful solitude with a view. We would stay here again.

Cabin on the mountaintop

We absolutely loved this charming log cabin on the mountaintop! The cabin was clean, well maintained and stocked, comfortable, and oh so private! As coastal people, we were initially a little intimidated by the dirt and gravel road up the mountain,. We quickly became at ease and treasured the nature and wildlife on our daily trips up and down the mountain. Our three generation family emjoyed exploring the wonders of Yellowstone Park, rafting the Yellowstone River, and hking. It was so special having adventures with our parents and young adults and relaxing, hanging out and enjoying the spectacular panoramic views of the Yellowstone River, the valley, and the mountains. Special thanks to Maricruz for going "above and beyond" to insure that this truly was one of the best vacations ever!

“Something you’d only see in a movie”.

The scenery on the way to the cabin is spectacular and diverse! Although, a four-wheel drive vehicle might have been a little more suited for the task, the two-wheel drive truck we used handled the beautiful drive with ease!

The very first “leg” of the trip up brings you through an incredible slot canyon that Kody and I describe as “something you’d only see in a movie”. The crystal clear stream that cuts its way through the canyon’s bottom had me wishing I was there to fish!

The second “leg” of the trip found us winding our way through a pristine forest with wildlife sightings! On our third trip up to the cabin we saw something I had yet to see in Montana… a black wolf! Wow! Wildlife sightings also included numerous deer, elk, and birds. Lower elevations provided sightings of pronghorn antelope and bison.

Our stay at Eagles Nest Cabin itself was wonderful! What a unique treat to enjoy leather furniture, internet service, tasteful western décor, cell phone reception, satellite television, and a well-stocked kitchen that never left us in search of a modern appliance, at a place so remote that the silence itself is deafening!
We are an outdoor oriented family. I have been blessed in my life with the experience of enjoying thousands of our country’s spectacular wilderness views, from remote Alaska to the Florida Keys and many places in between. The view afforded to the fortunate guest from the Eagle’s Nest Cabin’s deck… second to none! The Yellowstone River, from the cabin, is a silvery thread guiding your eyes on a visual tour of the, aptly named, Paradise Valley.

On this “tour” one witnesses the splendor of neighboring Yellowstone National Park from a very rare perspective. The backdrop of this “tour” I can only sum up properly by quoting Norman Maclean in his book “A River Runs Through It”, as he describes his Montana experience as a youth, “…there were more mountains in all directions than I had ever seen”. To experience this “tour”, while there, all that is required is to simply step outside.

It is my understanding that this cabin was built and used by Malcolm Forbes. As we spent our last evening lounging by the fireplace, I giggled to myself and envisioned Forbes, with his vast resources, instructing a team to go find him the most spectacular place in which to build a wilderness retreat. If my imagination has any hint of the truth… he found it.

Great Getaway

If you are looking for a place all your own, a vacation to get away from all the people... this is it! The cabin is very comfortable with everything stocked that you need. To be this close to Yellowstone Park and not have anyone around is unheard of. What a great way to spend time with family and enjoy the great outdoors. This would be a great base camp for your ascent up Electric Peak.

I highly recommend this vacation rental. There is nothing to compare it to in this area. This is truly a one of a kind property.

Great place for a family get-together!

It was a great place to celebrate my 84th birthday. My wife and my son were with me on this weekend trip. It was easy to find and very secluded high up in the mountains. The views were amazing. The cabin was very well supplied. We went hiking both Saturday and Sunday in beautiful September weather. The nights were clear so I could set up my telescope at night to watch the moon, stars and planets.
You need 4-wheel drive to get up there (especially if it's wet). It's the ultimate place if you want to spend time in the wilderness and be secluded from the world. Looking forward to come here again!

This was the comment of our 7-year old grandson upon arrival at the Eagles Nest and walking through the very well furnished cabin to the amazing "Eagle's View" of the Yellowstone River valley from the deck.

After a week here everyone in our three-generation family of 10 agreed with his exclamation.

We enjoyed the modern facilities, the always amazing views, long walks up the mountainside towards Electric Peak, the morning encounters with a large elk herd on our way down the mountain road to the highway for trips into Yellowstone. The mounain views on the 10-mile forest road up to the cabin are as beautiful as much of the National Park without the hordes of tourists. This truly is a special place and we all intend to return.

Thanks to Maricruz and everyone who obviously works hard to keep the cabin in first-class condition!

Amazaing place to stay!

Eagle's Nest is a unique, amazing place! We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the incredible views, and the proximity to Yellowstone Park and all of the adventures there. It is really cool that much of the view looking south from the cabin looks well into the Park. The accomodations are great and we had a big fire in the fireplace each night. Our departure was unforgettable: we just left the cabin, drving down the hill through thick fog, and gradually two huge buck mule deer come into view--it was almost mystical, and a very fitting conclusion to an awesome stay.
